That never dawns on me. I always have my morning cigs. Every time I have totally stopped it has been after them.

Thank you for all the understanding, support, and encouragement. You are right in that I feel pressured to quit and to vape full time. I know my breathing is suffering, my husband (a lifetime non-smoker) would like me to quit, and I also know it would help my pets (4 cats 1 dog) if I quit.

My husband knew I smoked when we met but he would really prefer if I could quit or greatly cut down. In fact he knew I wanted to try a different type of e-cig so he bought the kit for me. My first kit was an eGo-C which I still keep filled but don't use right now. About a month or so into vaping I realized that perhaps part of the issue was that the eGo-C has no resemblance to a cigarette so I thought maybe that was part of the problem. My second kit was for an eRoller (in white of course) which I do like better than the eGo-C.

I happened to get lucky in that the first e-liquid I purchased I like. In fact I prefer the taste of the liquid better than my cigarettes. Both are menthol. The e-liquid is a menthol tobacco 24mg. At first I had to dlute it as I was coughing a lot with the eGo-C which I later learned was my puffing technique not the e-liquid.

Thank you for making me feel welcome in this thread, I think I found a new place to hang out :)

    Good morning Bettysue.
For me I find that the cig-alikes just don't do the trick all by themselves, they leave me wanting. I do use them when I am out in public though because I prefer not to get noticed any more than necessary, that's just me I've spent most of my life trying to be invisible, lol.

One thing I do know though is you have to truly want to quit to be able to, you have to want to do it for you, not anyone else. That is where vaping comes in for me, I can give up the bad stuff without having to give up the parts I enjoy.

I think it is also very important to be ready to quit and you may just not be ready yet. I've tried many many times over the years and the only time it worked was when I was ready, some would say that time wasn't successful because I did start again, but I disagree there. I quit for 7 1/2 years and was truly over it, nothing made me want to smoke, I even got through my husband's cancer treatment and eventual death without wanting even 1. I'm pretty sure the reason I started again about a year after he died was a ridiculously stupid half hearted suicide attempt, in my mind if I smoked then I wouldn't live much longer and could stop suffering without him sooner. I know that is really stupid, but I wasn't in good shape mentally and it made sense to my completely irrational mind at the time. At that time I didn't want to continue living, I knew very few suicide attempts succeeded, most were a cry for help and I didn't want help I just wanted to stop hurting, I also knew that smoking could kill you, maybe slowly but.....well like I said it made sense at the time. lol

I don't know if it will work this time or not, but so far so good. :) With the support of all of the wonderful people here it just may. I am doing this now because I want to for me, simply because I want to breathe easier and that was getting difficult to do. In any case I really enjoy vaping and hopefully will be able to continue to do that for a long time. I do use menthol juice, but not as often anymore, I mostly vape the sweeter dessert or fruity vapes and the best thing about that for me is that I am not constantly nibbling on anything and gaining even more weight, in fact I have lost a few pounds. When the urges hit I do grab a menthol tobacco vape to help them pass, but the rest of the time I am vaping other flavors.

good morning everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need a big cup of coffee........and woke up thinking I might try to go without cigs today.....been 3 hours so far.....................lets see if I can do this

Good morning Karen. I wake up thinking that every day. :) and for the last two weeks have managed to actually do it.

Just take it minute by minute and don't feel bad if you give in and smoke one. Eventually the minutes between will be more and more and hopefully turn to days - weeks - months - years.
Just remember you haven't failed as long as you keep trying. It's only when you admit defeat that you've failed.

I do, they are little tyrants that have me trained. My baby Rambo, when he was a puppy I had taken him out, a huge pit bull comes running down the street picks him up in his mouth and starts to throw his head back and forth. I had just gotten out of the hospital with the beginning of my ills, but was still mostly walking. I kicked that dog so hard to get my Rambo Back. The poor dog was shocked and I walked away. The owner saw me do it and asked me why I kicked his dog so hard. I just gave him a look. I had pit bulls and they are wonderful dogs, if they live with the right family and they are trained properly. Apparently he didn't get that news bulletin.
Rambo hates big dogs now, but will protect me and his much smaller brother. By the way Rambo weighs all of 12 lbs and Rocky his brother around 4 lbs. In the house that 4 lb boy rules the roost. Outside he is smart enough to let his brother take care of things. They are adorable together and never fight. My babies.

Wow. I had the same thing happen. A stray pit mix went after Tootsie when we were out taking a walk. It was a nightmare. I kicked that dog so hard it's hard to believe he didn't have internal injuries and he never looked at me. Never broke his gaze. 2 people tried to run him over and he still wouldn't stop. The police got 6 calls. Finally some guy came out of nowhere and stopped him. He said it was a choke hold? Grabbed him under the neck and the dog stopped on a dime. SUPER people friendly and acted like he was a good boy. The guy said he knew the hold due to experience dog sledding in Alaska. Yea, and I have beach property in AZ to sell.

You can't convince me that dog wasn't trained to go after small animals. The police told me if I had hurt a hair on the attacking dog, I'd be in a world of trouble. HUH? And that "dogs will be dogs" - "all dogs fight" BS! A few hours on the internet turned up lots of info about "gentlemanly dog fighting" that often involves police and firefighters. They don't fight to the death, but do use small animals for training. Crap and crap and crap. The animal control shelter frequently releases small dogs to them. But things are so bad there that even a healthy puppy only has 3 to 5 days before they are put down.

That was a nightmare. I felt like I needed to carry a gun. Looking at the skull of some of them, a baseball bat would do nothing. Pepper spray? They have to look at you first. I couldn't get him to do that or get close enough. I see stray pits all the time at night. I think people let them out. There's also a trend to get the meanest dog possible among gangster types, for protection and status. Yuck.

Go to any pound and it's kennel after kennel of pits and pit mixes. So sad. I am terrified of them. Won't go near one.

I made it through yesterday without one, thanks for all of your support. I recall reading somewhere, sorry I don't have the bibliography, that people's relationship to cigarettes is like a really good friend, they are always there for you and they always make you feel better immediately. Somehow you have to convince yourself that it is not a healthy relationship. Get mad at them and hate them, they will be fine, and then they can move on killing other people, which I will try to intervene where I can. Compare it to other unhealthy relationships, a woman gets her .... (why isnt there a smiley of a donkey) beat by her drunk husband, and the next day sits with him at coffee and pretends like nothing happened. People cough in their sleep, have CPAP machines and need oxygen at relatively young ages, cigarettes are not good. As soon as I figure out how to have the counter I will, but i am cigarette free since July 27.

The sad thing is that before I had to stop working, my office was very slow for business and we were all bored. My boss, same age and like minded, told me her dream was to rescue dogs from kill shelters. That dream became our reality within a week, I called three shelters and had 4 pregnant Pits and a huge retriever. All gave birth, we kept the puppies till 8 weeks adopted out to people that we actually interviewed for an hour each. We made them give permission for visits, and all adoptions were successful. We kept doing it till I got sick. The office was a real pleasure to work in with all the puppies, the pits were wonderful with me,never had a problem. I truly believe that its who raises the animal and how they get trained. The retriever had heart-worm and was really sick, my boss adopted her

I think this is true for many.
Try to remember that nagging others to quit can do more harm than good, someone has to want to quit for themselves or it won't work, and someone nagging you to quit can make you smoke even more. Being supportive and understanding and showing a good example can go much farther.

To get a counter find one you like in someone's signature and click on it, most times that will take you to a place where you can set up your own. Most of them use GMT to count the hours and that can be tricky to get right, I think Colorado is GMT-7, I know eastern US time is GMT-5 but even using that has my time off by 2 or 3 hours sooooooooooo.

Congratulations on being smoke free. :)

For me to make a lifestyle change, I need to have a "mission". Something bigger than the thing I want to change. Usually it's health. I have quit several times for 6 months or more and I'd go running whenever I wanted to smoke. I can't do that anymore (knee injury) and I miss experiencing my breathing get better in such a direct way. But I can't let myself obsess over what I'm changing. I think it's similar to the fact I want a cig most when I run out of them, but when I get them, the craving goes away (sometimes). It's just the fact I don't have them that makes me want them. I have to find other things to focus on - easier said than done. Maybe I've never given up my baby blanket and cigs are a replacement. LOL!

I'm hoping some vendors that usually don't have sales are going to this weekend.

Review: Nitecore i2 charger ordered from Amazon. Not worth it. Cord is frayed at the plug, possible shorting. Overall cheaply made. I don't trust it. The Trustfire 001 2 bay charger is better made at half the cost.

This is gonna be sad, don't read it. It was my mom's funeral, July 27th, she was 59 years old. I keep reading these posts and wishing I had found them last year, or even 6 months ago. I don't know if it would have helped, but it would have been some nice bonding I guess. Instead of buying a box with several stinksticks that day, I bought the kit, the rest is history I guess. My wife and I had some friends over last night, our visitor has a new baby, and she just went back to smoking, so I was showing all the fun stuff I had been buying, liquids and tanks and whatnot. It is fun to call them juice, but I try not to. I'm gonna see if she want to to go vaporleaf with me this afternoon.
My wife has never smoked but is totally supportive, of course, cigarettes smell like hotgarbage.

That's too bad. That would be very rewarding. A friend of mine started a rescue last year called M.A.I.N. medical animals in need. They save dogs with medical issues and get vets around town to help. He's a real estate agent so he's got some experience with marketing. Publishes videos, their stories, keeps updating them, adds music and a donate button. Several have gone national. He's had people fly in to adopt a dog they've seen. He posted they saved 170 dogs in their first year. I'm proud of what he's done. The channel is on You Tube.

We've talked for awhile about putting some sort of a program together so that other rescues could do something similar with videos and marketing because it's not complicated and it works, very well. Nice ideaistic project, unfortunatley reality creeps in. I couldn't guarentee that I had the resources to dedicate to it. It's almost worse to start something like that and not be able to follow through than not start it at all. And I don't like pits in a very big way.

Yes it is sad and I'm very sorry you and she had to go through that. :(
On a positive note you turned that experience into something positive in your life and you should be congratulated for that.

The first time I quit I had been visiting my stepdad in the hospital and his roommate was in end stage lung cancer. After watching him and his family that was gathered around while he choked and gasped and struggled to breathe I made the decision. When I would really want one I would visualize that scene and that time it worked.

My boss used her own money at first, we ran a marketing company, so we used our resources to reach out to large companies. I have a friend that finds things (in the garbage, people get rid of useful things) we cleaned them up and resold them. LOL but it was so successful we opened a small thrift in the same building. I think that the garage sales and thrift store were fun and probably kept me working a bit longer than I would have, if I didn't care so much about the dogs.

I am in a very strange mood today and am reading threads in the general e smoking forum. I have been enjoying the new to cigarettes thread and happened on another thread about spitting cartos that left me in tears. The last post said (hopefully it is alright to do this) when a carto spits at you you must spit back or risk offending it. Those may not be the exact words but close. :)

Thanks Claudia, for taking up for me, against me!

I came here this am and announced that I had received 9000 likes.

Then I came back when my brain was in gear and realized I had GIVEN 9000 likes, and it will be many moons before I receive that many.

    Ah, knowledge is power!

'Tis better to give than to receive. You're obviously a very giving person. :)

It sounds like your hubby is being very supportive in your vaping journey. Do it at your own pace and don't quit quitting. Hang out with us as much as you can and/or want. It's a great bunch of supportive people here. I wouldn't be as far along in my progress without them! :vapor:

good morning everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need a big cup of coffee........and woke up thinking I might try to go without cigs today.....been 3 hours so far.....................lets see if I can do this

Yay, Karen! Keep up the good work. I'm proud of your efforts and any success you achieve.

Just take it minute by minute and don't feel bad if you give in and smoke one. Eventually the minutes between will be more and more and hopefully turn to days - weeks - months - years.
Just remember you haven't failed as long as you keep trying. It's only when you admit defeat that you've failed.

    +100. What he said. ^^^^^

still going, not been too bad, I have to eat soon, I should have eaten this morning but I wanted to avoid a trigger, I have to eat for lunch, diabetes will win out. Keeping my fingers crossed and vaping like a fiend:vapor::vapor::vapor::vapor::vapor::vapor::vapor::vapor::vapor::vapor::vapor::vapor::vapor::vapor:

I used to start reaching for my smokes as I was chewing my last bite of food so I could light up as soon as I swallowed it. I still get those twinges after I eat, so now I reach for my PV instead. It takes a little longer to satisfy, but it works. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your mom. She was awfully young. :( Congrats to you for using that as a motivation to better your health and on your success with vaping. :toast:
