Due to the ever-changing economic situation and political decisions the vaping scene has also highly been disturbed world-wide, which is affecting the market’s productivity and had a huge impact on availability and delivery times. For us reviewers this translates into less frequent opportunities for content publications and it motivates the consumers for well-thought and more conscious decisions when it comes to looking for a new device. Geekvape Aegis Hero 5, which is a compact, durable pod mod that excels in performance (50W), e-liquid capacity (6.5ml), featuring a large battery (2000mAh) and a leak-resistant design ideal for daily use and on-the-go vaping for (R)DL vaping enthusiasts.
The Geekvape Aegis Hero 5 introduces several significant upgrades over previous versions like the H45 (Hero 2), focusing on increased power, battery life, e-liquid capacity, and added user-friendly features like a physical locking switch. Let’s dive into the characteristics of this indestructible super-Hero!
Design and functionality:
The Aegis Hero 5 follows the signature rugged aesthetic of the Geekvape Aegis series, with a durable metal C-frame bezel and a comfortable leather grip. Its compact, pocket-friendly size resembles a mini-Legend mod, and the build quality feels similarly premium in hand. It also features a bright 0.96-inch full-color display and a convenient physical A-Lock switch to prevent accidental firing.
This device offers both Variable Wattage and a Smart Mode that automatically detects the coil resistance to set the appropriate wattage, making it user-friendly for both beginners and experienced vapers. The top adjustable airflow system helps significantly with leak resistance.
The Geekvape Aegis Hero 5 is available in seven color options: Blaze Red, Steel Silver, Iron Black, Racing Green, Turbo Blue, Frost Mint and Pure White.
I received the device in Pure White which is notable simply for its sleek, modern aesthetic and stands out among the darker, more traditional Aegis color schemes in my view. The Pure White offers a modern, clean, crisp, and minimalist look that provides a sharp visual contrast to the dark screen; however, the downside is that it needs to be kept clean.
Functionality wise the device offers simplicity:
- 1 click fires instantly – there is no auto-draw fortunately
- 2 clicks let you select between three themes with three different animations
- 3 clicks brigs you to wattage adjustment that you can adjust in 1W increments
- 4 clicks allow you to deactivate the animation
- 5 clicks turn device ON/OFF
- 7 clicks clear the puff counter
Battery performance:
The integrated 2000mAh battery provides solid life, capable of lasting up to three days with moderate use, depending on the wattage used. It supports USB-C fast charging (5V/2A), and can reach a full charge in under an hour. The USB-C charging port is located at the bottom of the device. The bottom is fully covered by a qualitative silicone insert that provides stable hold and prevents any frictions on the surfaces.
Size and weight:
The Aegis Hero 5 is designed to be highly portable and pocket-friendly. Its dimensions are just 94.5 mm (height) x 45.5 mm (width) x 30.7 mm (depth). It has a light weight of 90 grams, making it easy to carry for on-the-go use. The device is built with durability in mind, as main characteristic of the Aegis series.
The main body and C-frame bezel are made from zinc-alloy for strength, complemented by a comfortable and premium-feeling faux leather grip for ergonomics and style. This construction contributes to its shock-resistant, sturdy hallmark.
To showcase how sleek the Geekvape Aegis Hero 5 is I made a comparison with my favorite Voopoo Drag M100 and the beloved Geekvape Digi Max R.
Pod:
The newly designed transparent pod boasts a generous 6.5mL e-liquid capacity, which is a significant upgrade from its predecessors and reduces the need for frequent refills. It's compatible with the widely available B Series coils ranging 0.2/0.3/0.4/0.6/0.8/1.2Ω, and the new "Boost Version" coils are claimed to last twice as long as the original versions, lasting for up to 40mL of e-liquid per coil, which I can attest. I have been using the Geekvape Aegis Hero 5 for the last 3 weeks as my main device and it produces still steady quality clouds with every single hit. Even more, I filled it with the good old Vampire Vape Heisenberg, which is known to produce always different flavors in varied settings; with the Aegis Hero 5 a prominent cherry flavor came to surface that I never tasted with other devices. The dense and tasty clouds that are being produced by the 0.4Ω coil at 30W are unique and master level in a pod mod range. I haven’t had the chance yet to try the spare 0.2Ω coil however I am looking forward to test it at the max 50W power with the peach 5000 from Chill Pill.
I love that the Geekvape Aegis Hero 5 comes with a standard 510 drip tip that you can freely replace with your favorite drip tip. Once removed, the original will become quite loose though.
Final verdict:
Ultimately, the Geekvape Aegis Hero 5’s exceptional quality lies in being a sleek, durable pod mod that maintains the high performance and durability the Aegis series is known for, offering a unique style choice within the rugged vape market. While at home I prefer to use a tank mod, for on-the-go I steadily grab one of my high-performance pod mods. Now that I have the Geekvape Aegis Hero 5 in the collection this little super-Hero became my first choice when leaving home.
My humbled observation is that the puff counter is not available on the main screen, after 7 clicks you will see the total count that you can reset from there. I need my glasses to be able to see the battery level on the tiny yet clear display. I don’t recall there was a Hero 3 or 4 marketed, nonetheless the model’s name is up to the manufacturers fantasy and the Hero 5 pairs so well with its big sibling the Legend 5, we can be fine with this numbering mystery.
