The guys been taking shots in a variety of threads... It's getting old... Especially the "just kidding" deflection. That's cool that he's kidding, and I was amused for a while, but you can only hear the same joke so many times before it's no longer amusing, ya follow?

The point of this thread from the OP resonates with me for one very good reason... I was using 4081s when I purchased my eGo, and the eGo simply did not impress me. I actually found the battery life to be dissapointing... I was told it would last at least a full day... It was dead by noon... Battery two... Dead by 6 pm... You could say six hours is great.. Well... Its a little over twice what I got from the 4081... Is that what we are calling the best product for most people?

It's bad advice is what it is.

You want long life? Get a big battery at 3.7 v, you want a cigalike the 4081 is tough to beat...

The eGo is over hyped and under delivered on the promise to me, and Tavis, suggesting a2.0 carto on an ego without also telling them the battery MAY be compromised by that resistance is ALSO bad advice.

The problem with me offering up common sense advice backed with real experience is that it's frustrating as hell to watch folks ignore and poke at it.

So, you win... Let's talk about the weather.

Until I see, rather than just listen to hearsay, an actual JOYE ego, not a Riva or some other clone, be compromised by a 2 ohm cartomizer, I will continue to recommend them without hesitation. I have seen many, many people use these on Ego's and of all that I KNOW are using them on true Joye batteries, I have not seen a single problem. If I'm proved wrong I'll eat crow, but for now I'm chalking up problems to either bad luck, atties with lower resistance (like 1.7, 1.8) or knock offs built with sub-par quality.

I'm on an airplane heading to DC, enjoying the free wifi on airtran...

Chuckles... Now THAT is taking the high road... I realized the problem with the weather in Rochester this week... I was on the wrong side of the clouds! At 21000 feet the sun is shining, and it doesn't matter if I have a ProVape or an eGo, airtran won't let me use it either way.

Yeah... All is well in the world... All is well.

In an other thread the Joye protection circuit is discussed and explains why the mosfet pops...

I have seen posts about FAKE Ego's and I have a question. Is there a way to tell if it's a real Ego? I would really appreciate any help with that.

TIA!

You do realize neither Joyetech nor any of the other "knockoffs" manufacture ANY of their electronic components. I'll bet another mod that if we were to crack open a "Genuine Joye eGo" and a handful of "whatevers" we'd find the electronics inside, on the component level, to be the same on most, if not all....and probably off the same assembly line.

Might as well say Ford gets you to the grocery store better than Chevy.

We all know that's just silly.

Because Chevy rules!

I'm just sayin'

There are fakes, which are sold as genuine Joye, and there are clones which are sold as other brands and there are ones made by Joye and sold as other brands and there are ones made by Joye to specification of the other brands and on and on and on... How can you tell? No clue, and I dont know how to find out... Not definitively... I do know that if you buy totally wicked you will get genuine Joye, made to his specs, which seem to be pretty good from my experience thus far.

Great thank you so much! I did order mine from TW so now I know I didn't get a fake :p)

So right now in china, a little girl is stuffing batteries and chips into eGo battery housings, and soon it will be in the hands of one lucky American where it will last less than a year then be replaced.

And somewhere in the USA folks at pure smoker, ProVape, super t, and notcigs are painstakingly building provaris, prodigys, buzzes and the like, which will last a lifetime.

Such a shame the Chinese product is considered to be the best in the world by many.

There are none so blind as those that will not see.

I guess it just depends on what you get lol. My sd mkII is made in china, and while I love my protege from PS, the switch just always seemed to mess with me. While I know the sd MKII is mass produced, it's solid simple and brutally effective. Has survived upwards of a year in my pocket in the back of a granite shop lol. It's not WWE back here or anything, but my devices get knocked around a bit.

I have a V3 and find myself using my ego more. It's more of a size/weight issue. Sure I'll use the V3 with a standard carto @ 6 volts at the house, and I used to carry it with me, but since the ego and LR carto give me a good vape without trying to pull my shirt off if I put it in that pocket, or without making sitting uncomfortable if I put it in my pants pocket, the ego has a place that those others don't. I keep considering ordering the Provari because it looks awesome. I also know that with that many electronic components it's not going to last a lifetime without costly repair.

With my ego I stick my atomizer on and go. With my V3 I stick my atomizer on and go, only to realize that I'm not getting a good hit. Now I have to take the button end off and make sure it's good and clean, apply noalox to it, put it back together and hope that was the problem. It usually is. In the end, is the V3 or most other mods a reliable unit? Absolutely, but the size/weight of most battery tubes can detract potential vapors that really still want battery life, and the Ego fits that bill. Heck, even Puresmoker sells the Ego, and cheaper than about any other place around @ $50.00.

I've never claimed the Ego to be the best in the world, but I do claim that it is a great little e-cig for newbies and veterans alike. With the emergence of LR atomizers 3.7 (or 3.2) Volts made it's way back into the ballgame as far as viability to those that needed a good "hit". As far as the point of this thread, I've never been one to blindly recommend anything. I always read the OP's requirements and make my recommendation based on that, and also get irritated when I see suggestions that are obviously disqualified based upon the OP's stated wants/needs. With that said, if I see somebody say that they want an e-cig with decent battery life in a (smallish) size with a good hit, I'll recommend the Ego and Boge 2 ohm atty.

In the end you can accuse people of refusing to see, but you have to realize that you refuse to see what they like about the ego. You are more than welcome to try it out and decide it's not for you, but it's not really your place or the place of anybody else to run down a popular device simply because it wasn't for you. I refused to join the ego bandwagon for a long time before finally deciding to see what all the hype was about, and honestly I'm fairly impressed with this little guy.

Are you using 2 14250's and a terminator to get to 5v?

That switch is easy as pie to get under control. Both of mine never act up.

I'm running my protege on a passthru for 5v. I've had their switch completely apart, and I know there isn't much to the idea. It just seems to get out of wack every so often and either needs to be rotated a hair, or pressed harder sometimes. And also, the 801's make contact funny on it. Sometimes they need to be on fairly loose to work. Sounds like I hate it lol, but I really like the thing. I'm a 901 guy, but the 801 gives a diff vape imo. It's a little bit of a change every once in a while.

The switch is easy to make right, just disassemble it all the way down to the copper washer and lightly scrape the washer with an xacto blade or razor knife. Pop a little conductive grease on it to keep it from oxidizing and slide it back together. It will fire perfectly for months after that. When it shows the first sign of misfiring, hit it again. Mine hasn't misfired in over two months and I see no sign of it screwing up.

801s are a quirky vape, but man, I really like them a lot, especially at elevated voltage. My first PV was a 801, followed quickly by a 4081... And both of these are kinda like "coming home" for me.

You know, thinking about this, and the context in this thread... I've tried a lot of PVs and I've discovered a lot about how they work compared to each other. I've got all kinds of of adapters so I can try pretty much any combo of battery and atty/carto... I have found very few things that are truly exceptional, and thinking as I go, I'm starting to come to a conclusion as to why I dislike the eGo as the "go to" PV for noobs....

The eGo is good... Very good... But even with an LR atty it is far from exceptional in my experience. Pretty much any 3.7v device with an LR outperforms it for vapor, hit and flavor. But I was told by several well intentioned but misinformed vapers that the eGo would outperform both my 801 and my 4081, and with the exception of battery life it didn't perform as well for flavor, vapor or hit. I later found out the eGo was the only PV they had tried, besides some low end junk. Sure, for them it was better than junk, but that in no way makes it anywhere close to perfect.

Yes, there are folks that are impressed with it that actually have tried "better" mods, and a lot of the comment are based on size and weight which creates the bias towards the eGo. I will stipulate to the fact that it packs a punch for it's size, within limitation of performance I have discussed, and all that is true.

For vapor, hit and flavor, theres no way in hell the eGo trumps the 801 and 4081... For battery life, the eGo is a hands down winner. An extra couple of batteries solves that... So... Why is the eGo so popular?

The answer is... It's not... There are WAY more 4081s out there in the hands of folks that are so pleased with it, they don't come here looking for advice! The total membership of ECF is roughly equivalent to one month of sales for Njoy, Blue and Joye combined.

We are the vocal minority.
