ust brought home an Anatolian Pyr cross... A pyratolean? An ananese? We lost a lamb two years ago and brought in one that kept the nasties at bay, but would bark at mice and frogs and ended up killing a stray cat... can't keep a cat killer around, so we went guardless for about three months...
It sucks having to be without someone who is willing to stay up and outside all year watching over the flock. We have no sheep, but both Pyrs guard everything else, even though the cows and horses really don't need guarding. And both Pyrs respect all of our cats and don't bother them. Funny, yesterday, I put out the Pyr's dinner (we feed the wolf pack method - raw meat, no bagged food) and one of the cats walked up and laid down facing the meat pile. Our big tough male Pyr laid down on the opposite side of the pile and waited to see if the cat was going to eat anything. I told the cat to buzz off so Jasper could have his dinner, but Jasper did not eat any until the cat left. He does the same thing with the chickens; if they choose to peck at his food, he waits until they leave before he eats any.
Of those, how many are layers?
Let's see... way too may roosters that I have yet to turn into rooster-pot-pie... maybe 25 hens, some too old to lay anymore but too tough for us to eat  and all of them are molting right now... we're only getting 4-6 eggs per day when last month is was a dozen per day. Who knows who's doing what at the moment...

He was working on the other contest thread that got reopened and something bad might have happened - part 2 disappeared.
Geeze! It was there, I was reading Aurora's win post, and I went to click Like and got a message that the thread could not be found. I refreshed and the whole thing is gone now. :?:

Can't keep her in the house without forcing at least two of the cats to stay outside, so tomorrow I am going to have to make her a box in the coop that the big chickens cannot get into and it'll have to have a heat lamp because this baby should be under her mommy for a few more weeks. I wish one of them would adopt her, but the odds are slim.
