Last year I started vaping/quit smoking. I would vape in the office. After a couple months, the boss saw me and told me "I don't think you can do that in here". At first I wanted to get defensive and fight the "ban". Then someone from the forums asked me, "Is it worth getting on the bad side of the management?"

Long story short, I took it outside. I discovered that part of my smoking ritual included the break from the desk, and vaping gives me the needed excuse to "be awol" for a bit. vaping in the "smoking area" has enlightened several smokers to the vaping world, and I have converted at least three people in the office to vaping instead of smoking. And best of all, when someone asks me if I'm going outside to smoke, I can muster up my best sarcastic voice and say, "No, I'm going outside to steam."

I think I won by losing the initial battle. Good luck on your decision.

Update- Meeting went pretty much how I thought it would go. I told them about the information I had, and tried my best to come across as educating them and not arguing. The supervisor said that even if there was one report of it being harmful that they have to take it into consideration. She said she would go over the rest of the paperwork and bring it up at the next supervisor meeting (which I doubt will actually happen). And for now there is no more vaping in work. I can't say that I didn't try...

I am sorry to hear that you were not given a fair shake, but since you are working in an LE environment, they interpreted your concerns as unimportant compared to the needs of the community that you are serving & should not interfere with the departments mission.

On another note, one of my managers has tried my ecig that I vape in the office, and has strongly hinted that her birthday is coming up and would really like one....go figure...

In my opinion, I would think let them think what they want to think... Blown out of proportion... let them be idiots. I vape outside or if I really don't feel like it, I go to the bathroom and sit on the toilet for a couple minutes... I don't think it is worth causing an argument, even if you win, people will think of you differently and your work environment will not be the same as you'll feel finger pointed win or lose...
