I must be one of the few who is looking forward to this one judging by the lack of buzz. I'm waiting for the Yihi SX Mini M class in Mar/Apr, but believe it or not I have never owned a box mod. I've always wanted one but never found the one I had to own. I had been looking at some box mods that used the Yihi SX300 and SX350 chips, and I came across the hcigar HB-50. Pretty cool, Yihi SX300 powered, but the deal breakers for me were 1) screws instead of magnets on the battery door, and 2) no wattage adjustment buttons, just the goofy Yihi gyroscope bs. No deal.

Then I stumbled across the Hcigar HB DNA 40, which is shipping sometime after the conclusion of Chinese New Year, so we'll see it some time in March.

I'm kind of jazzed about this little box. Authentic Evolv DNA 40 chip, magnets on the battery door, small form factor. It's like a poor man's Vaporshark, and for me, who is already planning on splurging on the more expensive Yihi SX Mini, it gives me a chance to try a real Evolv chip on the cheap and play with nickel builds while I wait for my Yihi. It'll probably become my commuting device after the Yihi shows up, so I can finally retire my almost 5 year old Silver Bullet. Price on the HB DNA 40 is projected to fall between $100-120. People aren't going to like the 510 connector on this one, but it's a small gripe given all the other benchmarks this little box hits.

I haven't seen much if any conversation on this mod so I thought here was as good a place as any to start. I'm getting one and will post my impressions when it arrives. Chinese New Year is killing me, get back to work you!

Northern NJ native , Coastal NC now.
I liked this mod except for the button layout , if the buttons were on the side it would be ideal imo. I also like the HB 35 watt model but it's overpriced imo for a 35 watt device.

I did talk to the guy behind these mods and he says the pre order price will go up considerably at some point , he told me the HB 35 watt mod was selling at around $60.00 preorder but now it's at $90.00.

Could be, the SX300 HB50, which was their last box before this, looks very similar, and is plastic.

the only place I've heard that is from a Youtube video review of the HB-50, and according to the HB-50 owners that commented on that review the reviewer was mistaken. The HB-50 and the HB DNA 40 are 6061 aluminum according to the people selling them and the owners who have commented about them online. I wouldn't have ordered a plastic box mod.

Although I'm happy to see that legit DNA 40 mods are reaching a better price point, I hope this one is wired better than the HCigar DNA 30 Mini Vaporshark clone.

That would be my concern as well. Some of their last regulated projects have not had the best reviews, but to date it is the lowest price evolv dna 40 mass produced option out there,

According to Sweet Vapes it's aluminum.

Yeah the few pages I have seen it on it says it is an aluminum enclosure.

I'll agree about the fire button, hopefully it will be a non-issue once it's in my hand. The main thing, and the reason I am so excited about this box, is that it's a sub-$120 ticket into the world of temperature controlled vaping on an authentic DNA 40, and if the HB-50 is any indication, resides in a nicely put together box.

This mod was always just meant to hold me over til the SX Mini M, at which point it will likely become my commuting device. I am looking forward to learning about nickel and temp control. I think it looks like a super little box given what it is and the price it's going for. I'm excited to get it.

It definitely has a better design aesthetic than the standard hana box or the vaporshark, imo.

The button seems to be in a relatively decent position for thumb firing, comfort level of using your index finger will largely depend on the size of the users hand.

The nickel is a mild pain to work with but not as bad as most make it out to be, but its well worth it once you get the builds dialed in/TP working properly.

Ill never vape/buy another non-TP mod after building/using a DNA40 box for the last several months, TP is the future.
