about an hour ago i got the most devastating news that has floored me, my lovely grandad in the uk has just passed away :cry:

Stevo Truly sorry to hear of the passing of your grandfather. Our teachings tell us that when someone passes, the body is returned to Mother Earth who has nourished it and now it will nourish Mother Earth. The Spirit is returned to Creator by a journey to the West and rises into the Mountains and into the clouds. Your Grandfather will always be there to guide you.

Made up a batch of 60/40 DIY RY4 (VG & PG) and used one of the stock 325x325 wicks... My Zen's now a fog machine :D

Does ENS plan on carrying 500 mesh? It's been suggested to me before..

Also, are there any benefits to not using an insulator? And what precautions should you take (with wick rolling)?

^if you've been doing gennies for a while, theres really no benefit to you using it, imo, it was put in there for the beginners to get an easy set-up, as you really dont have to oxidise your wick with the insulator in, but i doubt mike meant for us to be using them once we got the hang of it, esp. with how quickly they melt (mine all got tossed out once they melted to the wicks, i dont want to be inhaling that stuff anyways) i pushed my coils up away from them and sunk the insulator down into the atty deck, to hopefully act as a heat sink, but they still melted.

I order all my mesh and wire from the uk (besides a couple spools of ribbon wire which i got from germany), I ordered some 500 once from a couple US vendors, and it turned out to be 400. it would be nice though to have a decent US vendor like jason that I can trust, carry real 500 mesh.

Playing catch-up post happy hour so sorry if I miss anything:

Stevo, sorry for your loss bud. Memories are what last and help us persevere. Keep them up front and know your family here is supporting you!!

Re; sidewinder o rings, there should absolutely be three, two for the tank, top / bottom, and one above the threads to stop any leaking from condensation from the top cap.

Re: sanding the screws, IF you decide to sand, sand them until there is just a flat spot. The pic kibasl1ce (sorry, cant seem to keep up with names) posted is a replacement brass screw that is already flat. Zen screws do not need to be sanded completely flat. I personally prefer not to sand at all so they fire regardless of the angle you push the button at. I clean my switches once every few months if that and hey fire every time. Sometimes we over complicate this...

Finally, congrats to all who scored cOBalts, you're gonna love them!!

Yep, youll need a fatter wick, try it, youll see, you can go lower ohm and the wick will still keep up, which means more vapor :D try a fat wick, as fat as you can get it, with like ~5/6 wraps of 28awg, that will get you to about 1.2ohms, (imo dont go lower than that unless youve got an MNKE batt to set it up on) TONS of vapor. :D

Oh, and insulators are good regardless of how good a coil is. The ensure that no electricity runs through and grounds to the body. Even with proper oxidation, some electricity will still travel. Sometimes folks spend too much time focusing on brass "upgrades", etc then just let electricity leak right out by not insulating... I've several including myself have said it before, but the innards of a carto are a great solution. You can still run a thick wick and have the benefit of an insulator.

No i sanded those flat, then polished them, flat battery/round screw head - small contact area, flat surface on both sides - large contact area.

I think there is plenty of insulation that develops under the coil if you just pulse it properly while setting it up, but again... different strokes for different folks, everybody ends up liking something different eventually, once they find their own individual "sweet spot"

I've signed up for his Saturday workshop.
I thought about heckling from the back row, but he'd probably smack me.

Oh!
And Hey.... how ya been?

Hey Annie, been okay. Was away on vacation for two weeks, and then really busy catching up at work this week, so I haven't been here much. Yesterday and today was a heck of a long catch up! I'll be at Karen's table most of the time, so come look for us there.

I tried to sign up but I never heard back from Spike.. I guess I'm going to assume it's filled.
Still though, I hope I'll at least be able to sit down and talk to the guy for 5 minutes or so.

Don't know if Mike's workshop is filled, but if it is I know Spike was going to keep a "waiting" list for all of them in case there are any dropouts, so be sure to check with her when you get there. You ought to be able to get together with him sometime during the fest though, even so.

My friend Jason (who I converted) is taking your class. He got the last slot. :)

Oh oh, now I'm going to get nervous.

Didn't you post under a different name earlier? Maybe I'm losing it...?

I've found it to be hit or miss without an insulator.
I do use the cartos one, and sometimes I don't.

When I don't, sometimes I get a good wick/coil going with no shorts, harsh or burned hits, no dark juice.
Other times, it seems like no matter what I do, I still get the occasional dry hit and dark juice.
If I can't work it out, I'll pop in a carto insulator.

My red SW has only 2 o-rings. There wasn't one under the cap when I got it.
This one came straight from Mike. Not saying it was intentional, not saying it was an oversight, just that it doesn't have one.
Now and then I get a little moisture around the bottom of the cap, but not so much once a few tanks have been run through.
:shrugs: I'm just gonna leave it. Can't see any reason to "fix it" if it ain't broke.

Currently going tipless.... still haven't found the "perfect" tip for it yet.
