Excellent post. I agree wholeheartedly. I was being too harsh maybe in my comments. I just know what it is like to be all proud of your accomplishment and then have it knocked down instead of being supported. I was kinda trying to buck her up for that.

I'm still getting the non-supportive "when you quit your sticks then you'll know what it feels like to quit smoking" spiel from my carpool partner, and a request to roll the window down "because I can smell the nicotine" even though I smoked Newports in the car with her and no complaints. OH, and that's vanilla you're smelling, nicotine has no scent. Grrrr.

She's old and opinionated, so I bite my tongue and vape on.

Erised, I consider the label "non-smoker" to be something that society will impose upon you, so why do you want to impose it on yourself? You are unique. If you are rationalizing, so be it, you have to make you happy! I'm proud of all of us, even if we only lit ONE LESS today than we lit yesterday. This is HUGE!! When you are satisfied that's all that counts.

I have a suggestion!
I think you answered your own question.

Hey, it's funny but not at the same time. My DH looks at it like I am still smoking. He has got himself convinced he is getting dizzy and lightheaded around me when I vape. It is really bad. He is convincing himself of this and no amount of talking can convince him otherwise so far. How do you get around that one?

Don't tell anybody, but yes. Once it got past 2pm it would have been worse for me to go to sleep than just stay up and hopefully sleep tonight. I told you I am screwed up with the sleep. Then I get over tired and then wake up again. It isn't fun. DH thinks I am nuts. I told him to leave me be as long as I am not smoking. I am one stubborn old lady.

That's good to hear. And remember it is a lot harder to turn a cruise ship than an 18ft ski boat. We need thousands more like her and that will only come with time. Look how long it took for the truth about the harm of cigarettes to come out.

I had a cool thing happen. A radical non-smoking friend of mine ("quit like I did decades ago") has come around to understand the value of harm reduction, agrees with it and knows vaping is different and better than smoking. This is kind of important because she's a doctor, proffessor and gets involved in the public health system. YEAH!

Several months ago, I stupidly was so excited about getting a new mod that I went to show it off and vaped a huge plume right in front of her. Not the most considerate move on my part. I thought she was going to get hysterical. I said, "It's not smoke, no nic, no smell". TG life went on. I've seen her several times since and at first her reaction was "Your still smoking." as in, "that's not going to work". The next time I explained how I've cut down, counting what I don't smoke, etc. I've even vaped in front of her and she was completely calm about it.

Well today it seems like she's looked into it, or has had conversations about it, or something. She wanted to know why the FDA had a problem with vaping, BT & BP, money and we talked about the quality of studies, control group bias and she was in agreement. She said it wasn't the first time FDA took sides with corporations. She was a lot more informed about things that didn't come from me. I think the message is getting out there.

 :vapor:

This thread surely goes all over the place, I love it :D

There are yellow (pineapple) and green (lemon/lime) sweedish fish, there was a purple (grape) flavor for a while but they discontinued it.
 Why do you think we love it so much??? hahaha:lol:
Since he never smoked in his life, his only real frame of reference is me. I hear him brag how long it's been since I had a cigarette. Part of it is I think he just likes pulling my chain sometimes. Next time he pulls the dizzy and lightheaded thing, I think I may try insisting I take him to the ER. Let's see how well that goes over. I still have a few tricks up my sleeve. Maybe I will start counting his beers.
    .

    hahaha!

Erised, this is a pretty straight forward answer.

To a doctor or someone who never smoked or a total nonsmoker, you will be considered a smoker. They do not care if you only have one puff a week. They will call you a smoker.

When I cut back on my 2 pad down to 4 or 5 a day while trying to take the Chantix, I was at my doctor's office and he was quite upset that I was having any cigarettes. He gave me a bad time, too. Not one word on how well I was doing in stepping down on the smoking. Same thing with DH who never smoked and a few other "friends" who either did not smoke or quit years ago.

You can call yourself a non smoker to yourself, but I am giving you fair warning some others will not see it that way. Only saying this so you don't get yourself upset if and when it happens. We love you here and your progress is amazing. You may wake up one day and forget to have your daily cigarette or two. If that happens, great. If you still smoke a little, that is so much better than where you were. Just my 2 cents.

Shari, I thought yours was an excellent answer! Yes, according to my health insurance I will be a "smoker" until I give up even vaping for 6 continuous months. Even though I haven't inhaled burning tobacco for weeks now. So, screw em!!

I think this is a question that were going to see more and more of, with insurance charging more and more employers hiring non-smokers only.

There was a post at ECF from someone who vaped only for 2 months for some physical. They said they were a non-smoker and passed. The doctor said the amount of nic in their system was equal to someone who lived with a smoker (passive smoke). They were classified as a non-smoker.

I know for me, it's important to think of myself as a non-smoker just to get rid of those dangling habits. That's been a challenge when I've felt like an outcast for so long because I smoke. It's part of the identity after 40 years.

Did you say she was a smoker too?
If so, you might want to remember she's a dying breed.
Most of the other things I thought of probably would not have preserved the friendship.

Well, she's a reformed smoker, quit through the power of prayer and sheer guts, blah blah blah. She prays daily for me to be delivered from the urge to smoke. Ha, that's probably why I was finally able to quit!!!

Yeah, I love her, she was my Sunday School teacher when I was 10, we've been living a couple streets away from each other and working at the same office for years now, so we started sharing gas costs and carpooling about 3 years ago. Lemme tell ya, it's annoying as hell!!

Unicorn Blood sounds pretty good. Who makes that flavor?
Vapefest question... do they have one every year in Vegas? I won't be moving until after it's over.

Unicorn's Blood is from Fuzion Vapes (or vaper's) I've like most of their liquids, but Unicorn's Blood is a standout. They have good sample packs.

Idk if Vapefest is annual. I don't think so.

When I quit smoking for 6 months a few years ago, I really stopped even thinking about whether or not I was a smoker after around the 4th month. It just was not a question or issue that occurred to me ever after that point. Until I was driving to the hospital for surgery and lit a cigarette from the nerves or stress or whatever it was. Then I was a smoker again.

Hi to all you chatty people. ;)

I don't know when I would be able to call myself a non-smoker. I've been a smoker for so many years it's part of my mind set and how I see myself. I still can't imagine me being a non-smoker.

Sounds almost like carpooling with your mother. You can't properly vent, or you feel you shouldn't. Sounds like she can though.

Just checking to see if I can post from the tablet.
Hopefully I didn't sound too harsh on the smoking issue, but I was just speaking for myself. Thankfully that's not a question I've been asked by either Medicare or TriCare, one of the perks of being the widow of a service connected disabled veteran, the military provides my Medicare supplement.

Ding, Ding, Ding, give the lady a prize! It is exactly like disagreeing with your mom! It takes way more guts than I've got, I'll tell you. She's very strong willed, I have no spine. Yeah, a match made in . . . well, never mind!

Gah, 2 am and I'm still awake! Tomorrow will be no fun at all. Goodnight dear friends, sleep well!
