Most doctors think I am funny, realize I am smart and know I know my hubby and his illness all too well. Before I could get to the hospital yesterday the kidney doctors office was in changed his meds and took over. They also called for an update when I was there and at least twice more yesterday. I told Bill if the admitting doctor says a word tell him straight up I made the call. An unusual side effect of his cancer is that his sodium drops dangerously low. We keep catching it before he slips into a coma. I'm sure he will be discharged and begin chemo immediately. Saw his kidney Dr two weeks ago and he is convinced the petscan was wrong last time and the cancer is back. He is also sure that the 2 rounds of chemo was not enough. The oncologist coddles and the kidney Dr speaks the truth. The kidney Dr found the lung cancer originally. Sorry this is so long but partial answers generate more questions than give answers. His sister went to the hospital today to give me a break. Tomorrow I have an appointment with a shoulder surgeon as I fell several months ago and tore my rotator cuff. One step at a time. I came in last night to an empty house. 4 dogs shouldn't feel like an empty house. Every time he got sick in the past I had a house guest. Therefore I would appreciate prayers and pm s from my friends. They will make the silence less obvious. Just please don't expect a rapid reply. Incase your wondering I am smoking full time. This post isn't too long at all. I'm happy to hear that you are managing his healthcare the way you are, it is amazing just how much the caregiver learns about cancer treatment, I used to read the labs when they came in and understood them as I'm sure you do. We learn far more about all of this than anyone should have to. It's been 18 years since I was where you are so I'm sure a lot has changed and I know I have forgotten volumes.

Hang in there and know we care, are thinking about both of you and hoping for the best possible news.

I know when I try to catch up I have no idea what page to click on. Then there will be a string of replies to something or other that I really want to know what they're talking about but I can never find it. And by that time, another 2 or 3 pages have backed up on me. It's like Lucy and the candy factory episode...

I never took any hormones either after watching my mom go through surgeries to remove fibroid breast tumors, when my hot flashes started that was the only nasty thing they had begun to associate with HRT. I'm so happy I toughed it out because I am pretty sure that is what caused most of her other health problems and eventually her death at 63. I've not had any of the health problems she had, well except for the panic disorder. I think she started taking Premarin when I was about 10 and took them every day until she died.

you make me glad I don't have health insurance and can't see a doctor. I never take anything but Aleve for pain and aspirin to prevent a heart attack. I am supposed to take diabetes med but I don't have a Dr to prescribe it. maybe I am better off.

I have Medicare and Tri Care for life and I don't go to doctors either and I think I'm better off as well. I think I'm far better off to just deal with what happens at this point in my life than I would be taking pills to take care of the side effects of the other pills the doctor insists are necessary. I may change my mind at some point but for now this is what I am doing and what I think is best for me.

I know a lot of people don't agree with me, but I don't ask anyone to agree, I also don't say anyone who does things differently than I do is wrong either. We are all different and do what we think is right for us, as it should be.
