While today is the 72nd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor it is also the first anniversary of the day I quit smoking and while I haven't spent the entire year in Reoville it is certainly the place I want to be for celebrating such an auspicious occasion.

And instead of the ubiquitous details of my vaping journey so prevalent in other anniversary threads (we all know where I ended up) I'd like to begin with a catalog of other milestones...specifically first smells. The improvement in my breathing and energy level, while markedly improved, have really played second fiddle to something I had forgotten existed.

January 2013

The first time I smelled the pizza (from the basement no less) my wife was making...wow...
The first time I TASTED the pizza my wife was making....WOW...

March 2013

The smell of rain (rain smells?...yes...yes it does).

May 2013

The smell of the sump pump.
The smell of the cat's litter box (okay maybe this smell thing has a downside...).

July 2013

All the smells at the 4-H fair we attend annually...from the goats and the cows and the chickens to the hot dog stand and the fried elephant ears...and...and...

August 2013

The smell of the lake I grew up on...I almost cried.

September 2013

The first time I could taste the difference between silica and cotton (cotton won).

November - December 2013

Thanksgiving...duh!

Recently my sense of smell has really taken off...I've detected all sorts of subtle odors but the one that sticks out the most is the day I got Xobeloots' NEMP in the mail. I'd been vaping my head (it really is quite good) and had run upstairs for a quick bite to eat. As I was heading back downstairs I caught a whiff of...something...I stopped and the smell went away. I continued and the smell came back and I thought, "Wow...that Brown Bomber really leaves an odor in the air." It wasn't until I reached the bottom of the stairs that I realized what I was smelling was the bowl of cornflakes I was carrying. First time that had happened (cereal is my first, second, and fourth food group. My third is milk).

Since modding Mr. Roboto to fit the Cyclone/AFC I've been thinking about another atty to use as my dedicated dripper so to celebrate my anniversary I treated myself to a Patriot (with matching drip tip). After getting it I wondered what it would look like on Mr. R.

The answer is...too big.

So, I dusted off my old Zenesis 2 (which I'd barely used) and it was a perfect match. Almost like having a hybrid without having a hybrid.

I'm no jingoist but I'd just like to point out...

My first build on the Patriot. .5 ohms of perfection...look at the size of that deck!

All fired up...

Something else I learned this year (thank you Mr. Mundy).

And here's the family as it stands today. A few dings here and there and maybe some missing paint but still happy...

And finally, a special thanks to all the folks here in Reoville...Supes for dragging me in, pdib, Xobeloot, and Mamatried for making me laugh (among all their other contributions), DarkZero for making really cool stuff, and of course Rob for starting it all (and everyone else here in Reoville).

Semper Fi and carry on.
