I seem to have a strange palette. I pick up artificial flavoring too easily.
I am allergic to most artificial sweeteners, and can taste them in almost anything if they are present.
Cilantro tastes like dish soap to me.
I like dark roasted coffee with cream and sugar.
I love bitter dark chocolate, especially with a touch of chili. Milk chocolate to me, tastes like sugary wax.
I don't like things too sweet.
I don't like most candies, but I do like Jolly ranchers which to me, have a 'clean' sweetness to them.

I love fruits, gelatos, bakery goods and puddings.
I adore cinnamon.

All of this said, I am having a hell of a time finding juice that tastes like it says it should. A juice I just picked up at the local B/M - supposed to be Blueberry? Just gave me a distinct hammy note. Hammy as in .. Pork.
When I was at the tasting bar last week, most of the flavors had really odd notes to me. I'm not really sure what to do, I've spent all the money I had for the week on juice that tastes really weird to me.

Are there others like me? I know that my palette is supposed to undergo some crazy transformation but if it has I can't really tell yet, other than I taste salt far more easily than I did before, and that is saying something, because I have always been salt/acid sensitive.

Any ideas? Recommendations? Commiserating?

All the flavors you described give me the same taste. Especially the cilantro. Milk chocolate burns my throat with a sugary wax taste. All strawberry flavors taste like Chapstick. All flavor west flavoring and tfa taste stale no matter what flavor it's supposed to be. I have tried to ignore the odd taste but I just end up dwelling on how weird they taste. I really like vg/water/ koolada it's a flavor without flavor.

vg/water/koolada, I am intrigued!

Edited to add: I think you might be right on the organics, I've been interested in Highbrow as well. Wondering if that will make a difference for me.

Have you tried steeping your juices?? Take the cap off over night, put back on, then shake like crazy. Store for a week or so, shaking every day/every other day. Can make a BIG difference in taste of juices.

Also, have you tried Velvet Cloud Vapor yet? Their Vanilla Custard is divine. Sour Skittles needs a little time to steep. I have heard Strawb-Gwab is also amazing.

Hope that helps.

I haven't tried velvet cloud yet, I'll take a look! I'll have to try steeping as well, the problem is that I might not be able to wait for them to develop and might just have to deal with the weird taste until next payday. I have only just gotten started and I don't have a good supply of different juices just yet.

@ckquatt Oh heck no, you aren't alone, there are lots of us! If you google about it you will come up with tons of results.

I don't have the cilantro or milk chocolate problem but I have had a very hard time finding liquid that tastes like it should. Nothing tastes right to me and I've been at this almost a year. I've steeped and not steeped, tried many different juice attachments to no avail. I have found a couple of liquids I really like but they don't seem to be all that popular so I'm pretty sure my taster is weird. I tried organic and it was probably the worst I've had. But, it also doesn't sound like we are having the same issue so they might work for you.

edit: And yes, the cilantro thing is real. It's something in our genetic makeup.

Cilantro = dish soap to me too. It's a genetic trait; my father, a former sous chef, thinks my mother and I are *crazy* because he doesn't have the gene.

You may also be a supertaster - also a genetic trait, but far more rare. I have a lot of the same preferences you do, but I'm not a supertaster, so it's a little easier to find juices I like. I have had really, really good luck with a company that doesn't get a lot of chatter here - D&D Vapor. Their prices are reasonable and for basic, one note flavors, I haven't found better - raspberry tastes like raspberry, brownie tastes like brownie, ice fire elixir is the cinnamon/koolada mix they advertise, etc.

Complex flavors that I like are much harder to find (I get nothing but apple out of D&D's apple fritter, for example). However, Nicoticket's Grandma's Cinnamon Danish and Creme Brulee are two of my reliable mainstays at a slightly higher price point.

Everyone's tastebuds are different, so the best advice I can give you is to order sample packs/small sized bottles from a handful of different companies till you find what you like. I've found a lot of companies have good flavors, but something in their base that makes *all* their juices taste off to me - so I saved quite a bit of money in the long run by trying a few juices from a handful of companies and immediately writing off the ones with that "weird base" issue. (For a few of those companies, it really hurt... they make good juice, it's just not for me!)

Hope that helps.

Like you, I posess this gene variant that makes cilantro taste like soap. Unlike you, I did not think I was the only one. You will find only fresh cilantro tastes that way, once cooked, no soap.

To some degree we all taste things differently. Unfortunately you got the short end of the stick.

I have seen juice that is supposed to taste like red hots, lots of cinnamon.

You might need to make your own juice with simple flavors. Most commercial juice contains several flavors to make them complex. You might be happier with a juice that only has a lime flavoring. Or a plain cinnamon. If you make it yourself you can also vary the strength of the flavor. Adding more or less will change the flavor along with the strength. In a complex juice there might be one small flavor that rouins the whole thing for you.

I make my own and right now my favorites are a blueberry with some pie crust and an apple with a touch of cinnamon. Just two flavors in each.

Maybe test if you're a supertaster. It's genetic just like cilantro tasting like soap.

I'm supposedly a 'supertaster' as are most of my family members (sister brought home strips from a class she took). I'm really sensitive to nut extract (haven't tried a nut liquid I liked) and it could be the reason why RY4 tastes so terrible to me. Strawberry liquids have a very off taste to me as well.

As far as cinnamon goes I'm pretty partial to Big Red from MadTownVape and am currently vaping Fire and Ice which is Big Red with slight menthol. It tastes just like the gum! The Kathy's lime flavor (just lime nothing else!) is also incredible from the same vendor as is the danish. You can request to have little/no sweetener in the liquid just send Dino an e-mail along with your order. Don't let the price fool you it's just not horribly marked up.

I can always taste sweetener - aspartame, sucralose. It makes it hard to find a good juice that I can vape!

I am also running into a problem where everything tastes bitter to me these days. No matter what flavor, what mix, I'm getting a bitter after taste.

I assume you've replaced your coil and wick? Residue buildup is very bitter and acrid tasting.

Yep, a couple of times. I think it's me though because I'm getting the bitter after taste with anything I eat or drink. Brushing my teeth is the only thing that makes it go away. Maybe it's my high VG juices leaving a coating?

I'm allergic to artificial sweeteners which is really an issue with just about everything, as they sneak sucralose into SO much stuff.

The good news is, my local vape shop has their own brand of Fireball which seems to be one of the only things I like, yesterday I took a chance on Five Pawns Perpetual Check, and -love- it, especially blended a little with a touch of the Fireball. SO good.

The woman at the vape shop thought my problem was that I likely needed single note juices but this seems to really debunk that theory.

Try having celiac disease and go grocery shopping. Put it this way 90% of all foods have some form of gluten in them (because its cheaper to use it than to use actual ingredients. Example store bought sausage vs home made).

I feel your pain :'(

This. Last weekend I had 2 tiny pieces of salami and because I forgot about the casing, spent the next two days being sick. It's not just food products though. A lot of beauty products have gluten in them (vitamin E replacement) for example everything from Bath and Body Works. Which makes me angry.

I'm having a hard time finding juice that tastes like what it's supposed to. I like really sweet things and so far all the sweet juices I've tried are not sweet at all and just taste like chemicals. I've only tried one that has a hint of sweetness.

Taste can be a tricky thing. So many things can alter our sense of taste.
Everything from what you recently ate or drank, the sensitivity of your tastebuds, even the dirty litter box three rooms away can affect taste.
A couple years ago I went through a few weeks of a bitter taste with everything I ate or drank. While talking to a chef friend of mine, he asked if I drank coffee, I said I did. He asked if id changed brands or types of coffee recently, again yes. I had been drinking this 25 dollar a pound coffee given to me by my brother.....for about three weeks. I stopped drinking the coffee, the bitter went away. Coffee has oils that can linger for hours.
Point is, who knows, maybe try to brush your teeth, wait awhile, drink some water, and try your juices.
