Ft had the black one now, eta 25 days though. It had just been listed today, look under new arrivals. Still had pic of Ss one, but description says black, and this had been confirmed.

Damn, I saw a second one listed today (yes, I check the new arrivals daily...), but didn't even notice that it was the black one... In da cart, waiting for a future (inevitable) order.

Well, I just ordered a stainless steel one... Been on the fence, but as my RTA interests are leaning more toward single coils, top fill, and small, this will sit nicely on either my COV Mini Volts or my eleaf Picos. I almost bought a grey Pico (already have the pink and the white is on the slow boat from China), but I've already got various colors of the silicone sleeves on the way, so I decided to buy this atty instead... Lord knows I don't need anything.

Enablers!!! :-x
You're gonna love it!

Regarding the upcoming black version, it might be worth waiting until it's been out and in use for a while before 'pulling the trigger'. IIRC the large Serpent had quality issues with its black finish.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

No, I think you are right. I recall there was connectivity problems or something of that nature with the black. Thanks so much for reminding us! ;)

That's correct. The first run of black ones did have some issues with certain surfaces being painted affecting conductivity in TC. I had one of the first black ones that had a matte finish before they changed to the gloss finish. Moving parts were a little stiffer but other than that I didn't have any problems. I've always had better luck with SS tanks as opposed to any painted finishes and that been my experience with many different tanks

I'm really wanting to try one of these even though the capacity is a major con for me. I watched a review that brought up the wire slots being difficult with anything smaller than 24g. I build standard coils with 26g SS. Can anyone advise whether they have issues with smaller wire? Also what about leaking?

I haven't used any gauges of wire smaller than 24g so I really can't say. However, instead of pinching your leads under the screws, I would try "sandwiching" the leads between grub screw and the post. I'm not sure if that makes complete sense. As far as leaking goes, still not a single drop after multiple builds and rewicks. Fluff and trim wick tails to a "V" and lay them all the way down the channels. Wicks fairly well and doesn't go through juice as fast with this method.

I've used 28g twisted wire from UD. It was a little bit challenging to catch the wire with the grub screw, I read about lifting the wire up then screwing down cos apparently the chimney doesn't leave a lot of clearance & you have to clip the wire really close to the post. It Vapes great though! I know you from the Serpent thread, hi! I know you love the 1st Serpent, there were issues with that one too but we all love it. No leaking, not having the jfc doesn't really seem to hinder anything. Just to be on the safe side I do close the afc & flip upside down then open just in case. I saw a vid about bring the wicking down to the bottom of the jf slots so that's what I did. I'm new to rayon so after a day or two it started seeping juice but very little.

That's what I did, sandwiched the leads.

Thanks for the feedback. I was and still am a huge advocate of the serpent. There's still some things I'd like to see changed but IMHO there is no finer single coil RTA out there. It's a shame there's not more options being made. Seems that everyone has jumped on the dual, quad, gigantic bailing wire coil rampage that needs 200w just to heat it up. Lol

I will second that! The original Serpent is the best open draw/direct to lung, single-coil, RTA that exists. It's not perfect, but the price point, flavor, airflow, and vapor production cannot be beat. Truly a DTL RTA lover and flavorchaser's dream!

Well I broke down and bought one tonight. If it's anything like the original I'm sure I'll love it. Gonna have to pick up some 24g wire I'm worried the 26g I have won't be thick enough for those slots.
