Ok so im a newb. I'm purchasing my first e-cig this month. I definitely wouldnt want someone suggesting big bulky untradionally styled batteries for me as a beginner. I'm currently looking at the g300n series from greencig/greentech. So i agreee completely with g4. Us newbs need guidance not a blatent personal preference orientated answer.

I think a lot of the ego love stems from the fact that for the longest time, before we had these great mods available to us, we didn't have a lot of choices. I started off with a Joye 306, which seems to be coming back full circle and now it's all of the sudden the flavor of the month. I wasn't happy with it. I've tried 801's, 901's, Kr8's, and just never really found anything that satisfied until I tried the 510. The story holds true for a great deal many of us. We recommended the 510 to newbies because it seemed to work great for a great deal many people, with the exception of spending hours upon hours trying out different cart mods of course.

The 510 grew an extremely loyal fan base with a love for the atomizer but yet a hatred for the battery. Heck I shelled out 100 bucks for the spade when it came out because a 510 using a 10440 battery was my holy grail. It was still semi small in size compared to many mods now yet offered extended battery life. With the emergence of the ego, you now have a 510 atomizer on a stylish battery in a decent size. I fully agree that there are better things out there, but the fact is that the 510 has always gotten the job done, even with horrible battery life, which explains it's popularity. The ego just fits that middle ground between a great (IMHO) atomizer/battery life/size, and it looks good doing it.

If you want to know why a lot of us don't hesitate to recommend the ego when appropriate, there you have it. The 510 has worked for me, it's worked for countless others on here, and it's worked for many people that I have helped get started vaping. In my mind there is no denying it works, and there is no denying the battery life of a standard 510 just well, sucks. The ego has it's place, more now than ever with LR atties imho, even if it may compromise the battery.

I was going to post this awhile back, but was too lazy.
But yeah, you just nailed it.

The Ego is a step up from the 510, which is a model that helped many quit smoking when other models didn't cut it.
And there were threads about 510 fanbois not so long ago, just as there are now threads about Ego fanbois.

Mostly those threads were fed by the KR808D-1 fanbois.

In fact, here is just such a thread...

Life is a circle, and it spins around and around.

After 13 pages my eyes started to bleed... but like everyone, I have to chime in with my thoughts.

I'll advise people based off my experience, I started with an eGo (they sell them in physical stores over here) so I suggest that most of the time. If someone really wants something smaller, I'll suggest a standard 510 as they are closer to an analog but still better than others I've tried (with the advantage that they can upgrade later, if they want, by only buying the battery).

I will however push someone AWAY from the Blu, that is the worst thing I've ever tried. I've converted well over 30 people, all but one went straight to an eGo and are still using them. The one didn't listen and went with a Blu, because wanted something smaller and didn't want to deal with refilling carts. He got it, and said "You were right, I ordered an eGo the day I got the Blu."

One person that was a PAD smoker but didn't want to go with an eGo because of having to deal with juice and refilling I suggested Volcano's Inferno, which is sold without any carts or attys (but some nice batteries, one being the USB passthrough). They got a few pre-filled carto's with it an were happy.

Everyone is different, but in my experience most people that interested in trying it don't really know what they want, even if they think they do. That's why I suggest the eGo or a standard 510, everyone that I've converted have gone with them and been quite happy with them. Though, I also do tend to end my suggestion posts with "But there are other models that I'm not familiar with and someone else can tell you more about."

Hopefully you have done enough research to understand that when a newb says "I want it to look like the real thing", they are also saying "I don't care how well it performs". If your priority is apperance, then a mini auto device is the the right choice. I respect that eveyone is different. Now if the newb was well versed enough to state "I want it to feel as much like the real thing when I inhale the vapor", that would require a totally different response.

The thing is, analog's and PV's are two totally different technologies. So to even expect that they should look and feel the same in your hand is asking a lot. Not that it can't happen, but ultimately you're going to be unsatisfied with the battery life.

An analog only has to last as long as an analog because you have 20 of them in a pack and can easily go to the gas station and buy another pack. If you don't want to buy 20 batteries and 20 carts every day or constantly recharge, then you'll have to get something bigger. That's just the way it is. Ten or fifteen years from now when battery technology improves that might be a different story. But hopefully by then most people will be off analogs anyway.

I....I just....

I can't do it any more....

I mean...we've gone over this what?...100 times already?

The point just keeps getting glossed over.

I don't understand it.

Listen, I don't mean to rag on ya rox but since you happen to be the last post in a long line of similar responses I just....I just have no other choice. Please don't take it personal.

Well here we go...

The OP example includes;
"asking for something that looks like an analog because they only smoke socially"

Let's generally assume such person is going out for a few drinks...perfect situation for a social smoker. Average time out is what? Maybe an hour or two? I really don't think a "social smoker" is heading out to suck down a pack of cigarettes in an hour...or two. Just my opinion here. I could be wrong. But it's my understanding a typical "social smoker" does not turn into choo choo chimney chain smoker when hanging out with some friends. Again....just my observations and understanding of the term "social smoker" here. Where does the "social smoker" need a PV with a 6 hour battery life?

And once again we come full circle with; "can we actually pay attention"

It boggles the mind...

Person buying their first car: "I'm tired of riding the bus ten blocks to work... I'm going to get a car instead... What car should I get?"

Response from helpful friend... " my first car was a dodge neon, and it sucked... Get a caddilac cts "

there's no point in continuing this

I would have to disagree, one of my converts was a social smoker, only smoked when he was out at the pub. He could go through a pack in a night (which, granted, was longer than a 1-2 hour outing). Outside of the pub he never smoked, if he didn't go down for a week, then he didn't smoke for a week. I got him an eGo and he's perfectly happy with it, the overall sensation from the larger system feels more like smoking than those little minis that just can't put out enough vapor.

What I do agree with is HOW people are going about it. Don't just say "go buy an ego", explain why you think they should get an eGo, pros and cons, and why you think the other models that "look like an analog" are not what they want. If, after you know they have been informed, they still want something smaller then either drop out of the conversation or offer advice on a model that meets their needs.

My point is, when you're buying something new you don't know what it is you want, you just think you know. Make sure they have the appropriate information, and THEN let them MAKE THEIR CHOICE. DON'T just push them towards an eGo/buzz/gv2/whatever, but at the same time DON'T just assume they actually know what they want. Offer them the information, at least then if they get a Blu and realize it's crap they'll (hopefully) not think they are all crap and come back looking for something different.

All good points. Unfortunately there are the "if he said he wants it to look like an analog, tell him to get a super mini" thought police on here that seems to like the idea of newbie's buying models like the Blu. I think it is the "misery loves company" syndrome which dictates that newbies must make the same mistakes they did. And who cares when the newbie goes and gets an auto super mini or a Blu, realizes it doesn't feel like smoking and is a pain in the ...., decides it's just another gimmick and goes back to analogs. I also understand when someone posts "just get an eGo" because we all are lazy sometimes and don't want to go into the pros and cons. But your suggestion on taking the time to explain the pros and cons of the better battery models over the analog look alikes and then let the newbie make a decision is the best way to go.

Wv2win... Since blu does like six million in business each year, and a pretty small percentage of their customers become members here, to what do you attribute your misery loves company comment?

To think that ecf is anything more than a small percentage of the vaping community is a bit outrageous.

Basing opinions on this small segment of the population is a little silly... We are the guys that become hobbyists... Most just vap em an quit analogs, or not.

I base my opinion on my personal experience and the thousand of posts I have read on this and other PV forums when it comes to what is an effective PV.

And why do you believe that Blu is a good PV because the company did $6M in business? Maybe you have little knowledge or experience in effective marketing, which they do quite well. The Pet Rock was another example of brilliant marketing. The Pinto by Ford was another good example of great marketing of a poor product.

If you think those numbers proves that Blu is a good PV, then you are just the type of consumer those of us in business love to find. Easy money.

And your point about "most vape'em, quit analogs or not" is the point. I have never encountered a user of one of the better PV's tell me they went back to analogs. I have personally talked with 11 people you tried either a Blu or an SE and told me they didn't work, barely any vapor and were just a gimmick and went back to analogs. You may not care if a newbie goes back to analogs due to an ineffective device but many of us genuinely want to help people be successful in that transiton.

Actually, blu is looking to hit 30 million in sales this year. What a piece of crap! And holy chit that is a lot if stupid-... people buying these things up. They MUST all be dumb. I mean...EVERYONE just HAS TO HAVE the ultimate PV or they will ABSOLUTELY FAIL.

Actually, I change my stance on everything. We're the failures. We can't get by on something that only works decent or "good enough". We fail. You fail. Failures....all of us.

First purchase: DSE-901/RN..... RN..... WOW.... it has been that long since I have bought one...
Second purchase: 510.... it left me wanting more vapor so I stayed with the first purchase....
Third Purchase: More 901 equipment.... You name it, I had it. Hell I was even a purist and wouldnt even do the manual battery.
Fourth Purchase: a Sidesho kit off of a member from here. This left me happy, and satisfied.
Fifth purchase: more 901 equipment. One manual Passthrough, one manual battery....
Sixth purchase: more sidesho equipment
Seventh purchase: The Lux, and a slew of equipment.

My point.... I have been vaping for a long time now.... no matter what we start out with (as long as it is not purchasable by a smoke shop, or kiosk), we always upgrade, and continually upgrade....

510's, 901's and 401's are great to start out with.... then you grow up. You want more, you expand. But we all have to start out small. Just like on here.... you have to earn your reputation on here, it just doesnt happen over night. You may have 500 more posts than someone who has been here for 2 years... but it is the person who has been on here for 2 years that has something to say. Simply because they dont post all the time doesnt mean they know diddly. If asked by a noob what they should buy (and I get this all the time), I tell them to get a 510, or 901. Why? Because it is a great way to start out. The 901 especially because you are not required a button to activate it. Automatic batteries are great for noobs. They ..... note I said THEY.... need to make the mental transition themselves in order to step it up a notch, and go for the manual battery. It took me nearly 2 years before I did that. We all progress in our own time.

I like the eGo (got a Buzz on order though), but if someone doesn't want the bigger size I like to suggest the 510 since it's an easy upgrade path.

I disagree on the auto vs the manual for a newbie. First there are hundreds of posts on here alone of newbies starting with a manual 510 and doing fine. Second, and more important is that auto's are less like an analog than the manuals. The unnatural way you have to double draw (starter puff) on an auto, just to get a mediocre amount of vapor is a big negative as reported by many newbies. I tell newb's that if you want it to "look" more like an analog, get a super mini model. If you want it to "feel" more like an analog when you "inhale", then get a good manual.

I have to agree with you, wv2. I have always suggested that new people get a manual, not only for the reasons you gave, but because new people might have a difficult time figuring out how to fill carts and cartos. I see a lot of posts from newbies who have overfilled their cart and flooded the atty. If they're using an auto, the juice could leak into the battery and ruin it. That's not a good way for a new person to start off.
