@stevegmu:

Now now.... one should be familiar with standard terms such as "The ugly American", especially if one likes to vacation abroad and then one refers to those countries as "a bizarro world".

I generally like Americans, and I have known quite a few Americans personally, I have also lived in the States and I liked it very much.

But rude, overbearing behavior is not generally well received. Especially abroad.

sigh, I really hate that Americans are perceived this way,,,,,,not much I can do about it (being a single entity) except to behave in a way that negates that,,,,,

but I ran into people who expected me to behave like an ugly American many times while in Europe,,,,,,it's really sad, though,,,,,,,,we earned that title.

Honestly....with sub-ohm vaping gaining a popularity, and more and more people cloud chasing and blowing HUGE plumes of vapor in public....it shouldn't surprise anyone one bit that more and more establishments are going to ban vaping.

I'm not against cloud chasing at all, but I'm also not against businesses choosing what they allow, or don't allow, on their own property.

Heck, if a business posts a sign saying "MUST WEAR BLUE SHIRTS ONLY", that is THEIR imperative...and there is nothing wrong with that, aside from the fact that it will obviously kill their business from lack of customers.

vaping is relatively new (5 years, give or take), and it looks very similar to smoking, so it is understandable that establishments might not want people to vape in front of/in their stores. Add sub-ohm vaping and mods that look like bricks to the mix, and it just adds fuel to the fire.

couldn't agree more, and i do sub-ohm drip except when driving. i am also very conscious of where people are in relation to my exhale. at work i stand where i know my vapor won't annoy other vapers and the few analog smokers left in our break area (outside). i also wouldn't ever do it inside a restaurant. if eating out i generally choose a place with outside seating where smoking is permitted or simply wait til i leave. we simply don't need the negative attention.

I agree business's have the right to say no. My college just passed a no vapor policy alot of it had to do with cloud chasers and big rolls of vapor in halls. I personally do not care for a lot of vapor. If i wanted to blow smoke rings and irritate my lungs i would not have quit smoking. Even walking into a local vapor shop there were a couple of guys trying to impress the owners by blowing these large rolls of clouds. idk what juice they had but it was like walking into a smokey pool hall both me and my wife at to leave it was so irritating.

just my 2 cents...

There has always been, it seems, resentment towards those of a certain nation that have expended enormous amounts of blood and treasure for other nations. Human nature I suppose.
In other news it would seem Europe has gotten itself into another pickle with the Putin Adventures. I guess that will be another problem for the Ugly American to solve. Again.
I guess rude, overbearing people come in handy sometimes.

Exactly.
If the "within 50 feet of the entrance" is on their private property, they can prohibit it.

Yes, but they can't "fine" you. The authorities could if it were an ordinance.

That doesn't look like an official sign though.

One has to wonder what's going on there.

I work in a restaurant & one time about 30 people came in ( some kind of vape club) & all 30 of them started vaping, cloud chasers every last one of them & proceeded to fill the entire restaurant with vapor. People like that will ruin it for everyone else cuz of their jack buttness. With great vaping comes great responsibility. Just cuz u don't smoke doesn't mean u can be an elohssa

its discrimination at the very least idk bout racism we aren't our own race

Well, try this then: take some of the more 'colourful', insane, and disrespectul statements rabid ANTZ's make about smokers, replace 'smokers' for anything you like (well, DONT like, actually...) and see what kind of statement you get in the end...!

Of course we are not 'our own race'... that was not the point. The point is, smokers have since long been treated as if they WERE an inferior 'race' of their own. The same is now being apllied to vapers, by association.

Their company, their rules and its not even that bad. To many vapors seem to be real cry babies about not being able to vape anywhere they please.

You're missing the point: do they OWN the 50 ft of sidewalk? It they don't, then it's NOT their property. And if there's NO ordinance, this equals to a private business trying to make up laws to be applied in a PUBLIC space. Just 'because'!!

The 'cry babies' were the ones who FOUGHT, and WON, the tried e-cig medicalization in Europe, in the last 08th October! One thing is being a 'cry baby', another thing is FIGHTING against insane laws, with a (not so) covert economical interest, that will take away from you some reasonable liberties, without a glimpse of evidence of harm!!

Do you have any PROPER, scientific studies, to show us the 'dangers' of second-hand vapour... OUT IN THE OPEN? Or even for SHS?

That's not what's going to ruin it. What's going to ruin it is the manager of said restaurant not willing to do their job and tell the 30 cloud chasers to stop or leave, instead opting to lobby for a law because they're worried if they say something they'll lose business but if they can blame it on the government they won't. Problem is the smoking ban already showed that they'll lose business no matter who enacts the ban.

So...looks like the topic in this thread is finished ?

yea it is it kinda went the opposite way...intentions were to make it clear to people such laws don't exist yet and not to feel like we are in the same category as smokers (atleast yet..) but judging from some of the comments its only a matter of time before we have such laws implemented because of the groups of people going to places and cloud chasing.

I'm inclined to say not merely association. We are the same group of people they've been pushing around for 30 years. The same individuals, and for that reason - whether it's true or not - it feels personal. They tell us stop smoking, stop smoking, it smells, it's killing everyone, it leaves butts on the ground - on and on... we find something else that meets all THEIR requirements and now what? More of the same.

My personal philosophy is if someone doesn't want me around, they can't have me around. They can find someone else to buy their goods, I simply fail to participate in their bans or merchandise or whatever it is they're pushing.

Oppa Gandhi Style!! :rickroll:

I vape all day and all night, the only time I don't is when I sleep. When I'm out I don't go out of my way to let everyone know what I'm doing, I just figure it's better off not drawing too much attention to it.

Everyone hates cigarette smoke anymore, eventually there will be none, it will become so limited in getting cigarettes and cost prohibitive that one won't be able to smoke. As it is now the masses see vapor coming out of a person and correlate that to something they don't like, cigarettes.

Education and not shoving this on people is what we want...I believe...

I can vape inside of stores and restaurants without drawing anyone's attention. It only seems to bother some people when they see the vapor...usually if they don't see the vapor they believe someone has sprayed an air freshener or something! :)

Bottom line is that it's their establishment and they can call the shots on what takes place within...

That is exactly right. They do not own the sidewalk, and cannot enforce any rules outside their front door. Claiming that they can and making up laws is illegal.

Whereas the "it's private property and they can set whatever rules" meme may be applicable to some situations, a line should be drawn against rules which are arbitrary and capricious, or otherwise demeaning or discriminatory. How would you feel if an establishment put up a sign that said "No women within 50ft of the entrance - Violators subject to fine"?

But, in the end, the people speak with their wallets, and I'm hoping vapers would not choose to spend their money in a business with that particular sign on the door.

I don't think the OP knew the can of worms he was opening when starting this thread. lmao
There's gonna be lots more similar signs popping up. The biggest thing I think any of us have going for us is education in vaping. The more people understand about what it really is the less likely they are going to be so against it. It's not all necessarily about negativity or ANTZ.
It' about image, perception, going with the flow and imo, mostly ignorance.

lol i had no idea it would blow up like this.... nuts i tell ya
