I've read through this twice now, and being a NOOB I'm still confused with the list I have four LoAnn flavors and granted the bottles are small but nowhere did I see any thing on the lable that mentions DIACETYL. Three of the flavors did say the had artificial flavor
1- Peach yellow 5, red 40
2- Strawberry red 40, blue 1, treacetin
3- Butterscotch just says carmel color
4- Vanilla Butternut also says it has carmel color
Soooooooooooooooooo to use or not to use ????
Diacetyl won't be on the label, as I discovered just a few days ago. It's one of those things that fall under that umbrella of "artificial flavors". I was wanting a butter flavor. The box (McCormick brand) stated the usual things such as propylene glycol, artificial flavors, FD&C yellow #5 and water or alcohol or whatever. It had 5 ingredients on the box that I figured I could live with. But I got home and decided to investigate further. A google search came up with a site that offered the flavoring in pint sizes, can't remember now, maybe it was a restaurant supply or something, but anyway, scrolling down and looking at the REAL ingredient list, sure enough...there was diacetyl. So beware the "artificial flavors" catch-all.
I'm as guilty as anyone else wanting to get on board with all this stuff. We get all excited saying that these things are GRAS (generally recognized as safe) by the FDA. Well, they are supposedly safe...for what they were intended for, which is eating.
As bad as cigarettes are, I smoked them for over 40 years. But I never considered eating a cigarette. The digestive system and the pulmonary system just don't function interchangeably that way.
I'm not trying to throw a wet blanket over this thing at all. I really appreciate having a very viable replacement therapy other than patches, gum, hypnotism, whatever else that doesn't work (for me). I love ecigs. I just have come to realize in the last several weeks that every single thing available isn't without at least some risk, some things more than others, maybe.
I just can say I am very thankful so far that I'm smoke-free since 07-02-2013 and counting, thanks to ecigs. I'm 62 and trying to make things better after so many years of slavery to BT. And I'm trying my best to avoid any other damage, if possible. Hey, everyone has to make his or her own decisions.
But, darn!, I sure wish there was a great butter flavor with no harm!
Best wishes!
