Merlin > Serpent Mini on all 3 of those categories IMO. I use the SM on a pico when out running errands (it has never leaked, weeped, seeped, etc) but once I am home (I work from home) the SM gets no use and I switch back to my Merlin and all my other bigger dual coil tanks that I have in rotation on my bigger mods.
vaping my Merlin right now and my SM is actually not even on a mod at the moment as I was out all day yesterday and opted to take my Cubis pro tanks for larger capacity and slower juice consumption so I wouldn't have to refill the tank while out.

I just bought pico + SM , and I think the default coil is very bad.
Does anyone here have a suggestion what coil I should used? someone says clapton, while others says ni80.
ps: my kanthal A1 24,26 awg, and Ni80 26awg is on the way.

Nice!!!Just got my Serpent Mini and used 24ga. SS to build a 2.5 ID 7 wrap contact coil. The coil reads 0.32 and vapes great!
I have a 30g over 26g Ni80 clapton in mine. 2.5mm 5 wraps 0.60ohm's and its pretty good. It is my first build in it and is good enough to keep going.Hi all,

Well, I just ordered a Serpent Mini to fit on my Pico. It's coming from GearBeast, so I have a bit of a wait. This will be my first rebuildable. What do you guys recommend for wire and wick for my first build? Are the coil tools helpful? I have been using 0.4-0.5 ohm coils on a Atlantis EVO and a Melo III. So, 26 gauge Kanthal or SS and cotton?
I make just plain ol' coils and use 28g Kanthal and cotton. I'm thinking of trying some stainless steel or NC wire and Rayon but I still have about 25' of Kanthal and a lot of cotton left..

I've tried Claptons and SS. Now i just roll up 24 GA Kanthal. Imho the most versatile of them all. I like to keep ohms between .3 and .9 in dual or single coil mode.

I use 24ga too. Just 3mm 5 Wraps 0.5 Ohm Spaced Coil. Best imo. 27.5 Watts [emoji1303]

24ga Kanthal, 3mm, 5 wraps, sounds easy-peasy enough to me. It seems like a good starting point. Thanks for the suggestions.
I just received one of these a few days ago. It's been great so far. First wicking, I laid the scissors on the outside, right up against the base, then snipped. It started tasting a bit dry-ish, so I rewicked. The second time, I laid the scissors down on the groove of the base. Has been perfect since then.
No leaks, great flavor, vapor production is much better than I thought it was going to be. My only complaint is the left-handed coil building. I'm sure after a few more tries it won't be so bad.
This thread was the one that pushed me over the top to try it out. I'm glad I did, and I wanted to give some feedback for anyone still on the fence. Great info here.

I think of it as a memory test..
I saw a video on Youtube where the guy said something like 'turn the wraps towards you instead of away from you', and that made it a bit easier for me to remember. Strange though, since 'clockwise/counter-clockwise' is a very easy thing for me to comprehend.Oh I must wholeheartedly agree with that!
Great Advice! I wick mine the exact same way and it really works! I also don't like the left handed coil build i always wrap clock-wise so its a little bit of a pain but you get used to it again i really like your postI think of it as a memory test..

Yes, I do. They should have angled the drip cup down some so it would flow back down into the deck/chamber IMO.
I don't have that problem. Is that caused by your juice popping and crackling and getting in there? I'm a low watt vapor, only 10.5w or less, if that makes any difference, and I don't have any popping and crackling.
Not sure if anyone has done this already, but fancied a tighter draw from my SM to improve flavour. I made a shim out of 26g wrapped round a 3mm bit and dropped it into the hole.
Amazing! even more flavour now, think 3mm suits the chamber size better.
If you try it, leave a bit sticking out at the top to stop it dropping in the hole too far and curl out a bit at the bottom to act as a spring tensioner against the bore.
