Here are my tips for getting the smell out:

1. Put a bowl of distilled white vinegar in every room. Leave it there until it evaps. Vinegar smells nasty, but it will absorb all the smoke odors after one week or when it evaporates.

Another tip I've heard is to saturate a washcloth with mouth wash and leave it in the sink to dry.

Hey Kevin,
Welcome to the last forum you'll ever need. I've only been here and vaping for 2 weeks, and I've broken a 33 year old smoking habit. I started when I was 16 and didn't stop till my first PV came in. I cut down slowly over the last 2 weeks. Today is only my 4th day of being smoke free. YOU CAN DO THIS and we're all here to help you. The people on this board are fantastic!!!

Kevin,
Reading your story reminds me so much of me.I've been thinking a lot lately about how I use to buy cigars (Tijuana Smalls) at the store across the street from the bus stop, the walk home smoking them.I was still in elementary school, don't remember what grade.I was a daily smoker throughout high school,we had a smoking area then and always had to burn one between classes. For the last 30 years,I was a 3 pack a day smoker,I and can attest to the fact that it's a tough addiction to kick.
In about one month,it will be a year since if found out I had single cell lung cancer.I smoked all through out chemo and radiation therapy.
e-cigs are the only thing that got me off the butts.I used them and analogs for about the last 3-4 months of smoking, the just decided it was time to give them up.
The doctors never said smoking caused my cancer, and I never ask.Figured it didn't really matter if they did,but no doubt was the cause.
I had a CT scan 3 weeks ago and appear to be cancer free. The last on before showed a little scar tissue, this past one nothing.
It's been not quite a year since I had to start on chemo,I'm just within the last couple months feeling normal again. It's a brutal experience I don't wish on anyone.
So stick with it,you can do it ! And best of luck to you.......Kent

So many wonderful suggestions so far but I would like to add one thing. When you light a cigarette, vape at the same time....one puff of each. When I first received my ecig, I used this method for 2 weeks. Over that period of time I noticed that I smoked less and vaped more. One morning I woke up, took one puff of a cig and then promptly put it out. Since then I have never looked back.....1yr 3 months cigarette free.

This is so much wonderful advice here and I am happy to see there is someone close to help you out.

My mother and I started at the same time. Of course we have the woe-is-me story about where we bought our first kits. Two ultimate kits, and it took both of them to keep me with enough working batteries and chargers to keep me off analogs. My heath problems are worse than my mothers, so she thought it was better to keep me off the analogs while we worked out our hardware issues. It wasn't the easiest month of my life, but I am over a month cigarette free!! It's a wonderful feeling when you get there and I wouldn't have been able to do it without the support of my mother and my husband, and of course finding this wonderful place to get the hardware issues sorted out (got a refund for the original company and bought all new stuff.) Thanks to ECF my mom will be able to get off the analogs too. She can be slightly OCD about her nicotine level, and she's been doing mad research her about the symptoms she was having, so when she starts again, hopefully this week, she'll be able to kick the cigarette habit once and for all.

You're not alone and this place has the wonderful support you'll need to get through.

Best of luck!

I'm real happy to hear Kevin has reached out to you and that you are willing to help. He's received allot of great advice here and it's great that he has you to help him when needed. Just saw this thread and was going to add that he has to make sure that he doesn't run out of juice (happened to me my first week) - again it's great that you've offer to help him.

The other thing that helped me was the support I found on this forum. Would suggest that he spend as much time as he needs here because, as this thread shows, there are tons of folks here willing to offer help even if it's only by posting responses. You reaching out and offering your help (locally) is another example of the great community here. He should take advantage of it - it sure helped me.

I'm on my fourth kind of e cig and think I finally found the one for me (or I hope). I think the kind I like is a 510??? Don't give up hope! I started to feel like I was doing something wrong, because I as reading great reviews and watching my friends success, while I tried but never quite quit. I've been trying to switch to e cigs for almost a year!

I bought one with a button from our local mall, a mini from China and a disposable 510 before I tried a Smoketip. So far, it's been the best deal with the starter kit at 60 bucks including two batteries, the chargers (usb and wall) and six cartridges. I'm hoping the carts last as long as one pack a day did for me. Its a little shorter and has a paper sticker on the end to distinguish the flavor, which feels more like a real cigarette to me.

I originally smoked menthol ultra lights and found that 6 mg carts feel the best for me. It seems to be all about trial and error. :)

Just an update for those of you who are following - Since about 10:30 am on 1-09-11, I've only had one analog. I woke up tonight at 9:00pm with that crackhead shakyness withdrawal, but pushed it aside, and went about my morning (it's night, but it's morning to me). Started brewing coffee, and went to take a shower. Jitters, nervousness, restlessness...and that was all in the first 10 minutes of waking up.

I'm typing this right now sipping my coffee and puffing on my Manual 808 with a 24mg carto. Thanks for all the support everyone, I'll keep coming back to this community.

It's only those who've been through it before who can honestly say they understand what you're going through.

I am there with you. I started at roughly the same time you did, and that was 35 years ago. I am fed up. I can't breath. I can't smell. My sinuses are always inflamed. I could go on.

The last time I tried to quit I used Chiantix or what ever that crap was called. I went psycho. My wife went psycho on it to. We both failed bad, and our kids were so disappointed in us. I WILL succeed this time, even though my addiction is going to be vaping instead.

Just think of the thousands of other compounds in analog smoke that you will avoid. Think of the people around you. Think of yourself. The reason I joined this forum, is because it is 50,000 members strong. That says a lot about a forum on something so obscure as vaping. These folks seem committed.

Get one of those banners that tell the world how long it has been since you quit, and how much money you saved. Post every time you need help. Remember, that if you slip it is OK - don't set a goal you may not be able to achieve. If you cut your analog use in half, you are still better than you were, and will be a tad bit healthier to boot. You are motivated - use it to your own benefit.

That's awesome news! Pretty soon you'll prefer the PV. :)

Just to reiterate what many people have been repeating. The most important point to the transition is forcing yourself to take hits off the ecig when you want a cigarette. The ecig is very capable of subsiding the craving for the real thing if you just use the heck out of it. This is where keeping ahead on refills or cartomizers or whatever it is you are using comes in handy. In my experience thus far, cartomizers are probably far better than atty's for the initial quitting because they wick fluid fast enough to let you take many consecutive hits one after the other with less user interaction. This lets you create that sensation of a "quick cig" or "quick fix" that many of us were accustomed to while smoking. Since you are using an 808 as your starter, you are probably very far ahead of the game here. The 808 is very well respected and can probably keep up with the most intense of smoking habits if properly maintained. You can refill those cartos to save money and even clean and re-use them when they get gunked up.

stick in there, almost a mirror image of my experience. it has been over two months since I've touched a real smoke AND NOW my juice has 0 nic.

i have tried everything to quit (gum/patch/pill/laser) and the e-sig was the only thing that did it for me.
some of it is mental too, i just thought of it as an actual cigarette but without the extra chemicals,
even got 4 of my closest smoking friends on it!
