So I recently turned 18. I've never been a smoker but I like the social atmosphere of it. That's why I got into vaping. I use 0nic though. Mostly I do it because it's fun. But whenever I go buy juice, I always get dirty looks from people. One woman had the audacity to confront me and tell me to stop. So apparently she is in control of my life or something... But it's a free country! I can do what I want, right? I've already helped to convert about 10 smokers into vapers. So if I don't use nicotine, then I shouldn't vape. But I do. Opinions?

I have no real opinion but I have this weird thing where I don't stick my nose into somebody else's business unless they're really doing something dangerous or they specifically ask AND it's somewhat problematic.

Vaping isn't that dangerous and you're not developing a nicotine habit. You'd be able to put down the vape any time you want.

I'd keep an eye out for long-term vaping studies. I don't foresee anything major, but just in case.

I don't smoke either, but I vape. I'm 43. Who cares? :) Ignore them.

I'm a bit older than that. Regrettably, there's no category for middle-aged hooligans.

I mean, we might be able to knock over a 7-11, but forget running from the cops or leaping fences. I'd better be able to take a cab. As far as other hooliganesque adventures, at this age if it's a choice between those or a nice nap, the nap wins.

No one is a hooligan simply because they vape. You are a hooligan if you race your sports car down a public street and blaze up in the cabin of your private jet and blow clouds in everybody's face. Vaping just makes you a vaper. ;) :vapor:

You're over 18, you can do what you want, if that includes hangin' with your peeps and tootin' some 0 nic juice, what's the harm? I would just ask that you be respectful of others when you vape. As far as the woman's comment; you're going to run into that kind of ignorance, best thing you can do is politely ignore these people or give them a calm factual reply to their "for your own good" rhetoric.

Yes, this is indeed a hooligan. Perfect example. ;)

If you aren't doing that, you're good.

I smoked for awhile as a teen, quit when I was 18. Then when I was probably 19 I started smoking hookahs because I liked the atmosphere. I liked going to the hookah shop on the weekends and just chilling with good company and smoking on a nice bowl of shisha. Had a hookah at my house too that I used often. Now I'm 22 and just use the e-cigs.

So if you want to vape, go for it. It's 0 nic anyways, I don't seem the harm. At least you aren't doing the real thing! Just never do the real thing! I wish I hadn't!

Well Reviewguy , you sound exactly like one of my Hoooligan children! My son never smoked, always hated it and has always wished for a non smoking parent. I started vaping a few years ago. He left for college. This year when he came home for Christmas I almost fainted when he walked in with an ITaste. He also says its fun and he likes the social aspect of it. I just wish I had known. I would have told him to get 0 nic. if he was going to vape. The place he got it recommended 3 mg. He has several friends your age and they are vapers. I think we vapers will always get the "look" from non smokers . I pretty much use the same rules for vaping in public as I did when I was a smoker. I've never had anyone confront me yet, but I am not 18. All I know is I think it is a better option than smoking. Where were you when the woman asked you to stop??

I had mixed feelings about it before but I'll say this.. It's your life, body and well being, you can do as you please just as any of us can do so as well. If someone has a problem with it, there is nothing they can do but SUCK it. Your making the choice to vape and no one can tell you otherwise, as long as you don't start up a nicotine habit. If you do, then people will start to have other opinions :p

What is this "social atmosphere" about smoking tobacco you think exists? I never thought that huddling outside together in sub-zero temps and smelling up our clothes was that sociable myself. But I guess one could draw that conclusion just by looking at us idiots.

You had to go their with the Beib's eh? ..

@OP, well, I am only offering my opinion, and perspective because you opened it for discussion. The Free Being I Am feels on the one hand that it is your right, to do as you wish as long as what you do, does not impose upon another .. The experienced Being I Am on the other hand feels that at 18 yrs of age you should be playing frisbee or something for fun

Actually, I like smokers, still do, even though I am an ex-smoker and full-time vaper now. My mother-in-law smokes, tough old broad, I love hanging out with her, going out for a smoke or a vape, who cares, she don't. Yeah, I offered to turn her on. "Oh hell no, I'm not fiddling with that crap, what's next? Electronic beer?" Ain't she great? I will always hang out with smokers. Once a smoker, always a smoker, whether you quit or not.

Unless you are Irish and can trace your history there, or are a member of a youth gang, you are not a Hooligan. Neither is Mr. Beiber.

hoo·li·gan noun \ˈhü-li-gən\
: a usually young man who does noisy and violent things as part of a group or gang
: ruffian, hoodlum

Examples of HOOLIGAN
The windows were broken by a gang of teenage hooligans.
"Shouldn't you hooligans be in school instead of threatening old ladies?"

Origin of HOOLIGAN
perhaps from Patrick Hooligan fl1896 Irish hoodlum in Southwark, London
First Known Use: 1896

There's a reason we all started smoking to begin with, yes? We aren't special, just schmucks who found a healthier way to continue to do what we've done for years. I hold no grudge against anyone who wants to go from never smoking to vaping - just because it's "bad for the 'cause'".

My daughter was 25 years old when she was pregnant with my granddaughter. Lucky for her she has always looked much younger than her actual age and at 25 looked to be about 14 yrs old, and pregnant. You can't even imagine some of the horrible comments that people found it perfectly acceptable to make to her. So bad that I won't repeat them. These comments make a statement about the person uttering them and not the person they are directed toward.
You're an adult. Stranger's opinions are irrelevant to the subject and simply a reflection of the person uttering the comment.
