Just caught this in another thread... Doesn't overly concern me.. Have a screwdriver handy just in case though... ;)

EDIT: I'm thinking about running the screws in / out a few times, then take them out, apply a thin coating of Noalox, and run them back in tightly.. Should do the trick.. :)

Of course this is not for folks who are concerned about voiding their warranty by removing the anti-tamper sticker..

Maybe find out the thread size and get a tap. (One that will bottom out)

Gently chase it out and that should be it.

Honestly everyone that likes to mess with things should have a small basic affordable tap set. :)

Thanks for the heads up Technonut. I'll debate about opening it up to secure the screws better. Unfortunately mine wasn't delivered today, although the tracking said that it would. Hopefully tomorrow. And I too have some Nickel wire from the R/NR wires. So I'm good to go.

NP.. :) Credit goes to the OP who noticed the issue, and then to the member who's post I quoted before I shared it here though.. ;) I'm just going to go ahead and get it over with after I run the device for a couple of days to make sure all else is good. It's a simple fix, and Sweet-Vapes is only offering a 30 day manufacturing defects warranty anyway.. I haven't checked on hcigar's warranty yet.. I have a feeling it may involve a trip to China if repairs are needed.

Vaper Triad was the one who posted the issue and fix for the grounding. He's going to fix all the boxes he has before sending them off to customers.

Warranty is to go through the seller. Seller will go through hcigar and hcigar will go through whoever supplied thier chips (hcigar supplier is legit).

Word of caution, make sure you buy from a reputable company so they will help you with warranty if it needs. Avoid ebay stores and such.

Waiting for mine to have the ground fixed before he sends it to me.

In that case, it appears that Sweet-Vapes only wants to involve themselves for a 30 day manufacturing defects warranty, going by what's stated in their description... I applaud the vendor who is going to the trouble of securing the screws for their customers, and posted the fix. :toast: Our choice would be to either take a chance that the screws are properly installed, and look for issues within 30 days (chances are a replacement would have the same issue until new, corrected stock arrives), or make the fix ourselves.. As posted, I'll be fixing mine.. ;)

EDIT: If this is the same vendor mentioned, I do not applaud the $147.50 USD price...

HCigar HB-DNA40 (Black) Box Mod with Evolv Temperature Control / Protection

I'm ok with the 30 day warranty from Sweet-Vapes. If it fails catastrophically, hopefully it'll happen early. I've only had to send back two products for warranty repair (non vape related), so I've been lucky overall. Plus I'm the perfect consumer for vendors, if something goes bad and it's not worth the hassle, I usually just chalk it up as a loss and move on.

As the hassle with dealing with a warranty directly with HCigar may be too much for me, I'll probably use the device, as is, for a week or two to make sure everything's working correctly, and then pop it open to re-seat the screws.

Yes, I believe that's the Canadian vendor that was being mentioned. It's where I first learned of this device. His pre-order price was pretty low, comparable to SV, but it appears that they've raised the price a few times since then. I'm a little surprised by the $147.50 price, but if the market allows for it, more power to them. I'm just glad to be able to find a device with a genuine Evolv DNA40 chip in it that's affordable "to me". As I probably would not have purchased a DNA40 otherwise. I am still eagerly waiting for the new Yihi chip to come out. I can't wait to hear how well (or not well) that chip works for TC compared to Evolv. The SXMini M Class is at about the absolute maximum I'd be willing to spend for any mod. It's actually over my maximum, but if it does EVERYTHING everyone is hoping it will do, I may need to experience that first hand.

Tracking says out for delivery. I have a pretty busy day today, so I doubt I'll get a chance to mess with it today. But still excited to try my first Evolv chip. And to think a month ago I was still happily using my iTaste MVP2 and VV. I should never have come back to ECF to see what new and improved mods and toppers were out. I've already wiped out my vape budget for the year. Haha, I don't have a vape budget, but if I did, it's toast.

Great minds think alike... :) ;) I was going to totally pass the DNA 40 by myself in favor of the SXminiJ M. I LOVE the SXmini, and it appears that YiHi has it together regarding their temp-protection solution. I like to be objective though, and couldn't pass by the opportunity to obtain a DNA 40 device to compare at the $$ offered. :)

I'm not worried about voiding a warranty either.. The device is built so clean, I think even I could remove the board if necessary to send back to Evolv if something does go south within their warranty period (or give it a damn good try). They were fair to me before with a couple of Kicks, and a DNA 30 RMA.

Evolv product Limited Warranty

Evolv provides a non-transferable warranty to the purchaser of an Evolv product’s purchased from an authorized Evolv reseller. Evolv warrants that the product will be free from defects in material and workmanship for 90 days (1 year for DNA products) commencing on the date of purchase.

Except where prohibited by applicable local law, this warranty is limited to the original purchaser and is non-transferable.

In general, this warranty means your Evolv product will operate in accordance with published technical specifications and in the operating environment for which it was intended for the length of the warranty period.

Remedies

Evolv's entire liability and your exclusive remedy for your Evolv product that is not operating in accordance with its published technical specifications is to repair or replace the product at Evolv's expense. This warranty obligation is conditioned upon the hardware being returned to Evolv or another place as directed by Evolv, with the original sales receipt and completed RMA form attached. You may be required to pay shipping and handling charges, as well as any applicable tariffs, duties, taxes, or other fees. Evolv may, at its discretion, provide new or equivalent-to-new refurbished parts in good working condition, or repair or replace the hardware returned to Evolv.

Any repaired or replacement hardware will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period.

EDIT: Hmmm.. looks like the "purchased from an authorized Evolv reseller" thing could be a snag, but like I said, Evolv has been fair to me before... I'm banking on the board being good since it's the most current regardless... :)

I look forward to reading about yours, and Vapenstein's initial impressions on the HB DNA 40.. According to USPS tracking, mine should arrive on Monday, but I'm in the middle of a snow-storm ATM, and that remains to be seen..

first impressions

the gap created by the 510 adapter doesn't bother me

the overhang of a tank or atty on the button side does bug me a little, but it's not a deal breaker. The thing that upsets me about this is that it's unnecessary and could have been avoided.

the good without vaping it? It's small, looks nice, feels solid and the big one, the button is comfortably thumb pressable either right or left handed. It didn't look like a good setup for a lefty, but it's comfortable using it both ways, which is a big plus IMO.

Overall nothing off the bat that makes me hate it. I'll be vaping it tonight with a subohm Kanthal build after it warms up.

Vapes like a champ. I hit my Troll with a 1.00 build (higher than I was shooting for, apparently the screwdriver I wrapped on was bigger than I thought) from 32.5w to 38.5w. Flavors really popped at 38.5w but the vape was a little warmer than I like for sustained vaping. It does make me wonder if once I get a .5 ohm coil in this if I'm going to feel limited by the 40w ceiling. I'll be recoiling my Subtank Mini tomorrow and I'll see how it goes.

The coil in my Subtank Mini today reads 0.57 on this. It feels like it hits harder at my normal 28.5w than my iPV Mini, so I dialed it down to 27.5w and now it feels more like it normally does when I vape this tank.

After all these years I finally get my first box mod, and so far it's a winner. Looking forward to seeing what temp mode is all about.

ps
one more gripe. The smoked plastic over the display doesn't improve legibility. Bad choice but again, not a dealbreaker. It would make it tough to read in sunlight IMO.

It appears that the DNA 40 fires about .5v lower for a half second before it reaches steady voltage. If the Yihi SX130 in my iPV Mini did that it didn't register on the screen. Also, the iPV Mini says at 28.5w it's sending 3.7v. The DNA 40 says it's sending 3.84v at 25w. I was absolutely right about the DNA feeling hotter than my iPV Mini. As to which one is inaccurate I'd have to go rewatch a couple pbusardo reviews. The bottom line is, on my Subtank I am getting the same vape @25w that I was getting at 28.5w on my iPV Mini. Not good bad or indifferent, just FYI.

Technonut: Yes, I'm already assuming this will not qualify as an "authorized Evolv reseller" item. Just a blind leap of faith with no safety harness.

Vapenstein: Thanks for the pics. Yes, the small gap due to the slightly raised 510 connection is still there, similar to the HB50 that I've seen in video reviews. I was hoping it would have been removed, but oh well. I can live with it. And yes, for the OCD leaning people, the off-centered 510 connection which will cause the slight overhang for 22mm atomizers is a bummer. I think they had to do that with the new design of the magnetic door. So off-centered with magnet door, or centered and non-magnetic door. I guess their other option would have been to use a different 510 connector. I'm not sure what material this is, but the threads feel really good. It's a slotted, spring-loaded 510. So if their options were this one versus a smaller one that was crappier, I can live with the slight offset, but better 510.

Pic of the 510 connection:

Pic to compare the sizing: iTaste MVP v2 - HCigar HB DNA40 - iStick 50W

For what I got this for (to try out temperature limiting technology), I can live with the offset 510 and any other small flaws, as long as it works correctly. I mean come on, we're talking a real DNA40 fully completed mod for $113 people. My tamper proof sticker was already half hanging off when I received mine. I just pushed it back into place.

I'm not sure if I'm going to have the time to build a coil to test the temperature control yet. So maybe much later tonight.
Sorry for poor pics. Had to use camera phone. Battery dead on my regular camera.

I shot-off a message to Evolv regarding their stance on warranty issues with their board in this device, and provided a link to this thread.. I'll post back when I get a reply..

EXACTLY!.. So far, every "shortcoming" reported is totally acceptable to me for my purposes.. :)
