Hey there, and hello

A few weeks ago I wandered into a smoke shop looking for pipe tobacco to roll my cigs with and became curious about e-cigs, but the only thing they had there were the 21st Century Smokes, so I bought one of the disposable ones for about $10 just to try it out, and it lasted me about half-a-day and I was extremely dissappointed in it, but yet I enjoyed the feeling of not clogging my lungs up with tar. So just last week I went back to that same smoke shop to buy the rechargeable unit and a pack of cartomizers, so I had 8 in all cartomizers in all. That lasted me exactly a week, so today on my way to a job interview and not wanting to smell like cigarette smoke I stopped by a completely different smoke shop to buy some more cartomizers. I must admit I'm hooked.

Here's my question, the owner of the smoke shop had 21st Century Smokes, but they weren't compatible with the one I had. Mine has a female connector on the battery and all his cartomizers had female connectors. He was trying to sell me a completely new set, claiming that this was the "new" 21st Century Smoke, although the packaging was completely different than what is listed on their site. Has anybody had any experience with that?

I wound up just buying some liquid, popping apart my cartomizers and refilling them myself cuz I didn't want to buy a whole new set. (I was on my way to a job interview, I don't have a lot of money to throw around right now! lol) But after reading around I'm getting a general negative vibe about 21st Century, but no specifics about what's so terrible. From my experience it's not too bad. The cartomizers last me about a day and the battery lasts about half a day, and thats me puffing on the damn thing almost all day long cuz I don't have to go outside to smoke anymore. I like it, but if it's the bottom of the line, what am I missing out on?

Welcome on board first off.

Second off if they are helping you not smoking there is nothing wrong with them. That said there are other options out there that others including myself use.

You have figured out how to fill your own cartomizers and that will do a few things for you. Save money is a pretty big one and then let you play a little with flavours.

I won't go into the journey you may or not follow as we all have our own path out of smoking. If you are happy carry on. Maybe worth our while buying another pack of pre filled cartos as eventually those 8 will die. There are thousands of posts here by people such as ourselves that cover every option you can think of and will be thinking of but never be afraid to ask.

Can't help with your question about this device as I started with a bigger battery option as I found this place before I started.

Airlynx, I started off on these ecigs as they were offered by my local convienience store. Ive had numerous issues with them, but anytime I called the company directly they DID stand by their product and sent out replacement parts/cartos at their cost. I had bad threading on some carts, a bad battery, the store selling the wrong threading for the kits they sold... etc.

They dont taste horrible but compared to other liquids you are better off refilling with something you like. You are doing the same thing I did. Once I figured out how to refill it was game over. btw, on average you can refill those maybe 4-5 times before you need to toss em.

However Ill say this. You are likely better off investing in an ego of some sort and either blank cartos, or a tank system. Ive moved to tanks and love em. btw, all the info you need is in these forums. educate yourself and be well.

btw, if anyone happens to know the threading size on these 21st century cartos please post it. They are not a 510 thread and every shop I showed one to didnt know either.

So what is it about the cartomizers that causes them to need replacement? I'm always against throwing things away, it's part environmentally conscious and part tightwad. I've always hated throwing away hundreds of cigarette butts each month. I did just have one of them fail to produce any vapor, but when I took it off the battery and gave it a quick inhale it spewed the liquid into my mouth (blech!) maybe the wadding inside wasn't properly saturated, but it had been sitting overnight. I tried a different one and it works fine, so not sure what I did.

I may look into modding to convert this thing to a tank system so I don't have to throw anything away.

Update, I took the faulty cartomizer apart and found out the problem with it. The problem was that I took it apart. If you've ever spliced a cable on your headphones you've seen all the little copper wires inside, the wire for the coil was about as fine as one of those little wires and wrapped around a simple bit of nylon string, but definitely not copper as it rated at about 3 Ohms when I tested it and the thing is less than an inch long. Not really sure why it burned out because it still passes current, perhaps I should take a deeper look into the science behind it. It makes me think that it wouldn't be too difficult to fill a tobacco pipe with cotton wadding soaked in the liquid and add a coil to make a custom e-pipe, lol. Some experimenting is in order. Give me a few months and perhaps I will post my results in the modding forum.

I started with a 21st Century E-cig. My batteries still work but I have not used it in while. Those cartomizers are very expensive. I spent more on cartos in a month that I did on an eGo type battery kit. Find some E-liquid at one of the recommended vendors and refill those babies. If your still enjoying e-cig find a bigger battery when you can. I'm pretty sure liquid they use in their regular cartomizers is an RY4 type but I don't who makes it. I went from 21st Century juice to Back Woods Brew's "Virginia" at 24 mg and was able to put the cigarettes down for good. Lots of good stuff out there. Good luck coming off the smokes. Welcome to the forum. My .02 - Get 2 or 3 (900 mAh+) eGo type batteries with 510 threads, charger and some Boge LR Cartos and you'll be good to go.

You can vape A LOT BETTER and a LOT LESS EXPENSIVELY than using a 21st Century with prefilled cartos. 21st Century is a bottom of the barrel model. I would look at the E-Power 510, Kgo or EVO. All of these will give you triple the time on a battery charge and give you warmer vapor. Buy some blank cartomizers for about $1.75 - $2.00 each and fill it with the eliquid you like and save money. Here are some well supported suppliers:

EVO V2 Kit

KGO kit1100mAh by SLB

E-Power Replacable Battery kit!

Good Luck and Welcome.
