I am officially a Grandmother now! Little Colton arrived at 12:41am last night weighing in at 5lbs 13oz and 19in. His feet are 3 inches long (they tell me most are closer to 2 in.) So maybe he will be like a puppy (the big paws) and be tall when he grows up. Mom and baby are fine. Dad got to deliver (help) his son and change the first diaper and gave first sponge bath.

I stayed up all night and could not sleep so slept all day. I am going to catch up here now.

Congratulations Shari, I was getting worried. I couldn't sleep the night my first granddaughter was born either, I was up all night delivering a litter of 13 bluetick Coonhound and 4 Miniature Schnauzer puppies.

So now we can officially call you grandma. :)

Of course, in true Shari fashion, I worried myself sick; been married to the bathroom since yesterday. DH did not wake me when son called with the news this afternoon.

Talked to son and dil. Dil says water broke 11:30am yesterday. At 10pm last night baby was still sideways and every time he tried to come out he got stuck and wet back where he was comfty. She would not let dr go fish him out. He finally decided to come out.

He has a head full of dark hair. Daddy is blonde hazel eyes and dil is blondish green eyes. I am blonde blue eyes. So we will wait and see what his turn out to be. High scores on apgar so even though 3 weeks early he is healthy; strong lungs, sleeping and breathing good. Breastfeeding well - good since that is hard for some babies in the beginning. Big feet and big hands with long fingers.

Since he was sideways so long he has a cone head off to one side. Normal and thank goodness it will not stay that way. All wrinkled of course. Daddy is very active in all parts of care, so modern times. Baby and daddy are staying in room with mommy. Going home tomorrow.

We are not going to Tacoma, WA to meet Colton until later this spring, when DH thinks he will be comfortable holding the baby. DH has Cerebral Palsy and is not confident with his fine motor skills and has no baby experience, ever. I would be there tomorrow, but it is better for all to wait. They will have their routines in place, baby will be a little more social, and I think it will be a better visit all the way around.

It took all I had to not call my son overnight and this morning. I finally got tired enough to fall asleep and slept hard and long. Of course was mad DH did not wake me when son called this afternoon. I called back and had to wait hours for the callback.

Very very happy all are fine, though pooped. So she is on maternity leave for next few months and daddy took vacation and time off for a whole month to be home with new baby. How very different than when I had my son 30 years ago. Men never did that. You could not get them to change a diaper or sometimes even hold a new baby. I am quite proud of my son and dil. They will be good parents.

I think dil told me she emailed me a picture. I have to go check and then someone help me to figure out how to post it here. I have aol for my email. She also wants me to install Skype on my computer so we can video talk. If I can figure out how to do that with her, then I will explain how we can do that here.

Could you imagine us all being able to talk to each other in person almost?

Congratulations, Grandma Shari!! Glad to know that mom and baby are well, and that you survived the long wait for baby Colton to arrive into the world.

Skype is great for keeping in touch in almost-person-to-person fashion. It's easy to install and set up, but best be sure to have a good webcam and microphone for your computer for the best communication.

I have Skype installed and keep in touch with my son, DIL and grandkids. We usually video-conference once a week, and I feel it's good to actually see my 2-1/2 year old twin grandkids as they grow.

Again, congrats!! And enjoy :)
