My inner geek loves this hobby! :vapor:

Yeah ditto. It is a blast.

You are correct with the point IR radiometer. They are super inaccurate, mainly due to the fact that most of them cannot adjust for emissivity. I can make something that is 300C look like it is 100C or 500C just with a simple setting. I would also think that +/- 1% is a misrepresentation by the manufacturer for accuracy. High end units are +/- 2% usually. I have never personally seen a +/- 1% unit, although I am sure the military has them.

This is why I always got a kick out of the news when they showed people being tested at the border for different animal based flu viruses. Human body is 98.6. So even with a high end unit they are looking at 96.628 to 100.572 with the imaging system on a human that has the ideal body temp. Someone that sold those imagers did one heck of a sales pitch or the people that bought them already knew this and just wanted to make everyone feel safe.

So, thinking about how I always go to my favorite magic wrap I decided I needed to mix it up.

Monkey's recent pancake made me hungry for pancakes so......

.9 ohm magic twisted ribbon canted pancake in front of cotton on Reo Grand RM2.

Boy was that difficult and I didn't get it flat and touching to my liking after screwing with it for an hour.
Get it perfect, torch and quench, it moves while installing, repeat, repeat, good install but hot spots, dink with, coils go out of line or separate, repeat, etc.........

Odd vape for magic; more vapor, vapor seems denser, high notes are down some, low notes up some, little hotter than same ohm solenoid style coil.

Not half bad so I am going to leave it in for work tomorrow and see what happens.

So what is the verdict on the hemp + MM? Compared to cotton... Is there any funky taste (assuming you've prepped it as previously explained)? Is there a "break-in"? how often does it need to be changed?

Using cotton on the catfish, I honestly can't tell you the last time I scorched a wick, so I am looking for something beyond the heat resistance to sell me on this stuff.

The flavor tweak of this hemp is more of a subdued richer/darker tweak on the original juice flavor, not really an added hemp taste. Whereas cotton for me seems to add more of a sharp lighter tweak and almost tastes as if its about to scorch at any time (but usually doesn't).

I have about 4 to 5 tanks on my Taifun GT (5ml tank) with the same hemp wick and micro coil and it is still performing great. It is more consistent than cotton in my opinion, cotton seems to come and go (both flavor and vapor) and not last nearly as long.

Its working for me. No break-in period. No funky taste.

I currently have five atties with this hemp wick, (Reo, KFL, Taifun GT, two drippers; one with the Magic wire) they are all performing great. Right now, I am soley vaping the MM wire dripper and its rockin. I only have this and the others wicked for a day so I cant comment on LT performance. I see no reason why they would last as long as cotton.

XOBO...Just to put out some background on this. I have tried a lot of different hemp wick materials. I didnt like any of them. The hemp always wicked well, but changed the taste of a peppermint juice I use. It gave it a slight woody undertone (which by the way can be complimentary to tobacco flavors). This stuff has no woody taste. I did notice that it is slightly less bright on menthol as cotton is. So, like any wick material, it may change the flavor profile of your ejuice. YMMV

The higher heat resistance is just an added plus, but it does vapes more evenly, holds more juice and maintain wick structure better than cotton.

I like cotton, but overall performance is just better, IMHO. Its worth a try to decide for yourself

Pics or it didnt happen....;)

lol.....ok....ok....but you Reo snobs can't make fun of my Vision aurora bft (even if it is modded for 510 connection and blind squonking) :D.....Or my awful picture.....or that I just noticed the end coils are a little looser than the middle coils.....or anything else

Since the Cyclone feed isn't right at the bottom to suck the juice back (that will change soon) I put a little hemp in the back to soak up excess juice.

Made a wickless set up to try something different.
Middle hole lined up with air hole.
.9 ohms magic wrapped on a slightly smaller than 1/16 then expanded to 1/16 ID.

Get 2 of my regular 1-1/2 to 2 second vapes before I squonk again.
Great TH, medium flavor, slightly low vapor (compared to my normal micro cotton magic)

Tried some cotton around it which dropped TH and raised flavor some.

Between this, the Canted Pancake, and the Loch Ness Monster, the Canted Pancake was the best.

But none of those better than standard cotton micro.

lemme just ax you all this question. I'm finding that the magic has a shorter and more pronounced life span than reg'lar wair. Thank the lo'dy that's the case; cause if it didn't need the occasional fresh coil built, I'd have pretty much nothing to do. I'm not used to spinning new coils out of necessity, so I'm not a good judge of this. Anyone else find that this stuff has a shorter life span? (or, at least, a more obvious obsolescence?)

I've been using pretty much this wire exclusively with the poo for a while now.

I can't say I've had to replace it. I do dry-burn it now and again to clean the doodie residue off of it, but it goes right back to a shiny look. I'm sitting on about 2 weeks on this one coil. I'm tempted to yank it and rebuild just to see if there is a notable difference.

Well, it does do well with a good dryburn. But I went ahead and replaced a couple of 1-2 week old coils last night, and I think it made a big difference. But, it's feeling rather subjective . . . . . that's why I was asking. I could easily imagine that all those thin surfaces would suffer more readily than that of a standard wire.
