  • I had to raise my nicotine strength

  • I had to get a bigger battery or a passthru

  • I had to find a good cartomizer

  • I had to supplement ecigs with snus or other smokeless options

  • I had to start dripping

This poll is for research purposes so if you quit smoking instantly, please do not respond.

MULTIPLE CHOICE POLL

For those of you that did NOT quit smoking all cigarettes instantly, what do you feel were the main obstacles that you absolutely had to overcome before you could forget about those last couple of cigarettes per day and move to 100% vaping?

And if there is anything I missed, please feel free to say so!

5v and is what finallly REALLY did it for me. Now that I haven't smoked any at all for months, I can vape at 3.7v again and not be worried about going back to cigarettes. But I keep a 5v mod in case I get a serious craving. I'll vape 5v for a day, then I'm ok to go back to 3.7v/LR again for a long time. :)

I used my first a week or so before going on a trip. Didn't think I'd take to it full time but needed some thing to use where I was going---long story but basically no smoking.

I marked "remove myself from all cigs" because if it weren't due to the above circumstances, I doubt if I would have stopped smoking.

I was gone for about three weeks which gave me enough time to "get use to the e-cig."

The next obstacle was getting away from the look-a-likes. Once making the switch to mods life was good.

It took me over 3 months to finally give up cigarettes after starting to vape. The last 5-6 weeks before quitting I was only smoking 1 cig/day. The biggest for me was just getting used to the e-cig and getting a bigger battery to feel more secure taking it out for the day. Finding the right flavor with the addition of dripping to eliminate fiddling around w/ carts and fillers helped also.

One word: dual coil cartomizers!

I continued to smoke some for the first couple weeks. Then when I got my dual coils from hoosierecigsupply, didn't even crave smokes. Someone smoking around me does not bother me at all. Try that with the patch. I can light a cigarette for my wife, and it just tastes nasty (on the exhale).

I think it was a combination of TH and flavor, that the duals gave me, that helped me quit.

i'm probably the anomaly here, but i haven't smoked since my first vape.

No, me neither, not seriously anyway. I think between us my wife and I might have lit 3 cigarettes, more from curiosity than desire, but could never stand to smoke more than a couple of puffs each before grinding them out.

Cheers

You didn't quite touch on my initial issues so I didn't vote. For me, I erroneously attributed some smoking withdrawal symptoms to too much nicotine, so I had to lower my nicotine level (it worked out though, and kept me at a far lower nic level than most new users). Also, I just had to get consistent performance, which I guess could be classed under "Getting used to my E-cig".

Overall, it took me 2 months to find my groove and eliminate cigarettes completely, but it was smooth sailing from there on.

I had to find a juice I really liked. I needed to get all the cigarettes out of my sight, as I am the sort of person that just would never be able to leave any hanging around.

The other thing I didn't see on the poll was back-ups. I wanted to have a belt and suspenders approach. I didn't want to move solely to something that might fail, as it isn't like I could just run out to the shop and replace bits.

All up, about 4 weeks about 2 months ago :)

A bigger battery and large capacity cartos are what did it for me. Of course, I have only been 100% smoke free for a few days, so take this with a grain of salt. It is subject to change. However, once I jumped to the E-Power 18650 and XXL Clearos and XXL DCs, I went from smoking over a pack and a half a day to smoking one or two some days and none at all on others. After about two weeks of that I stopped smoking completely. I may decide to have a smoke later this afternoon or sometime next week. I'm fine with that. The fact that I'm hardly smoking at all is what matters to me right now.

When I first started using an e-cig, a little over a year ago, I started with a ModernVapor SideSho. I quickly stepped up to a 510, then to an ego. Those were fine and I used my PV exclusively while at home. But I was using carts/dripping at the time and even with the Ego I wasn't getting a full day on a charge so when I'd leave home I would smoke. Then I got completely away from vaping for a while.

A few weeks ago I decided to give it another shot. I knew the same old thing wouldn't work for me. I needed much longer battery life and some sort of cart/carto that wouldn't take constant filling. I ordered the E-Power 18650 and some XL Clearos. Been smooth sailing ever since. I know when I pop a fresh battery in that I can easily go 24 hours with it. And I can fill 2 or 3 big cartos when I leave the house and not have to worry about refilling constantly. Sure, I keep a few bottles of juice in my backpack and top them off when I get the chance. But this setup allows it to be pretty much "maintenance free" while I'm out of the house.

So, yeah, that's what is doing it for me.

yea I started vaping last year also, but got away from it due to issues with consistency. I havent smoked in a week and things are going well. I don't see myself smoking anymore honestly. The thing is i need a better mod to maintain consistency of vapor/th. Right now I have one riva batter and one ego battery and a 5v pt, but I need to get a provari or something that I know will be consistant where I wont have to worry about it. I initially was dripping then switched to the old style carto's and then the first revision of the ce2 carto's but due to leaking and mouthfuls of liquid i gave up.
I didn't quit until I got: the ProVari, Clearo's. Since then, I haven't looked back. JMHO

Cheers,
otrpu
Clearo's are awesome, I still need to get a provari/darwin bbm :)

The morning cigarette was the one that I was stuck on.

The first thing I would do every morning was step outside and have that first cigarette.
It was how I got ready for the day, thought through the things I knew were coming, and the things I needed to handle.

I am NOT a morning person in any way, shape, or form. Never have been.
I didn't want ANY hassle whatsoever first thing in the morning.

I had to start dripping to get rid of the morning cigarette.

I slipped vaping into my life where cigarettes used to be. It turned out to be far easier than I could ever have imagined. But, it is a monumental change.

Each time I smoked those last few cigarettes, I thought about all the stuff I used to do with a cigarette in my hand. I thought about all the cigarettes I had smoked while I did stuff. So many of them!

I had to get used to myself as someone who doesn't smoke.

Over a few weeks, I saw that I could handle not smoking. I wasn't smoking. And I was fine. I was great, actually. I wasn't freaking miserable. I just didn't need to smoke anymore.

The relief started taking over.

I don't need to smoke anymore. :?:
I don't need to smoke anymore.
I don't need to smoke anymore.
I don't need to smoke anymore! :toast:

That wondrous realization took a while to fully sink in. Once it did, I let the last ones go.

Does that fall into "just had to get used to electronic cigarettes"? I hope so because that's what I voted!

I had just bought a carton of analogs, and decided to grab one of the disposables from the local smoke shop. Since my girl and I are expecting a child, I figured it would be nice to be able to 'smoke' in the house, and not have to go outside...especially once winter hits. Up here in the frigid north, outdoor smoking is a bit annoying. I had about 3 analogs out of the carton, tried out the disposable before bed, and got up the next day, didn't even light up.

Unfortunately, the disposables are just that...short-term, so I spent the next couple days buying different flavors and models. I've got 5 or so of them on a shelf. I finally found a rechargeable one with carto's and used that while trying to find a vendor and model that I wanted. Settled on an eGo-T, and haven't looked back.

Of course, the crappy disposable with the nasty tobacco flavor was what made me quit, it wasn't what kept me off. :)
