I got my Gun Metal Medius yesterday. At first, I thought there was a problem with it, because the battery moves up and down, It does not come in contact with the top cap and bottom cap. So you can shake it around and the battery shakes up and down. When you push in on the switch, it then raises the battery up, makes contact and there is no rattle while the switch is pressed in.
After reading on Zens website and some reviews i have come to learned, This is how it was designed. Which makes sense i guess? but i personally did not like it. I looked around to see what others were doing that did not like the way it is designed, I came across a few posts but nothing really that explained anything.
So i pop the bottom switch off and took off the brass contact screw, Behold there were 3 washers under the screw head. I removed all 3 washers ( i could get away with removing 2 but took all 3 off ) placed my 18490 back in there and there is a gap still but the gap is as thin as a coin and the battery issue was very minimal. So i had a 2 cent fuse laying around, I poped in the 2 cent fuse and BAM! Perfect! No more rattler at all! No gaps! Also, i am sure a simple spring added to the battery tube will take care of the battery movement if you find you dont like the way its designed.
Like i said and read, This is how he designed the new Z2s i guess, so that the battery isnt always in contact with the terminals. It makes sense and i am sure some people dont mind it but personally it annoyed me. So with a simple 1 minute fix and removing 3 washers, It is now PERFECT!
This thing hits damn good! The gun metal finish i was expecting to be a paint or something? but i dont think it is. Its a very nice and cool looking finish. Almost seems like they took they stainless steel and heated it in a oven for hours and it now has this smooth, matte ( yet shiney ) hard finish. Almost actually like a gun! I have never seen a finish like this before on any device.
The threading is a little on the rough side but some Nalox took care of that right away.
The tank portion is pretty much your typical Z-Atty but the top cap is held into place VERY tight. People always complain about how Z-Atty caps pop off or come loose to easy? Well i have the newest version of the ZAP and the ZAU, both caps are pretty tight, then dont pop off or move but the top cap on the Medius, WOW!!! I felt like i was going to break the glass on the tank when i first tried to take it off. I have since lubed up the O-Ring and top cap and its still is not going to move, slide or pop off. You need a really good amount of force to pop that cap off! I might actually sand down the O-ring just a hair to thin it out so that the cap actually comes off easier, lol.
The buttom is awesome! Nice and firm. I really was worried about the bottom button having no lock ring because i have a N-Zonic v3 and without locking the switch, its stands up but bounces all around and really isnt safe without locking it. Since the spring is nice and strong and the switch is built strong, The weight of the device ( with a battery and juice ) cannot push down on the switch AT ALL. Also the switch is just nice and solid feeling, So standing it up without being able to lock it is actually really nice! I was very worried about this and this was the main reason why i almost did not buy it. Honestly though? I actually like the way the Medius stands up unlocked then i do my N-Zonic!
Its just feels like a very well built and indestructible device! It doesn't feel like a feather or a cheap, flimsy aluminum device. Its some prety solid stainless steel and the finish just makes it seem even more indestructible..
My only issue at the current moment is the top cap being to hard to pop off ( though some may actually like this ) but thining out the o-ring really quick is sure to fix it. The battery/switch design some may like, I personally dont but i took care of that already and now i am in love. Hits like a power house! I almost thought i would need a kick but nope, it performs perfectly and pumps out clouds without a kick!
oh and this being my first hybrid ever.. The only downside i am finding is that i have no way to test the ohms on my builds with my ohm meter. I know i can use a multi meter but thats a PITA especially now that i am spoiled with my little ohm meter i use.
Here is a pic i took of mine.
