I've been saying it all along, but the way this community reacts to product failures is an utter disgrace and going to hurt vaping. Viciously attacking victims in attempts to squash the notion there might be something wrong with a product rather than trying to figure out what went wrong and compel companies to fix it does nothing to correct the situation. It makes things worse, much worse.

You are absolutely correct.

when we see a mod that at most can carry 3 batteries, but can count at least 5, no spare battery case, and loose change... how do you think we will react? every time this does happen, we get a bad name, people get up in arms about the dangers.. when it's user error and not the fault of the device. yes, we are going to be defensive, angry, and point out they're trying for a Darwin award... because anyone who has a true interest in vaping should have learned some battery safety.

Being defensive and angry is just fine, it does not however give one the right to be insulting and cruel to another person's misfortune.

For what ever reason...a person has been seriously injured.

This is not something that is amusing, it is not something for insulting remarks.

Once again, we don't know if the loose batteries were the cause of the venting. From what I see, it's unlikely. Not everyone researches every product they buy on the internet. If you have no reason to believe that there's hidden dangers in the product that you're purchasing and if the retailer failed to give any warnings, it's not the fault of the user. What if the user was an elderly person who doesn't use the internet? You assume too much.

The lawyer said on tv this morning.......the government has just got to step in and do something..............so this does not happen to someone else.........LOL

Looking for big bucks from a law suit.........................
Good luck suing a Chinese vape manufacturer.

If the FBI can only chase huge sports apparel cloners from website to website (Shirtsus to Fansus to wherever they go next), it is highly unlikely some NYC ambulance chaser will successfully sue Jaybo, Releaux or whoever in China because some dude burned his leg.

Mod faulty? Bad battery? Atty short? Is the user a professional coil maker? etc. Too many variables for a successful suit.

Sucks because this makes all of us look bad.

Here's the thing; sometimes you HAVE to research stuff that you buy sometimes! An angle grinder can kill somebody if you don't use the right disc. A drill can remove a finger. So yes research is necessary for certain items.

Exactly.

How many companies that make those oil turkey fryers have been successfully sued because a drunk user didn't follow instructions and burned him/herself and their backyard.

Ok, likely lots. Bad example. ;)

Yeah, saw it on local news. Man Burned in Grand Central E-Cig Explosion: MTA

Pretty solid surveillance video in the store. And he already has a top notch lawyer representing him. Might be tough to collect on a Chinese clone or rewrapped battery should it turn out to be that. My bet, once again, mech, loose change, fire button held in. Only other item of note was one frame of the debris:

Looks like more than one battery and it's tough to tell what it was in.

Yeah it was on the local news here in Georgia (30062). Looked like lightning was trying to get out of his jeans.

I bet 40 dollars that is was a cheap or self built box mod and he didn't turn it off before putting it in his pocket! At least it vented and didn't just explode!

It takes just a few idiots to ban stuff for the rest of us smart (common sense) people!

You guys are just being silly. Yes tools can be dangerous. Yes hot oil can burn. We all know this. The batteries we put in our remotes, and thousands of other devices, don't generally blow up. People need to be educated that there's a difference with the batteries that we use in vaping. Why is this so hard to understand?

That's defiantly a Reuleaux I can tell by the door. Looks like HG2 batteries. I can see five of them, those other two were probably in his pocket.

Looks like an rx but if you look carefully you can see that there are more then 3 batts. So diid he have an unprotected extra batt in his pocket. The rx has multiple safty features so it would be hard to belive it was the mod that failed...looks like unsafe battery handling could have caused this...

There is a difference. Mods should have warnings and plenty of them do. EVERY SINGLE vape shop I've bought mods from has told me about battery safety. Most of the online retailers have warnings also. The RC car hobby deals with Lipo batteries that can easily blow up a house. Lipo batteries don't have warnings (the ones I've seen) and the RC cars don't either.

User error at the very least would be leaving the mod in his pocket and the button getting fired.
That looks to be an RX200 or something similar. It's a regulated mod, with an automatic cut off. I've "pocket fired" my mod once, or twice... The tank gets hot, and you DO notice it, but fireworks? No.
The mod's battery door doesn't look to be scorched/damaged, and there are more than the three batteries that go in the mod.
