Hello- I currently smoke marlboro lights(1 pack per day)...I would like to slowly quit smoking and try the ecigs. I am totally confused about what to buy for my first purchase....also the best place to buy from.

I am looking for a good throat hit and an ecig that is almost like the real thing...if that is possible.

Where would be the best place to buy online and what should I buy for my first ecig??

Thanks so much!!!

Shani

A lot of beginners make the mistake of trying to get an e-cigarette that looks and feels like the real thing. The problem with that is the battery life typically sucks in those and are only good for eztremely light smokers (like 1-3 cigarettes a day smoker).Your best bet is to get en Ego twist and some clearomizers to start off with.

Clouds of vapor has some pretty decent prices on these and they are great guys to deal with.Give them a call an they will be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Whats the MaH on those volt batteries? Nevermind I just saw them listed at 450 MaH....unless youre a very light smoker I wouldnt recommend one.

How many packs a day or cigarettes do you smoke? That has a huge bearing on your choice of device.

I don't think that is entirely true. My cheap gas station rechargeable could never keep up with my vape pace (a former smoker of 1-1.5 packs a day). I was never able to get a full charge on it because I would charge it for a short time and then need it, and take it off to only vape for a few minutes. However, with 2 Halo G6's I was never without one as long as I always had one ready to go or on charge. I know I wasted some time and money by not just buying a mod right off the bat, but I think the cig-a-like is an important step for some people. I think there is something to having the look and feel of an analog in the very beginning.

It all depends really on how much you smoked....I was a two pack a day smoker and the constant charging and having to fill the cartos every time I turned around drove me crazy. In the end it was money wasted that I could have used to buy something that better suited me.

I was the same way and think a lot us were as well. And despite all the suggestions against doing so, I still wanted a look-a-like ecig. Well I soon found out why folks were making the suggesting to go to a ego style set up. However, I do not regret it all. It was just part of the journey I had to make to get me to where I am now. I was able to go thru the process and stay open minded, mostly because I was just so desperate to quit smoking.

Do what you gotta do. No one cares how you got here or what makes you stay. Were just happy ur here!

Welcome to ECF. Welcome to finding a way to kick the stinkies.

There's lots of options. Some use the super-mini (cig-like) batteries to quit. Many here start with those, get tired of charging little batteries all the time, and upgrade later. Some even start with "big batt" stuff (although that's probably a strange concept to you at this point).

You CAN do it any way you want. Also, you don't have to have only once solution. You don't have to think EITHER/OR.

So go ahead and start with the super-mini e-cigs if that's what you want. You many find later that you want something different. Or not. Or you could do BOTH.

The 808's are good. The Volt is commonly recommended. So are 510's, rather than 808s. A lot of the "screw on connections" for parts are 510 style. I'd check some reviews and see the vendor specific areas for the Volt. Plenty of youtube stuff for 510's.

Get several. Like 4 or more. They often don't last long. Get some atomizers and/or cartomizers. And get juice.

The juice costs are going to outstrip the battery costs fast. So...figure out how to order juice so you can fill blank cartomizers or whatever you use. The prefilled stuff gets expensive. If you're lucky enough to have means to purchase them long term...fine. Most get "blanks" and refill them to save $$. It also tastes better to use fresh juice that hasn't been sitting around in a carto, IMO.

Please take some time to read up and review. Do it your way. Sometimes it is a progression. E-cigs are picky and have a learning curve. It's not as easy as smoking, but it is still very approachable. Takes some trial and error. The best thing is to start with a kit (or two) and some juice samples and see how it goes. Stock up on blank cartos and juices that you found you like and start saving the $$. Use the savings to by better/more stuff later. Build up.

Good Luck!

Didnt mean to turn this thread into a debate over cigarette look-alikes.I see them as kind of a double edged sword. Its great that they open the doorway into vaping but I have to wonder if they dont turn just as many people away out of frustration and sometimes VERY overinflated prices.

Atty is correct, in the end it all boils down to finding the setup and the juices that work for YOU.Do as much research as you can and you'll be pretty well armed

I made a newbie mistake starting off with ecigs that look like the real thing, but threw that away and got an ego( best thing I did).

Well, yeah.... but it's not really "A Mistake". Most of us did that. Particularly us "old farts" that were around before the eGo craze hit. It's a progression. Some have to "go through the process". So don't feel bad. :)

eGo type units could turn some people off at the start. Just too...."foreign" or "strange" of a way to get nic. I'd rather see em start with cig-a-likes than stay with cigs.....

Agree with The "eGo" craze comment. Why buy an eGo that fires at 3.4 volts when for less $$ you can buy the Kgo that fires at 3.7+ volts. Have used both and have noticed the diff.

C'mon man that wasnt really necessary.Ive been reading at college level since third grade. It obvious that I missed that (due to lack of sleep) or because it wasn't there originally but I appreciate you being so kind as to point that out to me and everyone else. What a great guy!

I agree that some people really WANT the smaller form factor in the beginning,,,,,,,

I was one of them,,,,,,and it wasn't a waste. But I'll be honest,,,,charging every 3 hours sucked. And since these batteries can only be recharged about 300 times,,,,,,,the smaller the batt, the more charging, the SHORTER the ultimate life of the batt itself,,,,,,ESPECIALLY if you only buy 2,,,,one to use and one to charge,,,,

if you're going small,,,,,,,get several,,,,,,like 4 or more,,,,,,and 2 or more chargers. I recommend the Volt 78mm size (it's a dollar extra than the 65mm size, but worth the dollar)

or get a larger battery like the Volt X2 to use at home (you can use it as a pass through to plug into the wall and vape at the same time too so that you don't use up your battery) and use the smaller ones (get two then) to use out of the house.

whatever you're comfortable with that gets you off smokes,,,,,,,,THAT'S the goal.

So many choices, so little time ... or so it seems. Guess a guy could just close their eyes and pick one. The reality is that there is no shortage of good choices, and plenty of good places to order one from.
All I can do is tell you what worked for me, YMMV. I started out with an eGo-T that I got from Electronicstix.com, but it only took me a short time to discover that there were better choices than the "T" atomizer & tank. The batteries were OK, but the "T" atomizers were a PITA. So I switched to low resistance cartomizers.

Now understand that some will prefer the Kgo because of the unregulated voltage, while others will like the consistency of the regulated voltage of the eGo, even tho' its a lower voltage. That's just personal preference, they both work and work well.

My suggestions are to get a battery that is large enough. We measure battery life in mAh (mili amp hours), and 650 mAh is as small as I would choose. Also get something that is 510 compatible, because that will give you the largest selection of things to try.

Most of all enjoy the ride, it's a good one.
