Unfortunately my DNA40 started to malfunction and I was getting the screen lockup.
And of course I broke the screen removing it.
(Daddy always said I was a disaster waiting for a place to happen!)
It is on it's way back to Evolv.
But I can still experiment with the equipment I have on hand.:)

I made another test piece of HMM with 1MM X 0.01MM Kanthal Ribbon and 32G NI200.
Had to weight the Ribbon and NI200 separately.
If not the NI200 would pop out of the folds as the ribbon got shorter.
That was quite the task, but I persevered.
Too much mass for the resistance which will be too low for the DNA40, but not for the Dlynx. :p
I did however get the best taste I ever have achieved with my Keylime and this combo! :hubba: :hubba: :hubba:
Got to get some 34G NI200!

Mundy would this work with just regular kanthal? Say a twisted 28 gauge kanthal, than twist a 28 gauge nichrome over that? Or perhaps a higher gauge kanthal to up the difference in ohms per foot?

Of course it would be you who figures out how to work this stuff out- evolv should hire you as a consultant. Only question I have is will all that wire degradation and pitting still occur, or not

Needs the NI200 (Maybe Titanium although that would be pushing it) to work on the DNA40 in temp mode. I can't experiment more till I get my board back from Evolv. Didn't have but a few hours on it before it started the screen lock thing. Not buying another in the mean time since no one I have contacted with the board in stock knows if I will get the latest board or not. Seems (or so I have been told) Evolve doesn't keep track of inventory or do a FIFO or LIFO system or code a version number in it. I really like the idea of temp control and seemed to give good results in the short time I had it, but it seems they rushed this way too much and also didn't do the simple low tech tracking of boards so they are caught with their pants down. Some will frown on that remark and I know Evolv will make it good in the long run, but 1 out of 10 or 1 out of 20 doesn't mean a lot when a vaper can only financially justify getting 1 board for testing it out and it turns out to be 1 out of 1.

Should, but at what point the percentage of resistance from the Kanthal vs. from the NI200 becomes too much for the coding to allow temp mode I can't tell you. I would hazard a guess that it would work with 1 of each of the same gauge which would be about mathematically equivalent to what I did with it. Trying it is the only sure fire way to know without in depth knowledge of the software routines and even that might not let a person know what will happen in the real world as I have found out many times over the years with electronics both digital and analog.

BTW, actually got the time to peruse the forum last night and clear the huge list of subscribed threads I haven't had time to look at due to massive amount of work and it appears that multiple people are using 1 on 1 gauge round NI200 and Kanthal, so there's your real world answer. (At least to that percentage) This temp thing is the first exciting thing for me in the vaping world in a while since I love to tinker and figure out stuff, but I am being left out of the fun due to lack of chip and time. Dang, speaking of time I thought I had this weekend mostly free but just got a text while typing this and looks like I will have to work more of it than I thought.

I'm way late to this party, but after I received a piece of MM wire in a trade deal and worked past the hesitation to try it, my mind has been blown. Mr Mundy, thank you.
I've watched your videos several times and have read through this entire thread at least twice. So much great info and all of the collaboration is phenomenal.
Ordered my ribbon from eBay and received it a couple of days ago, took me around 10' to get the hang of it but finally I've landed on what I consider to be a success:

I did finish the counter-twist with a drill, but used my fingers to control the twist on the other end.
I'm so flabbergasted by this wire that I can't say enough good things about it. Many thanks to you and the rest of the innovative modders who make this hobby extra fun for guys like me. I will continue to spread the word far and wide!

That looks great, I just tried it for the first as well. However, I think I was over twisting the wire(s) with the electric drill. Ran through a 50 ft roll, but the very last one looks pretty good. Put one of the first ugly ones in the nuppin' and it's amazing. Ordered up another 50 ft roll now that I think I have it down.

Thanks Mr. Mundy, looking forward to the nickel experiments.

man mundy I feel your pain, out of 6 dna40's I have one good one :( I've been holding off on sending them back in hopes of the smoke clearing and getting a latest revision returned, now with the holidays coming I may not even send them back till after the new year, i hate shipping anything around this time of year
