@Sugar_and_Spice

I just calculated how many total bottles I could eventually mix out of a liter of 100mg nic to get some idea of how long that liter might last. As slow as I am, hard telling how long it would take just to fill 555 30ml bottles with water.....:D!

Heartland vapes sells bottles measured in ounces, but figured I would get at least 4 8oz bottles, fill them with undiluted nic, and store in the freezer. I would hold back enough to get started mixing. I joke with my wife that no matter the size of the freezer, she will get it filled.....and she even admits to that. So storage space is at a premium! :D And at the low price, I will pick up a supply of smaller bottles from 10ml to 60ml, just in case.

Hold on while I find the calculator that was made just for this. be right back.

Vapocolypse Calculator.xls

Might be easier to work with if you open and save it somewhere yourself.
After clickin In the yellow boxes put in your numbers. The answers will show below in the other boxes.Click outside the boxes after you put in the numers

This little chart from Carolina Xtract is super helpful. This of course assumes every single thing you make is vapeable. I have made lots of drain cleaner lol. Lots of people mix zero mg until they hit on something. I find nic such an integral part of the flavor that I always mix test batches with nic.

100mg 1L 24mg 4.167 Liters
100mg 1L 18mg 5.555 L
100mg 1L 16mg 6.250 L
100mg 1L 12mg 8.333 L
100mg 1L 8mg 12.5 L
100mg 1L 6mg 16.665L
100mg 1L 5mg 20.00 L

Cool! Thanks for that! Took me a bit to figure it out, but have it saved in office and calculates out to a bit over 2 years. Kind of hard to be anywhere close since I will vape from 5 or 6 tanks every day and not knowing how many ml that would come out to.

Thanks! That calculated out exactly to the 555.5 30ml bottles I had come up with. And as I responded to Sugars, it all comes down to how many ml's used per day. Not to mention including my current store bought stock that will remain in my current rotation. But better buy some more just to be safe! :)

"Drain Cleaner!" Something tells me I might become proficient at mixing up some batches of that! Yep! Small test batches!

Well, with all the great advice and help here, I took the plunge, dove in head first.....but feel like I did at least check the water depth! :D Order placed with Heartland Vapes including a liter each of 100mg 100% VG nic base, VG, and PG. Also got some gloves, an assortment of bottles and syringes, and added 4 flavorings to get me started. If all goes well, it calculated out to about $0.24 per 30ml bottle of mix, so I figure I can even afford to throw out a few bottles of "drain cleaner!" :D A bit nervous, but highly excited to try my hand at DIY! And that should be everything I need to at least get my feet wet (oops! Maybe a poor choice of words there :)). Well, everything but a scale so better get to work on that!

Thanks again for all the help/advice.....and I am sure I will be back for some more!

So what flavors did you order?
:)

Only if you promise not to laugh! :)

I got some caramel, frosted donut, peanut butter, and kettle corn.

Yeah, I read that I should research for recipes I might like and get flavors to make them, but I'm kinda like a kid on Christmas Eve.....I want to "open presents now", so picked some I should like while ordering. But will certainly start with unflavored, something I have never tried yet, and go from there.

When you are ready I can tell you how I make my peanut butter fluff vape. But you won't like me much cause you need a couple more flavors. sorry.
The caramel may take a while to steep, not sure cause I don't use much of that myself. Have never tried the frosted donut or the kettle corn. Maybe someone can chime in on those?
If I may, so you won't be too disappointed if your first try isn't a home run, is to suggest maybe picking up some already mixed flavors from a vendor. What I mean by that is onestopdiyshop.com has blends of flavors that all we need to do is add 10-12% into our nic base and pg/vg. Not only are these great flavors, it also helps you get a feel of how mixing is done plus you get a great home made ejuice.
When I started it was hard to mix it all just right every time. So, I started with one fruit flavor thinking I couldn't mess that up too bad. The trick then was which strawberry(or whatever fruit) did I need to buy. I settled on Capella's because to me it tasted more like the real thing. Now there are quite a few flavor companies that have a good strawberry. Taste is subjective.
So I hope I haven't put you off too much. Feel free to ask any questions you have. This forum is full of great members who love to help.

Now the real fun/aggravation begins flavor chasing! Searching for just the right accent. Ugh. I sort of gave up on flavors for a time while I stockpile nic and mods.

You will get lots of flavor advice so I won't boor. Just know that sweetener vanilla and creams are your best friends.

I got 5 or so flavors to start and they were mostly wretched lol. I hope your taste buds treat you more kindly

Since I like the plain old peanut butter juice I have been vaping, your peanut butter fluff sounds just wonderful! :w00t: "A couple more flavors?" Pshaw! I got a feeling I'm gonna end up with far more then a couple more! :D

I have been buying juice from a vendor I noticed was selling their mixed flavorings. That was a big impetus to getting me into DIY. But now that I calculated and compared cost of getting the flavoring versus just buying the juice, I'm not sure the difference is worth the effort. But will certainly check out onestopdiyshop. Thx

Thought it best to quote Capt.shay's entire post for exposure to his great instruction thread! And I also took the plunge with my first ever ebay purchase for his recommended scale. I did some searching and just couldn't come up with much of anything that had the ability to turn off the auto shut-off, something I think would be a must for me! Thanks, @Capt.shay!

I don't think setting up a pp account it is a requirement to purchase on ebay. It is preferred of course, but you can still use your cc on ebay. They just have pp process the transaction so they still don't see the numbers.

In case others might be wondering, I am comfortable in confirming what Sugar posted.

Now I am off to check out recipes and flavorings purchases! Are we having fun yet? :w00t:

The Happy Camper Report!

All my stuff arrived today! :w00t: Checked everything out and all looks good with one small exception. I didn't buy enough! Seriously! Looking at it now sitting all out, it just looks so, so, so, so minimal. Carnack sees more purchase in my not too distant future! :D

But let's get serious for a moment. My purchase included 18 glass bottles of various sizes, some with phenolic caps and some with dripper caps, and a couple Yorker spout plastic bottles. I read several methods of "cleaning" them and went with shaking them with triple filtered drinking water (Aquasana filter system). Would that be sufficient?

And something came to mind that I haven't seen any comments on before. My shipment spent 2 days "on the road" to get here while temperatures were hitting at around 100°. Matter of fact, my personal weather station showed a heat index today of 122°. Obviously, we can't change the weather, but might it be advisable to have nic, PG, VG, and/or flavorings shipped when not in a heat wave? Or am I just over thinking it?

I think bottles are cleaned before packaging them so rinsing should be ok.

I too have thought about the heat. But since we are on such a short time table with the deeming and all, I choose not to wait. I have ordered Nic, which will be here tomorrow via the brown truck, and have had several packages with flavoring also. Some of those packages felt a little warm to me, but they should be ok. I personally think that flavors also have steep time to reach their true potential. I let mine cool to room temp and put some of them in glass bottles and all was well. Need more glass bottles tho. LOL

@Sugar_and_Spice

Yeah, not even considering waiting until winter, but might at lease check the forecast when placing an order.

My 4 TFA flavors all came in plastic bottles, so assume that is OK I for a while. No idea how long the flavoring juice will last or how much will go into a 30ml mix. Guess it's all part of the trial and error for me at this point.

I'm sure I will want to get some other flavorings soon, so will have to add more bottles to that order. Being a home theater nut, my wife always comments about "more cable". Got a feeling that is about to change to "more bottles!" :D

There are loads of juice recipes to be found......there are database full of them, threads here at ecf and random ones can be found almost everywhere.
If you are not sure then always ask.
Usual rule of thumb is to start low pcts when adding(if doing a single flavor) and work up from there. You can always add, but you can't subtract the flavor back out. lol
Here is the tfa thread here in DIY
The Flavor Apprentice Flavoring Thread

It is long so probably don't want to read it all, so you can ask questions here also. Many people use TFA flavoring, me included.
Make sure you are using a good calculator that was made to do ejuice recipes.

It's probably about time to let this thread fade into the night. I got my nic supply broke down into 3 250ml and 1 125ml bottles, labeled, sealed in foodsaver packaging, and in the freezer. That left me with a bottle with about 110ml to work with, so I got started. Mixed up a 10ml unflavored and 10ml Frosted Donut. I've never tried unflavored before, but must say it vaped quite nicely! Probably gonna have to mix up a bigger batch! What I have tried so far of the Frosted Donut seems a bit weak mixed at 3%, so will have to play with that a bit.

Still have 3 more flavors to try out and will have to pick up a few more, but soon hope to get up to speed so I can try @Sugar_and_Spice's Peanut Butter Fluff (Or whatever the name is).

Thanks to everybody who contributed to getting me started on, what appears to be, the right path!

I don't like e.g. 50/50 unflavored very much personally, but love 95/5 VG/DW ;) Been vaping it for a years time by now or more and it doesn't get old(20ml/day), just nicely neutral and slightly sweet which also always goes great with whatever food or drink consumed. Not having to think about flavors or recipes and crazy easy/fast mixing is another plus. Cost is a second one. Lastly, according to Kurt, the flavoring is the only real uncertainty heath-wise with vaping, and i'm not only talking diacetyl or the other well-know "dangers" as we cant really predict the real respiratory dangers until further time has passed(from nothing or slight irritation to bigger degenerative issues - VG/PG has decades worth of inhalation testing under it's belt without issues found, but the inhalation of food-flavoring compounds hasen't been extensively tested yet...)

There, enough of my sales-talk for now ;)

I probably should not call it my peanut butter fluff as I gleaned it from the many recipes I have found over the course of mixing. I took a little from here and a little from there, and tested a bit of what I liked and what would work for me. ymmv.
Getting ready to make up another batch within the next couple of weeks or so. Right now my house is filled with all kinds of boxes for the impending deeming garbage. Need to sort and put away first. lol
