What a lot of folks do NOT understand is that by the time you TASTE the burnt, you have already inhaled burnt filler. It starts at the inner filler next to the atty. You don't taste it right away. I think it is a HUGE elephant in the living room.

As far as the 510, Cignots are fabulous. Great service.

I simply ordered some 901 attys to use on my kr808 batteries, along with some 901 carts. Cheapest way to get off the kr8 carts until I can afford an eGo/tornado.
Good luck to you!!

Did you order the attys and carts from Cignots too?

Ahhhhhh!

I REALLY wish I would have found this thread a couple of days ago, before I placed an order for about 100 empty cartomizers. Grrr... I ordered a bulk order because I wanted to purchase items that were not covered in tacky logos, and get them with free shipping.

Anyway, still very new to the e-cigarette world and using a KR808. The prefilled carts my husband and I received tasted awful, they made me feel like I had taken a drink of my perfume. We also ordered some kamel juice, which was tolerable and what we used until our liquids from other suppliers came in.

I love the flavors in the JC juice, but found that it made my carts taste burnt very quickly. TW juice was also pretty tasty, but I ordered in all in PG which I have since found makes me feel terrible.

My search for a way to tell when the cartomizer needs to be thrown away has brought me here, after dismantling all that I had on hand I am more than a little bit concerned. The dark JC flavors were burnt the worst, but all of them had a bit of crispy fried filling going on.

I would also like to mention that I was told be the supplier of my original purchase that the sore throat feeling and extreme dry mouth I was experiencing are the result of detox from the poisons of cigarettes, rather than a sensitivity to PG. I can't help but wonder now if the problem is caused by sucking on burnt poly fill. Ugh.

No, they only carry 510 stuff, I think. I got mine from Litecig. He has a great reputation and I have dealt with him in the past. Shipping was free. I ordered 4 attys and 2 packs of cartridges for $37. Can use my kr8 batteries and I already have juice.

That is really something I don't have a definitive answer for.
I DO know that burnt inhaling poly fiber can cause the following:

    1.Irritation of upper respiratory tract
2.Mechanical irritation of digestive tract (which I am currently suffering from)

Poly fibers are safe in most situations. UNTIL it burns.

I won't waste anyones time rehashing what we all know.....just giving my own potential solution.
Nhaler.com sells Greencig products. They are a relative of the KR808D-1. Two piece design but a dramatically different cartomizer. There are excellent autopsy photos at the "other" forum but I refuse to post the link since they are everything we strive sucessfully not to be :) But you can Google it yourself....greencig cartomizer.

So...I am buying the adapter for $9 that will allow me to use the Greencig cartos with all my existing KR8 equipment. And for $15 one box of Greencig carts. NO they don't make/sell blank cartos. NO they don't come any stronger than 15mg. YES you can refill them once you have vaped them dry. AND according to all the reviews I have read you really can vape them dry without them burning up like the regular cartos.

Here is the link to a thread with several posts from trusted ECF guru's and a video about Greencig cart mods:
    http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/where-can-i-get/57859-blank-greencig-cartomizers.html

I will edit this post after I have recieved and tried the products. But I have faith in Drew and am fully expecting a positive outcome. I hope this helps you all.

PS...Note to ALL KR808D-1 suppliers.......Clearly there is a flaw in this design. Get it fixed before the FDA does it for you. Drew....Leaford....your the men with the muscle....can't you do something about this??????? I know you can't post here but I will start a thread a the suppliers forum so you can.

    Greencigs are definitely an option.
    Your P.S. SAYS IT ALL!!!
Good luck, as I started a thread there (V4L), NOT Nhaler, and it got closed after I got belittled for addressing the problem.

I'm not sure how all that works but they both have posts in this sub-forum already, from as recently as mid January of this year. So maybe you can try after all to get them over here. :)

I almost feel bad feeling like I caused some kind of huge alarming controversy here. I just thought I was doing something wrong and causing a condition in which i felt was harmful. It was only until I was literally attacked by another member here and then many others chimed in that I realized it has been a known and ongoing issue. An issue that is obviously very, very important. Important eneough that I am abandoning my cartomizers. I will also let new members know about my experiences, and talk them away from cartomizers. If I hadn't been belittled by some forum members, i would not feel so strongly about this now. I would have just let it go a long time ago and just switched quietly over to a 901 or another atomizer mod product. I never tried a green-cig cartomizer but from all accounts, they sound like they hold some promise and are safer. I can't believe another member had been treating me like.....a grade school student or an oppsing member in a debate team with all of the Soctratarial (if that is a word) ranting. Like I stated before, you know who you are and you are definitely too smart for your britches. I want to see more burned carto pics and i want to hear more stories. I want all of you who know these cartomizers are dangerously problamatic to discuss it with the other members of this forum. I feel good that i got nearly a dozen people so far to quit smoking and start vaping. But I feel bad that I got them started on cartomizers. What did I know ? Well. one guy is now on his first mod, and now I must lower my head and let them all know why they need to switch their products and their supplier. Once I get going on my 901, I'll show them it can be done. I kinda feel bad for a certain supplier though. Thats a dozen people who won't be buying from them anymore.

Here ya go.....and do NOT feel bad. I too gave up on this because of the same company and the same people you are talking about. I give you much credit for having the guts and fortitude to keep going on this issue.

oh...btw....this is one of the "new Premium" carts. I also got flamed trying to address this problem. So again...thank you.

btw.....this is NOT company specific. It is simply that this particular company and their rabid fanclub have made it very difficult to try and deal with a real industry wide problem. I want to repeat...this happens to ALL cartomizers....not just the one pictured.

Thank you for sharing your experience also. There are many of us having this problem. We cannot allow it to get shoved aside yet once again.
People must stay in touch about this issue.
We will not judge you, trust me.

    I almost feel bad [...]

I DO feel stoopid... for not even having known about this problem when you first started this thread. And as mentioned after Michelle43 posted her pics, my only reference point back then was that from the cap-off angle, my cartos have been looking fine (now I'm thinking maybe because I'm almost always using an adapter that adds much airiness, and fwiw, light colored juices only; no exotic mixes; pretty low nic...), whereas from that same outside angle on all of yours, major widespread char could already be seen. Had never heard of such a thing (nor internal-only cases yet!). Sounds like it's probably the most extreme kind there is.

So, mea culpa! :( But as I imagine you could tell, I never didn't believe you, and genuinely did want to help (or more accurately, 'encourage until real help arrived' lol). Thought surely it would turn out to be something mysterious but very specific, like 'incendiary' or otherwise ungood juice or something. (Later you mentioned your mainstay and I recalled having read that recent batches of it weren't cured or aged or whatever as long as before; and also the factoid that the tobacco flavor isn't concentrated like the others and is therefore thinner, so thought, who knows...) Well anyway! Glad you hung in there, and er, um, hey at least I got the 'intermediate' suggestion about trying 901 atties on your existing KR8 batts right, right?? :p

What a nice post. And, yes, they do look fine just looking inside. It is only when you take them apart that you can see the problem. This really is a bigger problem than is being told. I only hope it will somehow get solved and allow us to trust that the suppliers are looking out for our best interests and not just their bottom line.

i dissected a couple of the cartomizers. the polyfill didn't seemed burned in the ones i checked, but both of them had burned wicks. the atomizer is nothing more than a wire like a light bulb, running through a 1/8" of large wick, running through 1/2" of small wick, sometimes wrapped with a high density poy-fill, and wrapped with a loose poly-fill. the popping sound i hear is probably the smaller wick getting fried. all the materials look like they were randomly cut with scissors and wrapped by hand.

i also dissected the battery whose vacuum switch went bad after a day of use. the pieces don't fit well and the bottom connector uses a really wierd piece of metal bent over and protected from the outer ground with a piece of tape. it looks like it was assembled by slave labor (like from indonesia). it is made a lot like how the switches in flashlights are made. i'm surprised 90% of them work.

i'm thinking i might be easier to carry juice and a 901 atomizer/cart than deal with cartomizer issues of condoms, .... plugs, waiting for juice to settle, and having several of them to manage. these cartomizers taste awful to me, but it could be just that i'm having to hit a lot of nicotine and pg is drying my throat. i also get annoyed by all the noise the cartomizers make, along with the occassional gurgle, crackle, and pop.

the cartomizers and carts for the 3-piece models seem to all suffer from this problem, leaving people to mod the 3-piece carts with blue foam or the lipton stuff, and leaving the cartomizer peeps with no ability to mod. maybe the green cartomizers don't have this problem and maybe the american companies need to put the pressure on the chinese to change their material to something that doesn't fry or the american companies need to take over the business of making carts and cartomizers which work well.

i already wasted a good bit on buying cartomizers and autos. i need to buy manuals and either go with the green cig cartomizers or go with the 901 atty/cart and modify the carts with blue foam or the lipton stuff. if i can get my taste buds back, i'll try a "kamel" or m'boro" since i found out the kamel menthol actually tastes like tobacco underneath all the menthol.

i'm going to go back to analogs until spring when i can afford to send more cash to china.

I've never noticed a burned carto before, but I rarely refill, so I don't really see inside my cartos often. Tomorrow I'm going to check into some of my carts to see what's goin on. I deff want to see if my carts look like some of the pictures on here.

I guess I could be considered part of the "family" you all seem to be annoyed with but, but I can agree that this is a very legitimate concern.

All I can really say is--this is a new technology, there is not 1 supplier out there that has it 100% golden yet. It will take time and patience, but I think we can all agree we see the obvious health improvements. Based on that alone, we can come to the conclusion this is the healthier alternative compared to traditional cigarettes.

I ripped apart a carto after just 1 day of use, topping off probably a LOT more than I needed to (I'm a dripper with my 510) and it was burnt through. I see this as a big problem.
Unfortunately, I don't see why any vendors will worry about this or complain to their suppliers until they know for a fact that they won't be out of business in the near future.
