In theory it should. But you'd have to make sure it was plugged into something that can give the amps you need. Most people use these 2 amp AC to USB Adapter, ideal for Passthroughs as they put out enough to power an HV PT properly. You may or may not get enough amperage out of a usb port on your computer, and it's safer to use the wall adapter. You don't want to try drawing 1.5 amps from a .5 amp usb port or you're asking for trouble.

While the Pro vari is a good top quality unit, it is an investiment. For those who aren't sure if HV is going to work for them an HV PT is a good inexpensive option to test the waters. If they in fact do like HV, they have a back up HV rig when they do make that final investment. That's my :2c:.

That's exactly what I am going to do. Just ordered my 5v 510 PT and wall adapter, we will see how I like it. If I am in love I will start saving for a Pro-Vari. :)

A direct 5v PT will give you what you want, assuming you're using a 3.0ish Ω atty and a good power supply (not your computer). When in doubt, you can easily make one if you don't mind modding and have an extra USB cord. See the modder's section for info.

The pro-vari is nice. The thing about PT's is that they are not as portable, and always have that cord hanging off em. OTOH they cost about $15.00 (not counting the power supply, another $10.00), not $180.00.

Ok, I know this is a lame question but how do you know the amperage of your PC's USB?

That's the point, you don't. In many cases it isn't even as high as the spec's say it is. There were also reports on here last year of people damaging their laptops by vaping using their usb port. I just would not fool with plugging into your computer but instead just get a good USB to AC 5v/2amp adapter so you can just plug it into the wall. Better yet, just get a good 5 volt or VV PV.

^^^breakthru you are too funny!

I tried a 5v passthru from MV to see if I preferred higher voltage than a 510. Indeed I did! While my PT is still working just fine, I have since tried the RoughStack with the extension and two 18350 batteries. Wish I could vape that thing all day, but no, I have to have something a bit less "rough" looking for work. The 5v PT may not be true 5v, but that RoughStack with extension is knocking everything else out of the water. Am saving for a GGTS or Provari, but have no idea when I can get one.

Go ahead and go for the PT, you will like it, I am sure!

Quick question for y'all..

Would a 5v 510 Manual USB Passthrough give me just as much taste and vapor as other 5v cigs such as the Pro-vari?

Thanks.

Generally Speaking no it wont be the same even on a 2 amp adapter. Here is a video of my latest passthrew with a 2.2ohm on a 5 volt 2 amp powered USB hub loaded reading is about 4.2 volts. I usually power it off a switching Variable voltage card i have and the voltage drop is is only 0.1 @ 5 volts. But thats just not something everyone has laying around. Really 2 amps is a minimum rating in my book 3 amps is more ideal for PT's. Also you have the USB cord the thickest one i have found is 24 gauge wire. So a 6 foot cord 24guage @ .02567 ohms per a foot comes out to adding .3 ohms to your circuit. (12 feet total 6 foot there and 6 foot back positive and negitive wires) as where a battery powered unit shouldnt be adding much resistance if made right. But even so since i spend quite a bit of time on my puter i like using my passthrough rather then putting wear and tear on my batteries. Really you would be better off with a battery powered unit thats quality made unless you do spend alot of time in a place where a PT can get used.
