So I'v been wonderring, would there be any way to make a good hands free mod? kind of like the cig style e cigs most people start out on but one thats actually able to put out a good amount of vapor, able to be refilled/recharged/rebuilt, but can still be used without hands when your actually doing something but still want to vape(maybe while you hold it between your teeth)? like does anyone know how that switch that turns on when you inhale actually works? I'm not personally at the level that I can make my own mods but I'd like to be someday and im really curious about this.
Also, whats so good about sony vct4s and vct5s?

thanks ahead of time

    Welcome to ECF!

In my opinion, anything capable of creating a lot more vapor would be too heavy to hold in your mouth. A hookah-style setup might work though. Give your mod a belt clip and run a tube with a drip tip at the end up to your mouth. Not nearly as convenient, of course, but a good option for a lot more vapor. Condensation inside the tube might be a problem but it's easy to test for.

Sony VTC4's and 5's are great batteries for a few reasons...
    - High continuous current ratings, up to 30A for the VTC4 and 20A for the VTC5.
    - Moderate operating temperature at high amps, providing a safety margin against venting.
    - Decent voltage while being discharged, providing harder hits in a mechanical mod or reducing the amount of current being drawn when being used in a regulated mod.
    - Consistent performance from battery to battery due to quality manufacturing.
    - No worrying about whether the specs might suddenly change because a cell rewrapper decided to switch cells but still call it the same battery.

On the other hand, the Sony VTC's are probably the most commonly fraudulent batteries sold. I would be careful where I buy them from or else you will get a rewrapped cell that's called a VTC but isn't (and has a lower safe discharge rate).

    Good point!
Only purchase from known reliable vendors like Illumn, Orbtronic, RTDVapor, IMRBatteries, Liionwholesale, etc.

What is "automatic inhalation activation"? How does automatic electronic vaporizer battery work?

It's a simple pressure transducer. Drawing on the mouthpiece lowers the ambient pressure at the measuring station and the signal from the transducer activates the electronics. Obviously, the switch is tiny; they're used in the cigalikes all the time. But @Mooch is right: by the time you've got enough coil and wick for serious vapor, plus enough battery to fire it, it's too heavy to hold comfortably in the jaw. A handheld or tabletop unit could be built, I'm certain. But I am also unsure the vape temp could be held high enough to prevent condensation of the vapor on the tube walls if the mouthpiece is any great distance from the coil. Odd problem, most people are trying to cool the vape down a bit before inhaling. I'll try it when I get home, I've got a piece of vinyl tube that fits over a Fogger V4 drip tip as a filling aid.

If it was possible to make a cigalike with enough power to put out a good amount of vapor and last most if not all day on a single charge someone surely would have done it by now.

There are 3 fundamental problems to overcome though.

    1. The battery. To produce enough power to create the vapor you're looking for and to last more than an hour or two you're going to need a large battery. That's going to make the mod too heavy to hold in your mouth.

    2. Airflow. The amount of vapor you can produce is largely limited by the airflow. Air can only hold so much vapor so the more vapor you want the more air you have to provide. There is a good reason why subohm tanks have chimneys as large in diameter as a cigalike, it takes that much air to hold the vapor. As a bare minimum you would need to provide a coil and chimney assembly similar in size to an Aspire Nautilus to get a decent amount of vapor from it.

    3. Juice reservoir. This is obvious. You need juice to provide vapor and the more vapor you produce the more juice it's going to need. The .25ml that your typical cigalike provides would likely only last a few puffs if you're producing similar vapor to lung hitting a Nautilus. You're either going to need to refill the thing a couple of dozen times a day or you're going to need a tank that will hold more than 1ml of juice.

Probably the smallest, most compact usable device you could come up with would be the size of an Ego with a small tank, and you'll get about the same vapor from it as you would your typical Ego. They already have automatic batteries for Ego setups, so if that's what you're wanting then it would probably be easier just to buy one of those than try to make your own.
