I am unable to substantiate the OP's claim in this sign .. I believe it is doubtful that there is actually a sign like this in a Chillis in or around Bradenton, FL ..

But, in the end, the people speak with their wallets, and I'm hoping vapers would not choose to spend their money in a business with that particular sign on the door.

The problem with the "speak with your wallet" approach is that minority interest is excluded entirely. We, as vapers, are in the minority here. We simply don't have a wallet big enough to make a difference to the Chili's, Wal Marts or Starbucks of the world. That's the great promise of American Democracy. The majority doesn't always rule and not everything is up for a vote. Minority rights are supposed to be protected with the same vigor as those of the the majority. Unregulated capitalism holds no such promise.

No we do t have a big enough wallet to effect their business, but the great thing about capitalism is that we don't have to. We will never have enough of an impact to change their policy, but we can choose to patronize their competitors. We can get the same type of products in a vape friendly environment.

You're missing the point: do they OWN the 50 ft of sidewalk? It they don't, then it's NOT their property. And if there's NO ordinance, this equals to a private business trying to make up laws to be applied in a PUBLIC space. Just 'because'!!

The 'cry babies' were the ones who FOUGHT, and WON, the tried e-cig medicalization in Europe, in the last 08th October! One thing is being a 'cry baby', another thing is FIGHTING against insane laws, with a (not so) covert economical interest, that will take away from you some reasonable liberties, without a glimpse of evidence of harm!!

Do you have any PROPER, scientific studies, to show us the 'dangers' of second-hand vapour... OUT IN THE OPEN? Or even for SHS?

Do you know who get's fined if the anti tobacco law is broken? Typically the business owner. Just food for thought. Since vaping is kinda out there at the moment, do a what if. What if the state decides yes it is a tobacco product and will enforce the fine on previous violations. I can businesses are trying to protect themselves. In Ohio here are the fines...

Of course we have no studies on the effects of second hand vapor. It has been around for 30+ years. Heck we really don't have the studies, except a small few, on first hand vaping.

What are the penalties for violating the smoking ban?

Businesses: Warning letter, first violation; $100, second violation; $500, third violation; $1,000, fourth violation; and $2,500, fifth and subsequent violations. Note: fines may be doubled for intentional violations at the discretion of the enforcement entity and may be assessed on a daily basis for continuing violations.

Individuals: Warning letter; first violation; $100, second and subsequent violations.

Retaliation against Complainant: Warning letter, first violation; $1,000, second violation; $2,500 third and subsequent violations.

What anti-tobacco law is being broken?

If no law is being broken then what exactly is your point?

Did you fact check that claim?

New E-cigarette Study Shows No Risk from Environmental Vapor Exposure -- NEW YORK, Oct. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Secondhand Exposure to Vapors From Electronic Cigarettes

Study Documents Secondhand Exposure to Nicotine from Electronic Cigarette Vapor

There are more. In fact I've found at least 6 different university studies that all came to the same conclusion. There is nicotine in 2nd hand vapor, but nothing else harmful has been found.

Ummm the sign on the door that states no vaping. In my state, it is against the law. I am sorry I do not know the laws in every 50- state. I am assuming similar laws. My point was what I wrote. I did not stutter. I may have misspelled a word or two.

Okay you got me. It should be hasn't been around. I did not type the 't. A client walked into my office. Yes. I am absolutely sure since vaping started around 2006? I'll give you year 2000. 30 years from then in 2030. Last I checked this is 2014.

From your links.... Most (see I do it too) of the studies all follow with this.

"More research is needed to evaluate health consequences of secondhand exposure to nicotine, especially among vulnerable populations, including children, pregnant women, and people with cardiovascular conditions. "

What anti-tobacco law has been broken? What is the first line? The sign is ment to show that smoking is prohibited by law in the area, the company just decided for whatever reason that e-cigs are under the same category. My guess is because to a casual observer they look the same. The company is just trying to cover their own ... in case someone reports a violation forcing the company to pay a fine. Their not trying to bash vapers, they are just trying to cover themselves legally.

Well that’s just one place that the owners don’t want people blowing clouds everywhere and it’s there property so I’d say fair enough, and you can sneak an occasional stealh vape or go to the bathroom:

It’s a loss people can’t vape there but if that’s a restaurant and you can go and have a nice drink, chat with friends/family and eat some nice food then isn't that enough?

OK, that sign is real and in place!!!

I would have exited my truck had there not been a gray out down pour/close lightening strikes with local tornado warnings. I didn't want to swim up to da door to get a pic that most of ya'll really don't GAS about. So ya'll go ahead and spout off if it makes ya 'feel' better/superior!

BTW, I'm ugly and an American. Been 'round dis globe over two times (USAF retired, '65 - '85). Da worst treatment I've ever received has been right here at home in da good ol' US of A. So fer all da scat stirrers

First off they can not fine you, and the police can only fine you if its illegal in that area.
Second the sign says "vapor cigarettes", so just take a mod in and call it a personal vaporizer (worse they can do is tell you you can't use it in the restaurant, or they may ask you to leave)

...

Thank You Iffy.

Because I want to write Chili's Corporate Office and ask them what State, County or City Ordination/Code I would be in Violation of if I used an e-Cigarette within 50 Feet of the Sign on that Door.

And I didn't want to get a letter back saying that there was No Sign on that Door.

BTW - Do you go to the one on 1st Street or the one on Exchange Way?

I've only been to da one on 1st Street. But that's history now!

Had da weather been cooperative, I would have kindly queried da manager as to da policy. At dis point, couldn't GAS...

Again fer dose dat didn't want to actually read all da posts up to dis point:

There is no vaping ban in da state/county/city. Dat 'fine' statement is total BS!

Actually, I openly vaped at bar of my fav tavern/grill dis evening while waiting fer my takeout.

I think this is the sign of things to come.

And it has in the dear City of Angels. No vaping anywhere smoking isn't allowed -- and that does includes parks and the beach and something like 50 feet from the entrance of any public building, storefront, bar, etc. I guess they just want to promote their state sponsored medical herbs as I know of no such ban on them.

I just think Chili's got lazy and didn't care about the technical legality of the sign. Tsk Tsk

Also, I think it might be good for all ECFers to read this. Dr. Konstantinos has done several studies on e-cigs and nicotine that are quite interesting and useful.

That is what I would like them to Explain to Me.

Why they have a Sign on their Door Saying that I can be Fined for Using an e-Cigarette with 50' of their Entrance.

It says you can be fined for smoking. They just threw in "vapor cigarettes" as an afterthought.

Here is another possibility for you. Ever wonder why bottled water has an expiration date? The state of California passed a law that required all manufactured beverages have an expiration date no longer than 2 years. Producers found it cheaper to stamp all of their bottles instead of just the ones going to California.

In virtually all states there are laws prohibiting smoking in privat businesses, in some cities pv's ate considered the same. It could be that the company just found it cheaper to post the same sign on all locations than to have a different sign for those few cities. Just a thought.
