I would like to see Chinese manufacturers implement a DNA20 mod for $60..... They have not been able to copy the ProVari or the Semovar with chips which are easier to fit into a tube mod than the DNA20 chip. I'm sure that at some point they will get around to it, but I don't think that it will be next year. I love my VV and VW mods, and would probably love to get the Futura DNA20 mod at some point as well.
However, I have not seen anyone create a VV/VW device and fit it into a tube of 2.36 inches (6 cm) long with an 18350 battery (size of a GP Paps v2.5)..... When they do, I'll buy that mod. In the mean time, I'll still continue to use mechs for this and all the other reasons stated by others :)

I have both mechs and vv/vw devices and both have their place in the vape world. I use my mechs most of the time as I use rebuildables most of the time and I think rebuildables perform better on mechs. I may just be in my head, but I think the modulation on vv/vw devices messes with the vape on a rebuildable, just my opinion.

they will never replace mechs but if in the future we see a DNA50 then probably make mechs more of a cult thing or a niche thing but I don't see that happening in the near future (4-6) years
I think the only thing that could replace mechs (with drippers) would be a DNA50 cigalike with a great battery life (we are at least a decade away but it's great to dream)

Why would I want to run a quad coil when I get the vape that I WANT from a single coil?

That's not the point here! some guys prefer a vv or vw device over a mech and that's ok, but the mechs are capable of handling 50watts or more so once an electronic can match that then mechs no longer are the only devices capable of doing it an thus making them a bit obsolete

50 watts would require ~14 amps, why would I want to drain my battery that fast?

My point is that there will never be a day that a mechanical can't fit the needs of many. Doesn't make any difference if they're chasing the extreme or not, the mechanical can still do it.

So an alternative .. yes, making the mechanical obsolete .. no.

i dont think its going to even come to electronics VS mechs.

when you go look at a mod it is usually one body with a couple color choices, if you want something that looks different chances are it may not have a comparable chip.
unless somehow manufacturers can suddenly offer 20 different bodies with the same chips mechs will always fill a purely aesthetic role.

I'm on a job site looking at the console in my truck. I see a provari with a kayfun lite sitting next to a nemesis with an rsst. I'm completely satisfied with both. I don't care if they make a DNA2000...I don't need it. I might buy it for fun but I don't think anything will come along and completely replace anything else. If that were possible, all the clearomizers and ego batteries would be collectors items.

I'm right there with you Asbestos - I have a MVP V1 and V2 with Vivi Novas and a K100 with an RSST at home... Both are viable mods and I love them both equally. if my clearos do become collectors items, I'll be sitting pretty ;)

    Vape on.

Interesting thread... In the near term, I don't expect to see any significant change nor any "break-thru" device knocking everything else out of the market. Not yet...

There's two core design elements in this realm that dictate majority of the function... portability, specifically the power source and the other core element is the heating coil. Both are very old technology... although with some modern refinements.

As long as the power source remains current technology batteries operating in the 3.2 - 4.2 volt range... then that will drive the electronics realm that can be applied. Find a different portable power source then the size and shape of the "mod" will have a different aspect to consider.

Current heating coils could be the bigger game changer... coiled resistance wire is pretty darned primitive as a heat source. Ceramics, infra-red or potentially laser based heating sources are some possibilities... Size matters... although I suspect so geeks are considering lasers given the proliferation of "light sabre" looking contraptions.

Once the power and heating sources change... then the game changes... which includes more robust electronics for control and safety. These dictate size and shape... the rest is mostly cosmetics.

I think that Mech mods just look cooler than what the DNA chips are being put into. Also sub ohm vapers want that .3 ohm .2 ohm vape. I know I have seen the DNA20 go as low as like .8 ohms. I am not good at soldering which mean I don't want to build my own DNA mod and the cost for one of these DNA mods is somewhat steep, although there are some cool looking box mods out there (i.e. the Nintendo controller DNA20 was pretty cool looking.)

There was once a man who supposedly said "640K of memory should be enough for anybody". That didn't last long. IMO in 4 - 6 years vaping technology as we know it today will be obsolete too.

The bicycle was going to render the Horse obsolete. The Motor-cycle was to render the bicycle obsolete. The automobile was to render the motor-cycle obsolete and so on and so on....Horses are still ridden as are bicycles and motorbikes....just my :2c:

All true David, but the automobile moves more people every day, by a huge margin, than the other alternatives you mentioned combined. Mechanical mods will never go away completely, but IMO they will lose market share fast and soon.
