Shari hit it spot on.

Erised, be proud of yourself that you've cut down so much, that is a huge feat in and of itself. I'm thrilled being down to 5 or 6 a day from a pack to pack and a half a day. Just going to have to join the club in letting time do its thing. About a week ago I tried cutting off the cigs spur of the moment and ended up breaking down and buying a pack, smoked half a pack in a few hours

As for people thinking vaping is smoking let 'em. You know it isn't and some people just don't understand because what we exhale looks like smoke.

Keep up the good work!

*On a side note: I have noticed that I'm able to go fairly long time before I do DECIDE to have a cigarette. This afternoon I went all the way from 2:15 until about 8:30 and even then only had 1. Normally after dinner I'll have my usual 2. It's funny in a sense to me that when I'm driving if I want a cig I kind of have to force myself to get it and light up, even when I have a cig lit I have caught myself reaching for the ProVari...silly me :p

Wonderful to hear. Waiting over 6 hours is a great sign. :)

BBQ is the food of Texas, with Tex-Mex being close second. I'm thankful we have an awesome BBQ restaurant here in the city where I live. I'd love to try my hand at doing homemade barbecue (rub/sauce) but we don't have a smoker so I'll either pick up from the restaurant or the Tony Roma ribs from the grocery store even though they are a little pricey. All this talk about food is making me hungry, except for the tripe/squid/octopus/cow tongue...just sounds horrible.

BBQ    Drat! And I done had supper:(

When do you consider yourself a non-smoker?

    - When you TOTALLY don't smoke anymore for "X" amount of time?
    - When you're satisfied with your vaping/smoking ratio?
    - When you're down to some specific goal you set for yourself?

Reason I ask ... Even though I often have a couple of cigs a day I pretty much consider myself a non-smoker. Some day I may get back down to never having another cig again, then again I may not. It's a goal, but not one that I'm hung up on.

Is it wrong for someone that has a couple of cigs a day to consider themselves a non-smoker the same way that a social smoker considers themselves a non-smoker?

    Or, am I rationalizing?

For myself personally I would not consider myself a non smoker until I had not had even one for at least 6 months and I no longer wanted one. I know me too well and just how easily I could start up again. I am at one a day and definitely do not consider myself a non smoker yet.

:w00t: :w00t: SHARI!!! Way to go!

I know. I can't believe it. I won a 15ml bottle of Watermelon on Deejstuff contest thread. I only stayed up almost 24 hours to do it. But I had fun and I get to try watermelon. And a review will be coming, of course.

Thaya, it was getting near the end but there was a couple of flavors I thought of you. A couple of them were colas. So I kept guessing. No luck on the cola.

So we have to figure out who is holding contests for provaris and vamos and stuff. If I don't sleep, I might as well try to win contests.
I can stay awake with the best of them.

I totally get what you mean. Of course, I've been running into a lot of people that consider vaping still smoking -- sighhhh.

Hey, it's funny but not at the same time. My DH looks at it like I am still smoking. He has got himself convinced he is getting dizzy and lightheaded around me when I vape. It is really bad. He is convincing himself of this and no amount of talking can convince him otherwise so far. How do you get around that one?

Don't tell anybody, but yes. Once it got past 2pm it would have been worse for me to go to sleep than just stay up and hopefully sleep tonight. I told you I am screwed up with the sleep. Then I get over tired and then wake up again. It isn't fun. DH thinks I am nuts. I told him to leave me be as long as I am not smoking. I am one stubborn old lady.

OK, so I know I missed stuff I wanted to comment on...but this will be one long friggen posts if I did that (like it's not already). Dang the hens were busy today!! ;)

BTW, Thank you soooo much everyone for the lovely birthday wishes! So many pretty pics--you guys are great!

Bear is very greasy, heavy, and gamey.
Fresh Beef Tongue is slick & hard to hold on to:laugh:
Brain's & Rocky Mountain Oyster's are the worst!

    Except for the stomach stuff:facepalm:

Elk burger on the other hand is excellent!!!

We have a lot of elk meat around here, cuz we have a lot of elk, lol. I haven't had any that I liked. Have had ostrich not in a steak or patty--I don't even remember how it was done, but it was like in little tender strips and sooooo yummy!

LOL! Half that stuff isn't weird. Fish head soup? Common. Head cheese, luau (roast pig), octopus - eel - chinese, gizzards um. Fish eggs - caviar. Crawdaddys (sand veins and heads) baby lobsters (Red Lobster). Pickled pigs feets are slimey.

Now menudo and tripe? Nope. No way.

The only thing I would go for on this list is the pork. I tried caviar once and could never figure out why it's so high-class. Who wants to eat a miniature water baloon filled with salt water? When they pop in your mouth.....Ick.

I've had both lamb and pig pit-roasted, in the ground, covered with plant material (meaning the old-fashioned way) and there is NOTHING like it. Absolute heaven IMO.

My mom and dad used to eat pig's feet often when they were young and poor, and occasionally when I was growing up. Oh, and chicken necks and backs. That's another few items I just don't get. Really, why? Their answer was always, "because they're cheap".

When you walked in and smelled the spices you didn't get a clue. Something like that happened to dear hubby when I introduced him to sushi and I was a little too generous with his wasabi. I couldn't drive home fast enough for him! Poor dear. He loves the sushi now, just have to go easier on his wasabi than mine. It's the only real spicy thing I can tolerate.

Personally can't stand the stuff. Sushi's OK once in a while, but wasabi? No, thank you.

.....and straight out of left field comes our next guest :p....

Hey everyone, almost 20 pages to read through. Before I get to reading I want to give a mini review of Baja Burst that just arrived from Apollo.

Testing on my newly cleaned and dry burned phoenix v3 dripper, for my first impression, half of me thought, "Wow... What is that flavor?," the other half thought, "I know that flavor?!?," and my third half wondered, "how in the hell do I have three halves?"

Baja Burst has a strong citrus flavor mixed with alcohol. I can't quite nail it down but it reminds me of either a kamikaze or a Margarita with a lot of extra alcohol poured in. It has some serious throat hit, and the citric acid gives it a "Zing!" I'm not entirely sure if I like it or not yet, but it is very interesting. I'm going to let it steep for a bit and see how it matures.

    :?: :D

In the bathroom? What kind of question is that?? LOL

    :laugh::laugh::laugh:

Calamari? They aren't squishy. You can pick up a bag of sliced in the freezer. I love scampini. My brother almost got sucked in by a medium sized octopus growing up. He wanted to see it squirt ink. LOL! It turned bright red. Did you know they have fairly big beaks like parrot's? How about scallops / abolone? We used to see a divers buoy by the shelf and take the boat to hang out until they came up. Then asked them to get us some from the little crevices. I grew up on clams, the butter ones and the large gooey ducks / razor clams. Those were weird. Oh the one you'd hate the most? OYSTERS! I couldn't handle the green mush sacks. The little ones were ok cooked over a fire until they popped, but mom and dad would want us to go out skin diving and get them the big ones - they'd fill up a hot dog bun. We used to catch dungen s crab with bare hands. Just watch the way the reeds were going and flip them fast (see if they were male or female). I spent a lot of years shucking, cracking and jigging. It's a shame that's all gone now.

Ever eat sole or halibut? They are very ugly fish. That's ok. I won't eat sushi. I've fileted enough fish to know what lives between those flakes and I want those little wigglies cooked real well first. You do know that all flour, meal, grains, seed has bug eggs in it. A little extra protein that a 24 hour deep freeze won't take care of. Just the way it is.

Norweign food is a plate of white. Everything. My ex's parents were off the boat Norweigen. The first time I went over to my ex's, I noted an odd oder. Later I discovered they missed their potatoe liquor and had a still. Both sides of my family were German. My grandfather made head cheese in the basement. ewww. Even the english won't eat english food.

Funny. I won't get backyard chickens, because I know I'll never eat chicken again if I do. A friend had a pet pig. The movie Babe about crushed me. That's more of what I struggle with. Having neighbors with names like Yiako and Michakko taught me a single chicken breast can be sliced thin enough for a family of four, "need not greed". I love ethnic foods - except mexican. Hate meat and potatoes and anything fried. I make the best lasagne sauce in a wok. That's my weapon of choice. I just assumed I'd use a wok for extractions too.

My dad's not from the US, and so we had the opportunity to try/eat different stuff very early on, too. He worked in electronics and there was a high population of foreigners where he worked (Tektronix) and in the computer science field. Still are, I guess. Anyway, he was like a magnet for other foreign folks who were here, either immigrants or students here on visas, etc. We always had foreign guests at our house, bringing their native dishes and cultures into our house. I guess that's where I got my food adventure bug.

Tell him if he doesn't knock it off you're going back to smoking! Seriously though-- I have no idea. I come from a family of total non-smokers, and if my Mom were standing a football field's length from me and saw me light up she'd start coughing and hacking as if she were going to die. And yet I saw her plenty of times standing next to a total stranger that was blowing smoke all over her, and she would be just fine. It just seems to be a losing battle when it's all in their head.

I'm still getting the non-supportive "when you quit your sticks then you'll know what it feels like to quit smoking" spiel from my carpool partner, and a request to roll the window down "because I can smell the nicotine" even though I smoked Newports in the car with her and no complaints. OH, and that's vanilla you're smelling, nicotine has no scent. Grrrr.

She's old and opinionated, so I bite my tongue and vape on.

Erised, I consider the label "non-smoker" to be something that society will impose upon you, so why do you want to impose it on yourself? You are unique. If you are rationalizing, so be it, you have to make you happy! I'm proud of all of us, even if we only lit ONE LESS today than we lit yesterday. This is HUGE!! When you are satisfied that's all that counts.

I had a cool thing happen. A radical non-smoking friend of mine ("quit like I did decades ago") has come around to understand the value of harm reduction, agrees with it and knows vaping is different and better than smoking. This is kind of important because she's a doctor, proffessor and gets involved in the public health system. YEAH!

Several months ago, I stupidly was so excited about getting a new mod that I went to show it off and vaped a huge plume right in front of her. Not the most considerate move on my part. I thought she was going to get hysterical. I said, "It's not smoke, no nic, no smell". TG life went on. I've seen her several times since and at first her reaction was "Your still smoking." as in, "that's not going to work". The next time I explained how I've cut down, counting what I don't smoke, etc. I've even vaped in front of her and she was completely calm about it.

Well today it seems like she's looked into it, or has had conversations about it, or something. She wanted to know why the FDA had a problem with vaping, BT & BP, money and we talked about the quality of studies, control group bias and she was in agreement. She said it wasn't the first time FDA took sides with corporations. She was a lot more informed about things that didn't come from me. I think the message is getting out there.

I gotta ask, what is a swedish fish?

Sweedish fish are a gummi-like candy that comes in 3 flavors. The "different" unique flavor is believed to be lingonberry. They are shaped like a salted herring (popular you guessed it) in Swedon. The candy is good, the flavor is familiar but different. I've never tried a vaped version of it, but my grocery store carries them in the candy isle with the boxed candies.

I'm not a gummy person either so that's good news. That's why I was so surprised that I liked Unicorn's Blood - it's like a clean tasting Hawaiian Punch. Ewww to drink. Yum to vape. Whodathunk it?

I hadn't really thought about it, but maybe I should go to that Vapefest in Vegas.
    Hmmmm...

Unicorn Blood sounds pretty good. Who makes that flavor?

Vapefest question... do they have one every year in Vegas? I won't be moving until after it's over.

I got one from there today too! I ordered two of the cutest little stealth vapes!

I need to find a non-girly stealth vaping machine.

When do you consider yourself a non-smoker?

Insurance companies consider you a smoker if you've used any tobacco product in the last 12 months. Personally I would consider myself an ex-smoker, or a non-smoker after 3-6 months. I am a smoker still because I smoke 3-5 cigarettes a day. Compare that to the 40 I was smoking a day, and it's a huge deal. My mother brought that up recently... how much I've cut down.

So we have to figure out who is holding contests for provaris and vamos and stuff. If I don't sleep, I might as well try to win contests.
I can stay awake with the best of them.

Me too, I have to take medication to sleep. Which is why I spend days awake usually because I, a) don't feel like sleeping, b) have a lot to do, or c) Need to stay awake for a specific reason like job, appointment etc. When I do sleep, I'm out...usually for a while. Between the 2 of us we could attack any contest like that. lol

Last but not least, Happy Birthday Alisa.

Gee, Erised, that's real encouraging. lol

I understand exactly what you are saying and I am glad you get what I said. And he can be as stubborn as me so this will prove to be interesting. I think after a while he will realise there is no harm and he is not being affected at all. It's just something new and strange and he does not like change. This will pass. It is just infuriating in the meantime.

I would ask him if he thought someone using the patch, or gum, or lozenges was still smoking. It's exactly the same thing just a more pleasant delivery system. There are people who haven't smoked in years who still use those things. Maybe ask an insurance agent since they ask now when you renew your homeowners policy.

I wasn't aware there were other flavors than red? I've seen knock-off gas station ones that had a yellow and green I think in it, but the ones I am familiar with and buy are the yellow and blue bag that says "Swedish Fish" on it lol. Another candy I've been meaning to get and always forget about is Jujy Fruits or however they spell it. Been ages since I had that.

There are yellow (pineapple) and green (lemon/lime) sweedish fish, there was a purple (grape) flavor for a while but they discontinued it.

I have not tried those things in the 20 years we are together so it would mean nothing to him. His family are not smokers either so there's no real frame of reference, except for the guys he play pool with on his league at the bar. And I would not want him to lump me in with them anyways..

Since he never smoked in his life, his only real frame of reference is me. I hear him brag how long it's been since I had a cigarette. Part of it is I think he just likes pulling my chain sometimes. Next time he pulls the dizzy and lightheaded thing, I think I may try insisting I take him to the ER. Let's see how well that goes over. I still have a few tricks up my sleeve. Maybe I will start counting his beers.

I just prefer no drama. We don't fight, I think he gets lonely because I am out in the sunroom vaping and talking on here and not sitting watching inane TV shows with him in the evening. So I will schedule more time with him so he doesn't feel neglected. I think he is afraid I am getting addicted to the vaping and he doesn't understand it. He is afraid it will be as bad as the cigarettes. It just needs time for him to see I am starting to feel a little better.
