I was looking up Christian songs on Youtube, and found a disturbing trend. Some not very nice people are posting videos with titles like "Awesome God - New Version" where they have the song but the video is full of God hating propaganda typed out. It is offensive, but it's not like I haven't seen offensive things on Youtube before. I don't want these videos to get more views, because a high view count will put them higher in the search results. But, I think the original artists of the songs should be informed of it. I am sure they do not want their "copyrighted" work to be used in such a manner. (I doubt they mind their songs being used for the lovely praise videos people make using their songs and nature images, bible verses, etc.)
I call the people who make the videos "not nice" and "God hating." I don't call them atheists. An atheist, by definition, is someone who does not believe in God and religion - from the Greek a: without or absence of, and theos: God. I mourn for them, but they have free will and can choose to not believe if they so wish.
Which brings me to a question that just boggles my mind. Let's use a silly example to illustrate. I don't believe in purple people eaters (other than in that cute song from the 50s.) Seeing as that I am positive they don't exist, I don't give them a second thought. They are not real, they can't affect me, and do not threaten me. Purple people eaters are truly a non-issue in my book. I don't like them, I don't hate them. I am completely ambivalent to the whole purple people eater topic. I don't go around telling other people they don't exist. I certainly don't invest hours of my time in making anti-purple people eater videos to post on Youtube. Not only would fighting something that doesn't exist be an unwise use of my time, but would be considered crazy, as in patho-psychologically crazy. Right?
They call us crazy for believing in "an invisible man in the sky" At least we are talking about something we believe exists. We're not talking about something we repeatedly state does not exist. Can you see how this question makes my head hurt?
Why do people who claim that God does not exist spend so much time and energy talking about Him? It is illogical. I think "atheists" should say what they mean and call themselves "anti-theists."
