These tests below only note my personal ESTIMATED ratings for the batteries I tested at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not a genuine Samsung, Sony, Murata, LG, Panasonic, Molicel, or Sanyo can change at any time! This is one of the hazards of using “rewrapped” or batteries from other manufacturers so carefully research any battery you are considering using before purchasing.

Misusing or mishandling lithium-ion batteries can pose a SERIOUS RISK of property damage, personal injury, or even death. They are not supposed to be used outside of a fully protected battery pack and you use them at your own risk. Never exceed the battery’s true continuous current rating and keep the plastic wrap and top insulating ring in perfect condition.

Testing batteries at their limits is dangerous and should never be attempted by anyone who has not thoroughly studied the dangers involved, understands the risks, has the proper equipment, and takes all appropriate safety precautions.

If the battery has only one current rating number, or if it only says "max", then I have to assume the battery is rated at that current level for any type of discharge, including continuous.




Test Results
This is a protected version of the great performing Sanyo NCR18650GA that also has a Micro-USB charging port. Its 8A rating seems reasonable as the 10A rating of the NCR18650GA can cause accelerated aging of the cell (according to the Sanyo datasheet).

The protection circuit is rated at 2.5V and cuts off the cell at about 2.4V during a 5A discharge, with the voltage bouncing back up to over 2.7V once the protection circuit was reset. The reset is done by starting to charge the cell and has to be done using the USB port. This is because many round cell chargers will not start charging this cell after its protection is activated since its voltage is close to zero volts. Once the protection circuit is reset via USB though you can use a standard round cell charger if you want.

The overcurrent protection spec for this cell is 12A. The protection did not activate at 10A and did activate at 15A, with a maximum cell temperature of 51°C when the protection was activated. The 12A cutoff could vary a bit from cell to cell but the rating seems reasonable.

The two cells I tested delivered 3427mAh and 3471mAh when charged using my standard method. They delivered 3415mAh and 3445mAh when using the USB port for charging. This is not great consistency but is acceptable and the usual slight loss of capacity caused by the protection circuit did not force this cell below Sanyo’s 3350mAh minimum capacity rating for the NCR18650GA. Neither cell met Epoch’s 3500mAh rating though.

The USB port charged this cell at 0.5A-0.65A, depending on the temperature and how far along the charge was. The top contact of the protection circuit reached 70°C maximum, hot but not unacceptable. The cell did not get hot.

The protection circuit is inside a metal cap that is press fit over the cell and is very secure. The bottom of this cell is covered by a piece of metal spot-welded to it. I do not know why but perhaps to help prevent the bottom from possibly denting?

The protection circuit and bottom plate makes this cell about 70.2mm long and the double wrapping makes it about 18.4mm round (diameter). Probably too long for any vaping device and confirm that your flashlight can fit this cell.

I’m curious as to why you shouldn’t do DL when using nic salts. I’ve got an Aegis Hero with a 0.6 coil at 15 watts. Even with the airflow closed off, it’s still to loose for a MTL. I keep reading and hearing I shouldn’t use nic salts for DL. The worst thing I’ve experienced so far is a mild headache. The nic salt is a 30mg.

At Element Vape, there are about 10 kinds of coils listed that fit the Voopoo drag x. I'm not sure which one to get but I like mouth to lung vaping so if someone could assist me, I'd appreciate it.

Also, if I am using the device for mouth to lung vaping, am I supposed to keep the air hole open, closed or halfway? Thank you in advance.

I’m a long time vaper. I have been vaping 83/27 PG/VG juice with 12-16 mg nic. I use an avacado tank with dual Clapton coils at .3 ohms and around 50-60 watts. With this config I can get my most desirable lung hit but only with certain juices and I tend to chain vape. Whenever the shop is out of my regular juice I’m always Leary picking something new because a lot of times even at the same nic level I don’t get the satisfying lung hit I crave and end up with a sore throat from hitting it so often. Soo... I moved to Hawaii and my system is all screwed up. The juices here are all 50/50 so super watery, the juice is also double the price, I burn through it twice as fast, the lung hit is barely there, and it pops and crackles really loud which drives my wife nuts and has cuased many arguments about my “stupid crack pipe”. So in an effort to make my wife happier, spend less money, and maybe vape less I decided to venture into the salts realm.

I started with a geek bar to test the waters and lung hit was phenomenal! But at $20 a pop and only lasting a day that just wasn’t going to work. So after much research I just picked up a SMOK NORD 2 and some 48mg juice. I set it for 50 watts and took my first drag. Good god almighty! One hit and I caught a buzz. I have NEVER caught a buzz from a vape before. After some messing around I dialed it down to 25 watts and so far seems like the sweet spot and I don’t have the urge to chain vape... so success? I don’t know yet? It’s for sure a lot quieter and 1/4 the size of my tank MOD. Does going from chain vaping 16mg to 48 salt nic seem excessive or about right? I may try the 24mg juice when this one is out but any other suggestions? I’m a little worried I’m going to give myself nic poisoning after that first drag lol

One of you guys suggested the Voopoo drag x when I discussed my 20th vape device no longer charging through the USB mini. It was a Geekvape which they claim are indestructible. Of course they don't mention how the USB port is a cheap piece of garbage that will eventually fail even when treated delicately. I received the Voopoo drag x in the mail a couple days ago. I didn't realize it doesn't come with a battery so I picked up an IR18650-25R 20A 3.7V battery at a local vape shop. It was working beautifully for about a half hour and then it would just turn off. Even if I pushed the buttons or clicked five times, it wouldn't power up unless I took out the battery, put it back in and then clicked five times. Then I would get a few puffs and it would turn off again. Then today, I started receiving a message that said "atomizer short". I kept getting this message over and over even if I took out the coil and put it back in. Occasionally, it would start working again, but between the device powering off and the atomizer short problem, it's more or less unusable. It was only about $60 in total so no biggie. So now I'm shopping around for my 22nd vape device. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I can't screw this part in. It falls every time, I don't know if I am missing anything, maybe it's not even supposed to screw in. But still, everywhere I checked, it seems those parts are well connected where as in my case it drops off.
