Just got home, checked the mail, and found my new mini lavatube waiting for me. Or as GrimGreen calls it - the fun size

Got it off the classifieds here, so it also came with 3 carto tanks, drip tips, etc.

OK so I should tell you, I've never used a carto tank before.

No problem, plenty of helpful posts and videos. Here's how it went:

Open everything in a frenzy, scattering pieces and parts around

Swear loudly, using many hyphenated words

Gather parts, attempt to assemble mod

Realize you don't know which way the battery goes in

Realize sudden fear of exploding mod

Get on youtube, assemble mod

Realize you don't know how to fill a carto tank

Get on youtube, fill carto tank

Vape

Gag on burnt taste of new carto tank

Get back on youtube, watch video again. Watch video again

Realize that it takes more than 1-2 drops to soak filler in carto

Keep filling

Finish filling, install drip tip

Vape

Notice slight burnt taste, and bubbling/gurgling noise

Fiddle with settings on mini

Realize you don't know what the settings are or should be

Get on youtube

Fiddle with settings after watching multiple reviews for devices I don't own

Get kinks worked out

Vape

Come to ECF, make long post, end with cliches like "hits like a freight train" and "it's a fog machine" and "Spinal Tap used this for special effects"

So after all that, I think I have it about set up right. It does make a ton of vape.

And yes, I know I should have bought a provari.

I think I may have trashed it - it does great for a few minutes, then the burnt taste again. The only thing I can think is that the juice may be too thick for it to wick properly? It's 50-50 so I thought it would be OK

What's funny is I decided that the prepunched holes werent big enough, so grabbed the corkscrew on my swiss army knife and modified the holes. It IS a mod right?

While fiddling with that, managed to get mucho juice in the center air hole of the carto (when I was sliding the tank up to "mod" the holes) so now it's flooded

Looks like I'll be ordering some more cartos tomorrow. Now I just need to know what to order and from where. Looks like the ones that came with it are 510 XL/SR.

I think a combination of me being ham fisted with it and complete lack of know how have it just about fubar. Live and learn I guess.

50/50 liquid is pretty loose IMO. It shouldn't have a problem wicking. Lavatube is a great device. I had one for a week and sold it to get my provari :) with carto tanks, drip some into the carto and fill the tank. Take a quick puff to see if its wet or dry and if its still dry, just take a few puffs without firing it to pull the juice from the tank and continue process till its good.

Fill the carto tube just like you would if it wasn't going in a tank, use a syringe and fill from the bottom. And on the subject of cartos I stay away from dual coil carto, especially in tanks. Fast and hard vaping can leave to top coil dry and then it can caused the burned taste. I use Ikenvape for the most part but SmokTek work well too.

In the tank pull the carto down just far enough to slip the syringe needle past the top of the carto and fill the tank. Push the carto back up and enjoy.
