I took a trip to a local mall this morning, and I was outside for a few hours just walking around. During the trip, I must've seen approximately 100 people puffing on analogs, and besides myself, I did not see one single person vaping. Not on a cig-alike, not on an ego, not on a mod, not on anything.

I know that vaping is more popular than ever before, but I sure wouldn't know that just by walking around outside. I vape just as if I were smoking an analog, which means very often, and when I'm walking around outside, I am often vaping. I wonder where all of the vape people are. Are they all hiding inside?

I'm not going to judge anybody who still uses cancer sticks, because I used to be one of those people not that long ago, but I feel that the vaping industry should do a better job of advertising how much better vaping is than smoking analogs in every single way.

NYC does not have a vape culture ala SoCal. We didn't have our first vapeshop until two years ago or so and even now there's maybe about ten or twelve in a city of 8 million plus. I don't know what the reason is for this tbh, but i doubt that it has much to do with the attitude of our local government.

There is some misinformation out there for sure re it's relative safety vs. cigarettes, but the majority of smokers i have spoken with acknowledge that it's safer than smoking. I have tried to convert many people and at least a dozen or so have tried and not one has stuck with it. Most common reason is that it just doesn't give them the same 'satisfaction' that cigarettes do. Now there are a few who will use cig-a-likes in addition to smoking cigarettes but very few could be bothered with buying mods and clearos and eliquid and heads etc... nevermind building your own coils and dry-burning and re-wicking ....

I think another reason might be that they think carrying a large mod around is douchey ( i swear i have been told this by more than one person ). Someone even told me it's one of those California new agey mumbo jumbo trends. I have even got some stick from some of my own friends and acquaintances ( especially when i carried a vamo around ).

I think there will be an upsurge of users if a system as easy as a cig-a-like comes along with the power and efficiency of the more involved systems we use though.

P.s. after years of decline in the number of smokers in the city, there was an uptick from 2010 to 2013. 14 % of adults in 2010, 16 % in 2013. Still lower than the national average but still significant that the trend reversed.

I'm only five months into vaping and I've still only seen one family vaping in the wild, waiting to be seated outside a steak restaurant. A couple of guys in their late teens or early twenties, their parents and their grandparents all whipped out their PVs. We chatted briefly before we got called into the restaurant. But there are more than a dozen vape shops in town now. So somebody's obviously doing it. We do have two major universities and a college. I figure it has to be a lot of students, and we generally do not go where the students go.

I only know three other people who smoke now, down from an average of everybody I knew for years. I've tried several times to convert my best friend, but he isn't sufficiently motivated to quit. I can't even be in the car with him anymore because his Camel Lights reek so horribly.

I still have an ego battery and GS-H2 tank I use when shopping but I am one of those people "vaping in the boys room" I may take a hit in an aisle if no one is around but I try to be very discreet about it. that seems to make it a little more exciting like sneaking a smoke back in school  can't remember if this is my third or fourth childhood hehehehe

It's distinctly possible. I have been to many of them and spoken to a bunch of vapers as well, but there's a chance that there have been some new openings that i have missed. Your link doesn't help much though, mostly smokeshops, cigar bars and even home depot you have linked to, and many not even in NYC.

Thank you for the link though.

Prior to boarding a flight earlier this week, I spotted a fellow vaper with a box mod and dripper so I stopped and chatted for a while. While waiting for luggage at my destination, I saw an airport employee walking by with an ego in his hand. I've seen several vapers at airports but the smokers still greatly outnumber us.

I try to start up a conversation with a smoker by holding my mod up and asking "have you tried vaping yet" ? Often, they're interested but ignorant so I try to give them as much info as possible, (without overloading them) including this site. If they are genuinely interested, I suggest that they buy a starter kit and juice from a local vape shop. If they find that works for them they can go online and "upgrade" when they're ready.

I had the same experience today. I met my mom for lunch at the mall. Going in I passed a sea of smokers. Driving home I was surrounded by arms sticking out of car windows flicking ashes off their cancer sticks. It made me think, doesn't everyone know about vapeing by now? I realize I live in a small town, but haven't people caught on? I thought, my friends and myself are so caught up in vapeing, mod's, new juices, DIY, latest atty's. You get so caught up in the hobby of it, you forget it must still be totally foreign to so many people? Kinda sad. IDK, just my thought o_O

They probably know about them by now, but the ANTZ-controlled media has brainwashed the vast majority of them who are incapable of thinking for themselves, that e-cigs are so "dangerous," which just allows smokers to carry on as they're accustomed *secure* in the knowledge that e-cigs aren't any safer. The ANTZ-controlled media has a great deal to answer for, but they never will. But those smokers will still get dead much too young.

I used to do that, but nowadays, unless someone asks, I don't bother. IMHO, Vaping won't work unless someone is committed to giving up the dammed analogs.

Exactly, which means having to do your homework. Trying different set-ups, different nic levels, pg/vg ratios, flavors etc... That takes commitment. Trying cig-a-likes a few times won't do it for the most part.

It was two years from the time i tried my first cig-alike to the time i finally quit for good.

I was at navy pier here in Chicago for Father's day, all I saw were vapers, all kinds of mods and I only brought my cigalike. I felt almost ashamed because of the stylish peeps vaping their latest mods. Many many boxmods a few mechs, my kids even noticed and asked why didn't I bring out the big gun... BTW those frozen ice cream COPYRIGHTDMCA I think their called dots are amazing..
Best got darn ice cream I ever.. lol

So true Andria, while yes vaping may have some issues with some ejuice makers concoctions. The vast majority vapes are 100-1000 times less harmful than cigarettes. They run with the facts being shy about the actual harm of e cigs almost 0.. Thats the media, if it isn't bad, worse than, or death, they won't run the story. They look for the negative drama to publish stories per clicked on and read, paying that editor and writers bills. It's not them it is us.

On FB the positive stories will have 10 comments the negative stories will have thousands.. It's what the public wants because mostly TV babysat babies raised on springer etc..
