Good evening all!

So I did a double twisted MM for my kayfun and I got this:

4/5 wraps, 1.1 ohms. Powering it at 15watts on a kicked nemesis. It's glorious.

Your kayfun, KFL to be more precise, got my attention. Was the screw mounting something that a mere mortal could do? I really love my KFL, but have hesitated to try the magic, because I thought installation would be more pain than I could handle.

And how do you wick something like that? Is it not like wicking a chainsaw or some sort of medieval torture device?

Ah. So the thing is, the MM I did was double stranded instead of triple stranded, so it wasn't as thick.

The other thing I did before mounting was to squeeze the leads and flatten em a tad. It makes it easier to catch em under the screw.

It's def possible. Takes a tad more time, but it's alright now!

ETA: ah wicking was def a little more difficult. But I just made sure I twist my cotton tighten then I usually would so that i could pull it across easily.

Ah. I'll be rebuilding one of my kfl with MM on a vertical build tonight. Will try to show some pictures.

I've generally been using double 32ga twisted and it looks like this

I suppose it wouldn't be too different using a MM, but I'll try and report back

Well. so a full day has passed.

I guess my verdict is that for my personal preference (i like warm-very warm and dense vapes), the MM works a lot better if you're at a mid sub-ohm or a high wattage set up.

On a 0.6 ohms with a 0.2 voltage drop, I get a terrific vape right until I'm at the 3.5V-ish.

wrapping up to 1 - 1.2 ohms, (5 - 6 wraps on a double twisted MM), even at 15 watts I found the vape to be, well, room temperature. it's neither warm nor cool. coil also takes a long time to heat up, which isnt surprising given the sheer mass per length of the MM wires. The flavor is still terrific, but it doesnt quite have the density or warmth that makes me feel all woozy and warm inside. Just personally, my double and triple 32ga twisted wires are giving me a warmer and denser vape than the MM. Not much to say about throathit or vapor production; I don't really care too much for either and i would choose flavor other those 2 any day.

Also found that wicking in a kayfun can't really keep up with the coil above 18 watts. Which has got me looking at getting a solid RDA now; I've got a ZNA30 coming on wednesday, and I wanna see how a MM performs between 18 and 25 watts on a RDA. yup!

For me 23 Watts to 25 Watts is about right on a VW anywhere in a range of .6 ohm to .8 ohm. Course that is not surprising considering that I fine tuned it originally for a mech and I like .7 ohms to .8 ohms. pdib likes his a little hotter between 30 Watts to 36 Watts. I have tried a 4 twist and didn't like it, but I haven't tried a 2 twist. It really likes to be saturated but that is not a problem for me since I am a bottom feeder kind of guy.

hey Alex... ima little off topic here!! But i know your an electrical man & you'd be able to point me in the right direction

Ive been looking at upgrading my nail clippers for 'Flush cutters' Flush Cutters | eBay

Not specifically the £1.99 jobs! I know you get what you pay for but i cant afford to buy top of the range things

After having a look and a read i see that for our use we really need to get the ones for memory wire, steel wire
not the cutters for soft wire? But surely even if i bought a couplea pairs of cheapo's they would be far superior
to nail clippers, i mean ive been using clippers for 6 months and the one pair i use for wire even the 26g or MM
are only just starting to lose performance :2cool:

thanks AL:)

Don't really know what to tell you since I use top of the line tools in my work (can't afford not to with the abuse they are given) and of course a pair of work snips somehow ended up on my desk. They are Fiskars Industrial 9485 DataComm snips, but I just went to look them up for you and they are discontinued. Besides that, IIRC they were around $40 when I got them. I would probably check out the Klein flush cutter (I don't have personal experience with it, but Klein is a top notch brand). Klein Tools - Lightweight Flush Cutter I am going to the supply house in the morning, so let me see if they have a pair so I can check them out.

I've abused a pair of Sandvik Lindstrom 8140 side cutters for well over 20 years. These cutters get used for all sorts of things proper and improper. The other day I grabbed one off my bench top to snip off the end of a cotton wick. Of course not the typical tool I pick for that job though it surprised me that it made a perfectly smooth nice snip (no pull etc...)! Certain really good tools can be a better deal long term and oh so nice to use. Harbor Freight is great for some things but for side cutters be selective :)
