These tests below only note my personal opinion for the ESTIMATED ratings for the batteries I tested at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not genuine and in the original plastic wrap from a known and trusted manufacturer can change at any time! This can be one of the hazards of using “rewrapped” batteries or ones from smaller manufacturers so carefully research any battery you are considering using before purchasing.

Misusing or mishandling lithium-ion batteries can pose a SERIOUS RISK of property damage, personal injury, or even death. Never use them outside of a fully protected battery pack and you use them at your own risk. Never exceed the battery’s true continuous discharge rating (CDR), never let it get colder than 0°C or hotter than 60°C to help lower the risks and extend cell life, and keep the plastic wrap and top insulating ring in perfect condition. Never use a battery that is physically damaged in any way.

Testing batteries at their limits is dangerous and should never be attempted by anyone who has not thoroughly studied the dangers involved, understands the risks, has the proper equipment, and takes all appropriate safety precautions.

If the battery has only one current rating, or if it only says "max", then I have to assume the battery is rated at that current level for any type of discharge, including continuous.




Test Results
By a small amount this is the longest running 18650 I have tested, beating the Vapcell N40/N41 and SAFD 40ME at 1A-10A. I don’t think the differences will be noticeable in actual use so if the absolute longest run time is your top priority then test all of these cells in your actual application to see if one runs noticeably longer.

Some other info and thoughts…

• These were purchased from Convoy Light ( Amprius SA110 4000mAh 18650 lithium battery - Convoy flashlight ).
• There is no CCC*** logo or “CCC” on the cells I tested.
• Amprius has very confusing model numbers for this cell, with the datasheet listing “SA110” and the wrap showing “INR18650/40”. But the SA110 datasheet has wrap color and printing info that matches the INR18650/40 cells I tested so they appear to be SA110’s.
• I am assuming that these are actually Amprius SA110’s for now.
• The 12A current rating seems reasonable, with the cell reaching at bit lower than its 70°C limit when discharged down to 2.5V.
• Like all ultra-high capacity cells though the SA110 performs best at about 75% of its rating or lower, <=9A.
• Standard charge is 2A, max is 4A. Stay at 2A or lower to help extend cell life. Only charge cells between 0°C-45°C.
• The capacities for the two cells I tested were 4181mAh and 4165mAh, decent consistency and typical for China-manufactured cells. They both easily exceeded their 4000mAh nominal/typical rating.
• The DC IR’s were 20.40mOhm and 20.84mOhm, a low value (which is good) for an ultra-high capacity 18650.
• The lower IR cell of the two also had the higher capacity. This is because the lower IR reduces voltage sag and that allows the cell to run for a tiny bit longer before the low voltage cutoff is reached.
• Cycle life is listed as >=500 cycles at +2A/-4A to 2.75V for a drop to 80% of original capacity. The higher 2.75V cutoff for cycle life is not uncommon for ultra-high capacity cells.
• Datasheet weight = 48g, +/-2g. The heaviest cell I tested was 47.52g.
• Datasheet size specs = 18.35mm, +/-0.15mm diameter by 65.05mm, +/-0.15mm long. The largest cell I tested was 18.26mm dia. x 65.12mm long.

***China Compulsory Certification, additional testing now required for all cells made or sold in China after August 1, 2024. The logo and certain information must be put on all cells once they are certified. This typically won’t be done by a manufacturer until the cell is ready to go into full production. A manufacturer can apply for an export-only exemption from CCC testing though if the cells will only be sold outside of China (or for engineering/evaluation samples) so lack of a CCC logo cannot guarantee that the cells are pre-production.

It's been a long time since I sourced Nicotine, PG & VG bases and I'm wondering where the best sources are still open for business online in the USA. Back in the day I purchased through Nicotine River and NicBase, & Wizard Labs and a few others that I can't seem to recall, but I'm not sure if any of them are still in business.. I actually froze some Ducks Breath DIY and Goose Juice DIY from Quacks Juice Factory(remember them Custard Lovers) that I purchased in 2020..Who knows if they're any good, they look and smell great..Thank You...
