Just wondering, even though I smoked cigs for 23 years, I don't see myself dating someone who smokes cigs unless they are willing to switch to vaping. I really can't stand the smell of smoke anymore and now I can smell it intensely from my co-workers who still smoke and brother in law.

OMG I am glad my husband would date a smoker. He is a non-smoker/never smoker and I was a smoker. I am so thankful that my smoking didn't mean as much to him as my personality.

In answer to the question: It matters not. It is the person that I am dating and if you love someone, you love them warts and all. Look past the surface and that is what you seek.

wow this guy just has troll all over it

simple question, if you cannot post any real feedback, then don't

I just was curious about the ecf community on this subject because there are alot of people who won't date smokers and since we are all ex-smokers, wondering if our opinions have changed. I personally wouldn't because I don't like the smell nor want to breathe it in anymore and smoking in the house is a big no no for me even when I did smoke, I would go outside

Would you date someone who is a vape-snob? Just sayin'.

I consider my Father, a Never smoker who Hated people smoking(but not people), yet never turned a blind eye to my Mother who sadly smoked most of her life.

This is an easy one for me to answer. Yes, my wife still smokes, so yes.

Honestly, unless she is actively smoking, I don't really smell it. The draw to go back to smoking is non-existent, and she has other attributes that make getting past the smell of smoke a non-issue.

Then what about someone who is Vegan or vegetarian? Or Black, Asian or Latino? Where is the line being drawn for your prejudice?
Ouch ! That's a little harsh, no ? Why do you consider it prejudice if he/she would not date a smoker ? If he/she isn't comfortable around the smell of smoke, does it necessarily follow that a judgement has been made about the smoker.

This is why clarity of language is important.
"I wouldn't date a smoker because I can no longer stand the smell of smoke." Not necessarily a bigot.
"I wouldn't date a smoker because smoking is now disgusting, and anyone that does it is disgusting." That is a step down the path to ANTZville.

Agreed ! The op didn't make your latter statement though. As far as your ANTZville comment, the less i say the better :).

If you think it'd draw you back into smoking, probably not the best idea. Similar to people in recovery, if you're in AA or NA not a great idea to date someone actively drinking/using. If you're vaping for your health, might be something to think about I guess.

Very good question.

Like Robin, my husband never smoked and he never bugged me to quit. Just thrilled with my winning personality I guess. But it was kind of a different era. More people smoked.

I'm married (almost 30 years now to a woman who never smoked) so this is a strictly hypothetical answer, but:

Sure I would.

I was a smoker for 36 years. I never hated smoking, in fact, I enjoyed smoking, it's just that the side-effects were getting to me. I am a vaper now, but I am not a "reformed smoker". :D
