I’ve been vaping for about a month now and have not smoked for 2 - 3 weeks. Recently and coinciding with when I switched to a eGo with boges from a super mini. I have had terrible dull background headaches that paracetamol does not alleviate. They settle down when I don’t vape but come back as soon as I have even one drag. I also get mouth ulcers and a dry sore throat if I have quite a lot in one sitting.

I have tried different strengths of nic and am currently vaping around 12 – 14mg. I found 8mg was a little better but had no flavour or throat hit and kind of felt like there was little point to it. I am also using mainly VG either 80 – 100 %. I have swapped from coffee to tea (not a massive drinker of either anyway) and I have a bottle of water with me nearly all the time and am drinking loads.

I am not a heavy vaper, I am only getting through 1 -2 ml of juice a day

Is there anything else I should try? could it still be cigarette withdrawal even after nearly 3 weeks? Should I take any vitamins or any other tricks to help? Does anyone have any advise or has had similar problem?

This is not something I want to give up on as it could be one of the best things that have ever happened to me and I loved it for the week I had where I had no headaches. I had a phone conversation with a GP but all they say is I need to switch to GUM (YUK!!!!!!!) and weadle my way off nicotine. They don’t understand I am not looking to quit and to be honest were no help to me at all!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Nick

I doubt it's withdrawl symptoms. It could very well be a reaction to one of the flavoring chemicals in your liquid or to the VG. Try a new all PG liquid maybe and try liquids from another vendor? If what you're vaping is Chinese, try USA made or a company that uses flavoring from another source (such as Vapor Station which uses flavoring from India). I know someone that can only vape from one or two companies. Everything else gives her terrible mouth/tongue swelling and sores. She can vape Vaporstation, EcoPure and Halo.

I had terrible heartburn/GERD for a year with an ulcer. I got rid of cartridges and it has almost all gone away. Seems that the vapor was carrying large droplets of condensation from the sides of the cartridges and it was irritating my throat and causing the GERD. Now I'm dripping or using cartos and it's much much better. If I get liquid in my mouth... BAM, heartburn.

Sometimes you need to do a bit of detective work to figure out where the problem is.

Good luck! Let us know how you progress.

I'd check blood pressure and maybe even visit a doctor about the headaches. Did you get headaches when you smoked cigarettes? Could be sinus issues, also.

Dry mouth can be a cause of irritation. PG juices are a little worse than VG. You might try a 50/50 mix just to see if there's a difference. Drink lots of water when vaping. Water is good for you anyway and it will help with dry mouth and throat irritation. Much of that goes away as you get used to vaping instead of smoking.

The thing is it obviously comes on when I start to vape, I may try a different method to boges and see if that helps. I have some 14mg RY3 arriving today and I will vape that flavour religiously over the next week and see if I still get problems. Everything ive read about smoking headaches after giving up says it only lasts a week so doubt that is it really. Still quite early days hopefully it will just go away in time.

Mouth ulcers - could be withdrawal or maybe you are using 100% PG juices. if you are using 100% PG juices, buy some juices with some VG in them. I use up to 50% VG in normal atomizers (some use up to 100% but I like more TH to come through), and I use up to 20% in cartomizers. Nicotine is a fairly potent skin irritant and PG lets through everything the best - flavor, TH, irritation.

Headache - Nicotine. 90% chance it is the nicotine. I never get headaches - my whole life of decades, never until vaping. When I vape too much within a time period, I get a headache in my right temple. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor. The most typical symptom of too much nic is headache. Other possible symptoms include rapid or irregular heartbeat, cold fingertips, hazy or yucky feeling. You have a choice - vape less or get lower nicotine juice. At home I leave my ecigs in another room so I have to get up and go vape there. If I left them next to me I would vape a lot more.

other less likely headache possibilities include - you bought auto batteries (buy manuals), the size of the end is larger than a cig and that bothers your jaw and face muscles (use a drip tip on a carto go get a smaller mouthpiece), dehydration (remember to drink fluids - vaping is drying), or anything that makes you drag too hard (using too-thick juice in cartos, using dirty atomizers, etc)
