It's a question of distance. If the cotton is, say, more than 1/8-1/4" from the coil (don't know exactly) it isn't affected. When it was too close, and got singed, I just grabbed the torch and explained things to it.
has anyone used both the German silica and the XC-116/132? curious as to how they compare? I'm looking, like everyone else I'm looking for the best wicking material. I was about to try and find some German silica but now I don't know anymore...
yeah maybe I'll just tie the ends where I'll make the cut with some kanthal wires or something. I saw this post on another forum where he used nail clippers, heres the link Rewicking Kanger T3's with XC-116 braided ceramic wick doesnt look too bad from the looks of it using a nail clipper! (not sure if I'm allowed to post a link to another forum)
Not sure if this has been said before as I don't have the time to read every post but I've been torching my XC-116 before I cut it & it barely frays at all, works like a charm. I recently rebuilt my Kanger MT3S with the XC-116 & WOW, SO MUCH BETTER THAN SILICA!!! The vapor & flavor is quite surprising, tons of vapor & EXCELLENT flavor, so clean & fresh because the XC-116 doesn't burn. Ive heard people say they've tried the XC-116 on the Kanger T3 & they get a burnt taste, that is absolutely not the case with it in the MT3S, at least not for me, its about the best vape Ive had to date, I am still very much a newbie so that's not saying much but all I know is that I will NEVER buy/use silica again, the XC-116 is that good.
Glad to hear it! The xc-116 tends to fray regardless of torching. the xc-132 (some places call it 116 . . . .?) never frays. the 132 is 1/16 outside thickness. confuzing!
How thin do they make this sleeving? Thin enough to, say, remove the core and run a piece of resistance wire up the middle and twist the entire thing like a coil, then put cotton in the middle of the coil core?
Yes, I also am planning on trying xc-116. Being quite flexible it most likely will not work as vertical wick in RBAs like AGA-T2, RSST. Has anyone tried?
