It wasn't any better back in the days before the internet when product reviews were written in printed magazines. The only thing that social media has changed is that individuals now have the same capacity to reach an audience... and you don't have a stack of magazines to take to recycling. :D

We need a YT reviewer reviewer.

LOL, except then the YT reviewer's would have to pay off the review reviewer's then people would post about "How can we trust the review reviewers?". So then we would need review reviewer reviewers and soon it would get to be like a real life version of the Dr. Seuss "Bee watchers of Hawtch-Hawtch".

“Oh, the jobs people work at! Out west near Hawtch-Hawtch there's a Hawtch-Hawtcher bee watcher, his job is to watch. Is to keep both his eyes on the lazy town bee, a bee that is watched will work harder you see. So he watched and he watched, but in spite of his watch that bee didn't work any harder not mawtch. So then somebody said "Our old bee-watching man just isn't bee watching as hard as he can, he ought to be watched by another Hawtch-Hawtcher! The thing that we need is a bee-watcher-watcher!". Well, the bee-watcher-watcher watched the bee-watcher. He didn't watch well so another Hawtch-Hawtcher had to come in as a watch-watcher-watcher! And now all the Hawtchers who live in Hawtch-Hawtch are watching on watch watcher watchering watch, watch watching the watcher who's watching that bee. You're not a Hawtch-Watcher you're lucky you see!”

As a newcomer to the vaping scene, I really am amazed by the wide variety of styles and approaches taken by different reviewers across the YouTube channels. It is often very difficult on the Internet to gauge people's true motives and agendas, and trying to sort out the PR/Influencing/Marketing dross from the genuine individuals who want to contribute an objective and unbiased opinion. This applies across the board, not just vaping reviewers but other commentators and channels etc.

The one channel I have found really useful is Vaping with Vic. He seems to have been around for a while, and doesn't seem particularly biased other than being totally committed to vaping. The sheer amount of kit he has reviewed is quite staggering, but the thing I like about him is not only is he down to earth, and is not afraid to look at the pro's and con's of kit, but you can learn so much about the many aspects of vaping from his channel. He also thoroughly tests all the kit over a week or so, rather than just unbox and do a walk through. He appears kosher to me.

As the old saying goes, on the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog. As with everything, your mileage may vary but what I've found is inevitably the truth comes out over time, and if you have a hidden agenda, it invariably comes out sooner or later.

This thread has been posted before. As I said in those threads, I only look at the Scottish guy's videos, Victor or something his name is. Most of the other ones are just annoying or obnoxious to listen to. Jai Haze being one them. He just rambles on and on about i like this, i like that etc. There is another Aussie chap I dont like.

Also I like the pink haired lady. She is nice looking and her reviews are short but effective.

I use them as a tool meaning, I watch to see what a product looks like in my hands, and listen to their pros and cons. Some get real technical which is useful as well. I also read this forum and am in a few FB groups which give their opinions. Doing that along with reading the reviews on vendor sites, it helps me make an informed purchase. Sometimes, I watch some for the entertainment value as I've been watching some for years and find them to be entertaining while being a good way to keep up on new vaping gear I probably wont buy anyway.

It's the same as buying anything else based on a review. Always be skeptical and cross check the information presented. Still, some reviewers are fun to watch. About the only real use of a YT video is to look at a few different wicking techniques on oddly designed rebuildables.

Oh and I do trust Mooch on battery testing now that he's active on YT.

The youtube folks are largely entertaining, but sometimes, the things they say during their reviews is worth listening to, especially when it's about minute details that are so important to me that they could ruin, or seal, a deal. Insofar, those youtube vids have already been useful to me.

I enjoy some of the personalities, but I never watch an entire one front to back. 100% of Phil's get pulled to the Thumbs up/down area, and he's someone I just like (as a person).

I'm finding it entertaining now, watching everyone do the pods, because it feels SO "2012" to me (for whatever reason). I also kind of think at least some of the value has gone down, because back when we watched to identify what was done well versus what wasn't. Today, for the most part, the gear is solid.

Obviously that's not a 100% statement (solid), but the Sucks:Good ratio has basically flipped (IMO). Still in all, it's fun to watch. I still also have a LOT of fun going back and watching some of the really old ones these days. Get off my lawn.

I used to like @Shawn Hoefer 's reviews but he appears to have abandoned us (other than posting in threads like these). ;)

@Walee - please do share (if you wouldn't mind, and aren't shy).

I like watching video reviews when I'm thinking about ordering something new. I take all with a grain of salt and compare opinions before I plunk down $50 for a new atomizer or much more for a mod. They all are making money off of recommendations and you know they get free stuff to keep or give away.

Watch enough reviews on a product and you'll get some sort of opinion to lead you into a buy or not buy decision. I've ordered a stack of the latest and greatest and always went back to my Kayfun V2. The DoggyStyle RTA is a keeper and that speaks volumes about its flavor and ease of filling and maintenance. I just wish they'd launch a 5ml 24mm version.

Thank you!

I hope I didnt offend him, I didnt mean all YT reviewers when i posted initially. Just the main ones who have become quite popular. Poor wording on my part!
All good @Lufty! No need for anybody to walk on eggshells posting. These are all valid perceptions here. I rarely choose to be offended. I simply thought it might be interesting to chime in since I have done a few reviews. I don't pretend to represent YouTube reviewers as I'm sure they all have different perspectives. I agree with you that DJ is the most worthwhile to watch. I particularly like the fact that he will throw a scope on a lot of mods. I get a lot of insight from the scope although I have to say we have differed in our results from time to time. No idea what that is all about, maybe production variation, maybe methodology. Regardless, the differences are not extensive. I don't believe he falsifies data.

It is my desire to return to reviewing outside of the forums, but life keeps interfering... Sigh...

I think a big reason you would have something differwnt then a reviewer is because when DJlsb gets something ghe company knows they are sending it to a reviewer and would send them a way above average quality model, whereas with you Walee would get the same retail version that all of us would see. It just adds to my reasoning that lesser known reviewers who buy their own products to review are the real deal and speak the truth!

While that is possible if the item was supplied direct from the manufacturer, but a lot of times, they are supplied by retailers. Although the reviewer can only review what he was given, so if the manufacturer does that, that would not be the fault of the reviewer.

That's not true at all, some of those are even more kiss-a:censored: than the bigger ones because they want the sweet deals and don't dare offend a manufacturer.
Then some of the bigger ones can afford to shine a bad light on a product, the manufacturers are the ones who want cheap advertising reaching a big audience, sometimes it even leads to the manufacturer changing something because of a less than great review from one of the bigger ones.

To try and make a general rule, ignoring the personalities of yters and what they actually individually say, is useless. I think most vapers are mature enough to decide if they want to believe a particular review or not.
That someone makes a living with reviewing doesn't by default exclude useful reviews.
Also, a subscription on youtube doesn't mean "I think all their reviews are 100% spot on" it can simply mean "hey I find that guy entertaining", so just the size of a channel doesn't reflect if people actually base their purchase on the reviews.

You'd have to go on a case by case basis, it's not as black and white as big vs small youtubers.

Personally, I don't even log in to YT much less subscribe to anything. The last thing I want is a bunch of "Come watch the new Video" spam emails.

Hey everyone! I was curious, so thought id make a post about this to discuss/find out people opinions.

What is everyones feelings on Youtube "reviewers?

They aren't celebrities like a lot of them act, why I only subscribe to 3 on YT (Nick, Dean, and Bogan.) I don't care much for the trash talk / drama queen click bait type. Keep that out of vaping. I stick with those that give our industry a positive image and whose opinion matter to me.
