Hi Guys,

Thanks for all this amazingly useful posts. I just bought AGA-T2 as my first genesis style atomizer. I have run in to a problem with popping the coil the moment I have fired it up for the first time, no matter how many times I've made a coil (different techniques as well) it always popped. This was a fault of mine, not properly oxidizing the mesh... Strange thing - I've tried to oxidize on the gas oven flame firstly and it has been looking good but as I have said it has been popping. Once I have oxidized with ordinary lighter, mesh got black (which I took as a good sign - till now not sure about that) and coil I have made for a first time did not pop. Little victory here. But now I stumble upon another problem - massively dry hits... I made sure that there is no hot spots on the coil and it heats up evenly. But I can say that the performance is not so good and the dry hits ripped my throat apart. Whenever I drip once one the coil, I can take couple of decent drags, but after that it's over. Could you please point me what am I doing wrong ? Thanks in advance!

Make sure the air hole is lined up with the coil/wick. Otherwise it will be harsh. Also some things to try. Some leave filler screw off so it does not create a vacuum. Some have said to keep the wick off the bottom of the tank

Hi Sjkader,

I have tried indeed with hole lined up with the wick, and with the wick not touching the bottom of the tank - this does not have resolved an issue. I never tried with the filler screw off so I will try this tonight. Thanks for your input Sjkader!

Any other ideas / pointers ?

Thanks!

Make sure the coil is touching the wick. If even a tiny part is not touching it will heat red hot and you'll get that metallic throat rape you're describing. That sensation is typically caused by a short. When your wick is wet you shouldn't see any part of the coil turn red unless it is dry. Are you tilting your pv when you take a drag? The wick should be at the bottom of the tank when you tilt and take a drag.

Sent from my phone.

You should have a multimeter, it's almost not an option. If using the drill bit method, Ohm out the coil when it it attached to the + and - posts, then compare the value after you install the wick. If it changes you have a short.

If coils are popping on first light off, there is a direct short between your wick and coil.

I started my wicks over oxidized and did not know it, gave me bad flavor too. Try this it is like night and day.http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/311418-my-ss-wick-trick.html

What does putting those SS washers on the center post do?? (Im guessing its to lower the distance between the post to the wick am I correct?) Also what size are they/where can you buy em

Yes that is correct. It helps eliminate the top leg hot spot issue (the wire between the center post and the wick glowing) without having to lean the wick really far in to get it near the post.

The size I use is M3, you could do M2.5 as well. If you google M3 washer there are lots of places that sell them, not sure which one has the cheapest price including shipping.

Cool thanks, I'll check the local Home Depot, Lowes or Ace Hardware first, before getting raped by shipping costs online lol

Usually when facing the RBA, when the cap is turned clockwise that taste tends to become harsher, counter-clockwise it becomes smoother, closest to the wick -- best balance.

I tried this and I really couldn't tell a difference. Seemed harsher if it was offset in either direction. Seems like being directly line up with the wick/coil would give the smoothest hit because the maximum amount of air is rushing by the coil ?

Also see what ZEN says as it applies to the Z-Atty in terms of a venturi effect at 23:25:

If your RBA is set up correctly, you should notice the difference, although that difference is much more pronounced with the Z-Atty than the AGA-T2. You might be turning it a little too far, or not enough.

Seems specific to the zen. My thought process with the AGA is if you turn the air hole away from the coil/wick you are allowing heat to build up more rapidly than if the air hole was lined up directly with the coil/wick. That would cause more throat hit/harsheness versus rapid air flow past the coil keeping it cool and diluting the vapor with room air which would result in smoothness. Just IMHO

I just stumbled upon this thread but was an exact wick size ever posted? I can break out my calipers and post a size but I think something like 38mm was enough wick with maybe just a bit extra to cut off at the top.

Just have to say THANKS!!!

After reading this thread, I set-up & finished my AGA-T2 (my first genesis style atomizer).
No problems at all, worked first try, no hot spots, really working well!

400 mesh, 5 wrap 28AWG Kanthal, torch oxidized wick & wire.
Drill bit coil method, 1.8 –2.0 ohms.
Sitting on top of a well-worn Vamo.

I have been Analog free for over 2 years now, for the first time I’m getting that “First Cig in the morning buzz” now.

Thank you all for all the info!

Im in the same boat as you, just finished setting up my AGA-T2 for the first time, had no problems except a small little hotspot problem that was fixed quickly.

Are you sure that is not 32g? A 28g 4/5 wrap is under 1Ω unless you wrapped your coil around a big pencil.
