I've noticed in many posts people talk about running their mods at 40 to 80 watts. I can't seem to get past 30 watts without choking. Am I missing something or doing something wrong? I have a topbox mini and a T-Priv with sub-ohm heads in both. I have juices at max vg, 70v/30p, 50/50 and 65p/35v with the same outcome. Is there something else I should be doing or am I just a weenie?

The delivery device makes a difference, if using a replaceable head type, the coils, wicking material & wicking holes used in the head & airflow make a difference.
Some newer delivery devices are geared towards high watt bro cloudz outrageous liquid consumption style of vaping. Actually they are a tremendously ineffeciant design.
RBA's can be built to take as little or as much wattage as one would like to use.

There is no reason to chase watts, higher watts does not automagically = better vape.

Simple rule of thumb. Every vaper is not the same as the next. This you see in the types of flavors that one person uses compared to another "peer", to the types of devices they prefer, to their nicotine strengths, to the PG/VG ratios they use, and also, the watts that they prefer or their body can "handle". Vaping isn't about keeping up with the Jone's next door, vaping is about keeping off the stinkies at a level or way unique to you. Many of my builds that do go over 60 to 80 watts, those are generally rebuildable dripping atomizers and I have designed and built the coil to withstand those wattage ranges, do you need to do high wattage vaping, simple answer is no, do what makes you and your body happy, if you want to go higher wattage then you need to look at higher output hardware.

If what you are vaping at and what wattage you are vaping at is making you happy and content without going back to the stinkies then that is alright, don't worry about all the 'Cloudz Brah' crowd bragging at how hot they are steam cooking their lungs.

I use 0.15ohms and Vape at 55 watts with my ijoy captain rta and 85 watts on my ijoy xl tank I don’t get massive clouds, I get some good clouds plus amazing flavour. If I vape lower I get a dull taste. Everyone has their way of vaping. It’s fluid, everyone can chose how to do it their self

I guess I should have mentioned that I'm still pretty new to vaping and thought I might be missing something to make the experience better. I really appreciate the replies but I didn't actually understand about half of them. I did get that I should do what works for me and don't worry about the rest. Sounds like good advice.

Extreme Dooty, to break it down for you, higher watts doesn't necessarily mean "better" vape. I vape a small MTL device at between 7--12 watts max. I like a cool vape, I like the fact that I'm not blowing vapor everywhere around me, for me the taste is better than a sub0hm device and insane clouds (started out on an Aspire Cleto, and almost nic poisoned m'self. It wasn't good.) Also, for me starting out I had to deal with detox from cigarettes, getting over very poor throat and lung health, and I personally prefer very restricted airflow and low power. TO COMPENSATE, I use higher nicotine in my vape, because I am using less vape during the course of a day. The "inefficiency" component comes in when you are vaping at such high wattage and low ohms that more vapor is produced that a person can absorb.... So if you see someone vaping at 100 watts with a sub0hm device, they are likely using MUCH less nicotine, and/or not absorbing all the nicotine they inhale, though it may be their preferred style of vape. My son used to vape high wattage and huge clouds and it satisfied *him* but he vaped quite a bit and produced huge clouds all the time. He used 3 mg nic e-juice while I use 15. He went through 250 ml of juice a month AT LEAST, and was charging batteries constantly.

The rule of thumb is, vape how you ENJOY, not some target wattage. If you are feeling happy, satisfied, and enjoying your vape there IS no magic number you have to get to in order to be satisfied, I quite often will vape BELOW a coil's "recommended" wattage if I desire. Also, each tank and mod are slightly different, for example I use a mod that outputs power very efficiently (I still haven't figured out why) so when I switched to that mod, I was lowering all my wattages. I like a cool, non-overwhelming vape, and I'm not even going to go into temperature control at this point, but (IMHO) keeping temps low by NOT running the coil "The highest I can possibly get it watts wise!" is probably a better option *as long as the vape satisfies you* and you aren't exceeding tolerances on your coil, your mod, your batteries, etc.

Heh. As a smoker I was a maximalist. As a vaper, I am a minimalist. I have no clue what that's about, but vaping isn't a competition unless you make it so.

Nothing against high watt and cloud producers, everyone should do what works *for them*.

30-35w is about the sweet spot for the Subtank Mini/Top Box Mini.
When the STM came out in 10/14, 40-60watt mods were the max available.
Kanger came out with the top fill "Top Tank" with a higher watt mod, but the tank design stayed the same. (small chamber, not a lot of juice flow for max VG.)
I still use the STM RBA built to about .8ohm, 25-35w

For the most part, I find different flavors seem to work better for me with different tanks and watts. And I change flavors several times each day. So.......

I start my day with my morning juices with an Atlantis and then subtank at around 30 - 32 watts. Throughout the rest of the day, I'll range from 50 - 75 watts with several different tanks and juices. Once in a while, like I happen to be enjoying now, I fire up a full TFV8 loaded with my Banana .... Right Cheek at about 115 watts just because I can. After smoking the same old cigs for over 40 years, I am taking full advantage of the flexibility vaping provides.........and I am loving it, clouds and all!

I use both MTL and DL setups. On the MTL rigs, I rarely go above 14w but I use a higher nic concentration. On my DL rigs I lower the nic to 3-6mg and go anywhere from 33-ish to 45-ish. It all depends on the tank and the liquid.

I recently bought a 100w mod just to push a couple of my tanks a bit harder than my single battery mods can, and I honestly get only marginally more flavor out of the geometrically larger cloudz (brah!).

I will say this, and maybe someone else will agree: It seems that the lungs full of lower nic vapor takes the place of the throat hit delivered by the higher nic stuff. And I just can't take 12+ liquid at above 20w without a coughing conniption.
