I've read and read about problems with ego's and the mosfets. Most of what I have seen has actually been problems with the ego clones like the Riva and mosfets. I have not had any problems nor has my mother, which is the extent of my first hand knowledge of ego's with LR. Maybe we are getting lucky, maybe the Ego is built better, or maybe (probably) it's because I'm using 2.0 LR, not 1.8. At any rate, it's working great for me.

I've actually thought about getting an icon. It's still going to be heavier than my ego and the finish is still going to stand out more, which many people do not want. You can't really choose your color with it either. I was going to get my mom one, but she is so completely happy with her 900 mAh ego that she wouldn't touch it if I got it. Box mods are just ugly.

The ego is what it is, and that is a great starter kit for newbies and experienced users alike. Obviously it's not for everybody, and I don't blindly recommend it to everybody without regard to what they want or need, but I do understand why people are so happy with them. Some people like the fact that they can use their ego until the battery (or switch) dies and buy a new battery. They don't have to worry about cleaning the switch and applying noalox like I do on my V3 and you would on the Icon. They don't have to worry about springs/washers/etc. The ego fits the bill for many, many people and it will fit the bill for many of those that say they want a cig sized PV.

Some of us have seen too many people try an inferior product and give up. I picked up a couple of ego kits from Liberty-flights with their sale just for people around here. I can't tell you how many people I have had say they know someone that tried e-cigs but they didn't get enough nicotine or the battery life was too frustrating they they gave up. Good juice, maybe an LR atty or carto, and something like the Ego fixes that. I know a lot more people willing to pick up and try an ego than I do people willing to use a box mod. Mods still have a higher start up costs as well. I can purchase 2-3 ego kits for the price it would take me to get rolling with an Icon.

I can't speak on the mosfet issue. I've never outright killed a 510 battery either, although I have went through a bunch that the battery deteriorated to the point it would no longer hold a charge. I have outright killed 510 clones however. I'm positive that there are genuine joye ego's that die, but I'm guessing there are a lot more knock offs that give the ego a bad name.

As far as the OP, if someone says they are looking for cigarette sized, I never recommend the ego. I will recommend the 510 unless they feel they have to have a manual, in which case I recommend the Kr808. I will be the first to recommend an ego if someone says size is not an issue, as like I say, it does have a cult like following for a reason. When recommend a Kr8 or standard 510 to someone, I do make sure that they know if they are not happy with it, there are other devices that could do what they want, they simply have to give up their size requirement. I may throw in an ego recommendation in case they decide that size is not the motivating factor they thought. I give them the choice to take what they want but will probably upgrade, or save money if they can over the size mental component.

All in all, even though I defend the ego, I also get sick of people recommending it when it is not warranted. I recommend based on requirements. However, the issue of not reading the OP runs far beyond recommendations on this forum. It's a major problem probably compounded by the huge number of people that have never used a forum before, until they found e-cigs. Even I'm guilty of using a thread as a chat room, but only after the OP's question/problem is resolved or it's a simple chat type thread like this one.

Please don't speak for all of us because the very appeal of an e cig to a great many people is that it DOES look and behave like a cigarette. I am sorry that you have separated yourself from the smokers since one goal of the anti-smokers is to make smokers feel exactly as you have expressed yourself. If you don't want to look like a smoker, don't blow vape that looks like smoke regardless of the tool that produces it.

I'm a little late responding in this thread (had to clean and suchnots), but the reason for the "anger" is obvious. As one who growled at me in a post stating I liked the Blu, you are disrespecting my opinion as if I have no right to an opinion or am stupid.

Yeah, that's begging for people to jump you. Your opinion with the Blu, or for that matter is only your own opinion. You have no statistics that 510 lovers are in the "tenth percentile" or whatever unless you can hunt down every Blu user and make a spreadsheet. Incidentally I don't see the credibility of 9 out of 10 loving an ego either.

I really really like my Blu, as well as my mall Kiosk (and reasonably priced) e-cig. Will you downtalk me because my opinion is different? I am very sorry your experience was different, but your bad experience does not negate others pleasure in using the devices.

With the truly forceful abhorrence you hold for the Blu, one would seriously think it abused you as a child.

I'm glad you posted. I'll use you as an example. Too many people confuse being disagreed with and being personally attacked. I've never said anything negative about you... ever, but you say I talked down to you? I can bash any device in any way I want, and still not be bashing you. You do get that right?

I just wanna say that I have used a 4081 from the beginning and love it. I have also had a 510 and disliked it so much that I gave it to my sister in law who absolutely loves it. I personally do not like the manual battery at all for me auto is the way to go. When someone asks me what one they should by I just give them a big list of all the e-cigs I know of and tell them they all have their pros and cons and it would be best if they researched them all to find the right one for them.

To each their own. What one may love another may despise.

The 4081 is a great little vape, actually, and the 4081 Cartomizers are the best I have ever used, bar none... yet the 4081 gets very very little love... I had 3 4081s for a while and was able to get through a day using them, no problem.

I gave them away when I moved up to mods, but those 4081s turned at least 6 or 7 people on to vaping, and they are still in use, a few PIF's down the line...

But... seriously, you should get an eGo... LOL

I KID... oooh, I'm a kidder!

I might have saved a bunch of money if I had skipped the cigarette look-alikes back when I started.

Yeah, a lot of us would!! But it's like that's where we all HAD to start. Most of us anyway. I'm still a newbie myself, and I could see myself staying with 510s and egos for a long time (depending on the situation) as long as they don't break too often. As a newbie, because of this thread, I started a blog page on what I would recommend and exactly why. Not that I have a lot of experience at vaping, but because I do have a lot of experience as a newbie!

I have a 510 mega batt. I love it. The ego could be better and very well may be. But I am perfectly content with waht I have. Dont want an ego. If it isnt broke dont fix it. So why would I switch. :p

It wouldn't really be switching. The eGo is 510 threaded. So, it's just like going from a standard 510 batt to a mega batt. I'm just sayin'...

The eGo guys never let up, do they? It starts to resemble school yard peer pressure!

I just think that some people that have been using ecigs for months on end got tired of the battery shuffle. I know I did. Until recently, I couldn't ever get the good hits from a smaller pv. I ordered a 808 for a pal and was impressed with the performance of the 380mah battery he got as a backup. It cooks those cartos up real good. But I'm a one battery a day, or every other day guy. The constant fidgeting got old towards a year of use. I still love my screwdriver, but self juicers are the way I roll now. Mess with it once in the am, and you're done unless an atty goes dead. Other than that, pick it up, get a massive hit a few times, and then I'm done.
