What did it take for you to put down those last couple cigarettes?

What were the main obstacles?

  • I had to remove all access to cigarettes

  • I had to find the right flavor

  • I had to get more vapor

  • I had to get more throat hit

  • I had to get less throat hit

  • I had to find a good cigarette-sized model

  • I had to raise my nicotine strength

  • I had to get a bigger battery or a passthru

  • I had to find a good cartomizer

  • I had to supplement ecigs with snus or other smokeless options

  • I had to start dripping

  • I had to get a juice-feeding mod

  • I had to go with higher voltage

  • I had to go with lower resistance

  • I just had to get used to electronic cigarettes

For me, there were a number of things that had to happen in concert. Finding the right flavor/juice, finding the right hardware (none of the poll options really covered this one, I didn't need bigger or smaller or more powerful, just the right gear that gave me the experience I needed) and I just had to get used to vaping, in general. Basically all of the individual things that contribute to finding a satisfying vape

It didn't take me long to make the switch after I did upgrade my gear and buy a larger selection of juice to play with, though. Using my original e-cig (a Super with 4081 cartos) just wasn't satisfying enough and only really served as an introduction to vaping for me. I saw the potential, though, and started doing a little homework. I probably wouldn't have given it as serious a go as I did if it hadn't been for a couple of brutally cold spells that I didn't want to go outside to smoke in :p That definitely pushed me to give it a more serious try at the time.
I used that e-cig intermittently for a couple of months, then once I upgraded to a Tornado Tank kit and an assortment of juices I found the switch pretty easy and was tobacco-free within about a week

I vaped KR08's for almost a year without complete success, then I discovered the Ego-T and I am now fourteen days analog free. I should note though that I have had issues with the tanks/attys so I moved over to mega dual coil carts until Joye corrects some of the design flaws. My wife has also now joined me and is six days analog free.

As soon as I got my first kit (a KR8 from Vapor4Life), I thought it might just work. But right away I felt like I needed more nicotine - I had originally ordered 11 and 18mg cartos, so I put in an order right away for some 24's. I decided to have a cig only when I really felt like I needed one, which was only a few times a day. My order of 24mg cartos came a few days later, and I was able to put down those last few cigarettes. Any cravings I had after that were very mild, and went away quickly. I carried cigarettes with me for the first couple weeks - in my car, in my desk, etc. - I figured the temptation would always be there, so I'd better just deal with it. I think there are still a couple of dusty packs out in the garage.

The main reason I didn't go all in was that I tried it before with very bad results. The reason for the bad results had nothing to do with e-cigs in general, just one particular brand. I tried a Blu disposable, liked it and bought their starter kit. When it came in the mail I threw my analogs away and started vaping exclusively. Either the vapor production was too low or 16mg (Blu's top strength) was too low and 2 days later I found myself 5 miles from the nearest store going through intense symptoms of nicotine withdrawal at work even though I was vaping 3m times as much as I smoked. I'm glad I work alone because I've tried to quit cold turkey before and to say I get aggressive and sometimes violent would be a bit of an understatement. I smashed the Blu kit on the ground, dropped what I was doing and drove the 5 miles to a gas station for analogs.

It could have ended there. I could have used that bad experience as an excuse to keep smoking. Instead, I did more research and found ECF and found out about all the MUCH better devices. I ended up ordering my Volcano Inferno not long after. When it came in, I still had that bad taste in my mouth from the bad experience with the Blu so I decided that I would keep a pack of analogs with me at all times and smoke 1 a day instead of 15-18 and more if I felt like I needed it.

That was the ticket for me. I ran out of Camels yesterday morning and feel just fine :)
