Release notes:
V 15.06.27: Stable, Resistherm added

In the meantime 304/316 Stainless Steel and some Nilo alloys have been added on material tabs. I didn't added those to the summary tabs for I considered detailed approximation pointless:
  • The TCRs of S/S are changing 0.0001X throughout our temp range (304: from 0.0011X to 0.0010X, 316: from 0.0009X to 0.0008X)
  • The Nilos aren't looking overly promising so I ruled those out

Thanks so much VA (and apologies for this delay in responding, apparently I never hit Post Reply!)

This SS information is really useful. Where did you find it? I searched for literally.. minutes to find a TCR for SS 316 / 317. I only found SS 304. Actually I guess that's my problem, I've always been looking for single TCRs, where you're computing it from the individual temperature readings, which is more prevalent I guess - as well as being more useful.

It's not great news of course :( Dicodes quoted a TCR of 0.00105, and I see they were referring to SS304. The SS317 I have is (presumably) similar/same as 316, and therefore is even lower, right down to 0.0008!

Welp, you know what this means. Now I need to get some SS 304! :) Zivipf.de have some. I wonder how it compares in vape terms, 304 vs 316 vs 317. I'll add it to my list of things to try, but probably won't get around to it for a little while :)

Yes indeedy, I have the 2380T.

You don't really need to telescope the one time unless you are stacking batteries though, like 2 x 18650 :D (I still need to try this out and snap a few pics, lol)

I just ordered a 2380 T, but was thinking about cancelling it and waiting for a 2380. Is there much of a weight difference in single 18650 mode? Is there a gap in single 18650 mode?

Nope, no gap, the Tele tube is all the way in, although you can not use the small tube if you wanted the Tele look ;)

Pretty sure there isn't any weight difference, and if there was it would be so minor you wouldn't be able to tell holding one after the other.

I don't think there is ant real reason to go for or the other, just grab the one you can get is my opinion. The one plus to the 2380T is if you're feeling frisky, you can use it in 2 x 18650 mode without having to buy a separate tube.

DeBloke, just a simple question. Can you please tell me the parameters of the coil you tested when using SS?. Diameter and number of wraps. I have just received my Vaporshark 60W clone from Fasttech and I would like to give it a try with SS.

Thank you.

You probably saw it, but just in case: here is my post at start of this thread with an example SS coil. 25 gauge, 3.0mm ID, and looks to be 8 wraps.

I did that test before I realised about the SXK's low resistance issues which mean you always need to set NP a bit higher than the TCR would suggest. Though not as much higher as I then said throughout most of this thread.

I would suggest trying an NP of 12-14 for an SS coil. Depends on the type of SS, but if it's SS 316 then the real NP setting would be 9 (not possible) so with the necessary increase, 12 might be OK, maybe 13. 14 at the outside.

When I get a chance I'll do some proper temp testing with SS on the SXK and Dicodes. But in the meantime, you should get a good vape from NP 12-13 I would think.

Let us know how it goes.

I usually use ss, 28g 5 wraps at 3mm id, np 11 and temp at 200C. Today I tried twisted ss 28g 5 wraps at 2.5 id and set the temp to 190G with very good results. I run it at 34 watts

Scheduled maintenance, update done:

  1. 304/316 S/S added to ρ/TFR/TCR tabs for easy comparison
  2. FeCrAl/Ni200 Claptons added (on a separate tab with all of the ρ/TFR/TCR)

Funny fact 1: My 30/30 Hybrids worked as supposed but my 28/30 and 26/32 configs notoriously under-performed TC wise. I blamed my imperfect claptons but it turned out that there was a wrong cell reference in the original Clapton table and quite a few figures went off. So my coils knew better:) Mistake now corrected but only in this sheet, thus the original Clapton Table is to be disregarded.

Funny fact 2: Same AWG Hybrid Claptons (i.e. 30/30, 32/32) have Ti-Gr1/ish TC capabilities (slightly higher TCR and resistance is similar to Ti GR1 AWG27-30 depending on the config) and the higher the AWG difference gets the closer the Clapton gets to (or even below) S/S TC wise:)

I'm probably on the wrong track here but that Kanthal Nifethal 70 looks like something I might like to try. I only see it in 36 gauge though.
Is this a bad idea?
Sounds a bit thin to me. But if the price is good might worth a shot. Alternatively, I can spare some 28 and 26 ga A120 which is very similar and free:). Just drop a pm and we figure out the postage.

I would want the Nifethal 70 in 28 gauge but there doesn't seem to be any. Sounds like I'd have to twist 7 or 8 strands to get close.
