Am I doing this wrong?

Hi, I'm new here. I got my first ecig the other day, it's an eGo from tasty vapor. I also ordered a bottle of tin box mint, 24, 10% VG. It seems to work fine and everything, but it hurts my lungs and throat when I hit it. It feels nothing like smoking a cigarette, it makes me cough and choke and feels like I'm inhaling chemicals. Is this probably a bad reaction to PG?

You very likely could be sensitive to PG. Only way to find out is to try another liquid. Also if you're very new at this, and were a somewhat heavy smoker it could just be caused by you're throat still being somewhat raw and irritated.

Did you blow the primer/shipping fluid off the atomizer before you used? If you don't blow that stuff out of there, it tastes pretty harsh and horrible.

I'm not sure...I had the same reaction to the Dekang samples and pre-filled carts that came with my eGo, too. I immediately bought all-VG juice and that seemed to help.

For now, you might try taking smaller hits (into your mouth first, then the lungs--and easy does it) and drinking lots of water.

I also want to point out, if your atomizer is dry you can get a hot burning feel in your throat and little vapor. I noticed that when I was using prefilled carts. Was terrible to me. Whenever I use whatever flavor I am choosing, I dry burn off the excess bit left on the atty then do a good 2 drops of the new flavor on the atty, then fill the cart. After that take about 3-4 puffs to get the burning taste off, and then you should be good.

Whenever I get a burning feel, it tells my I am running dry

Soak your atty's in viniger and them rinse them out in hot water. Let them dry overnight.

When you vape, take slow hits.

Try a juice with higher VG. Maybe 50%PG:50%VG or 30%PG:70%VG

I actually had the same issue when I started. It was the juice and a bad atty. Replaced atty let it dry burn off the primer then used a 50% pg 50% vg juice and it was fine. The bad atty was like a burning chemical taste in my mouth. The 100% pg made me cough and made my chest hurt. Sort of like a tight feeling in my chest. All keep in mind that un like the toxic smoke that drys ur lungs the vape is moisterizing. That will cause u to cough as well. When u smoke ur lungs have to compensate by producing more fluide to keep ur lungs moiste. So they r use to creating this extra fluid. Once u get the juice right u will still cough until ur lungs realize they don't have to over produce moister . Just don't give up trying.

Do you draw directly into your lungs?

I did that when I smoked analogues and had the same experience when I tried e-cigs for the first time. It choked me out!

I now draw into my mouth first, hold it for a second and then pull the vapor into my lungs and it's perfect.

Nope. I draw directly into my lungs. Again 50/50. You don't get much of a throat hit though but works great for me.

Yep. I'm pretty sure it was them. I sometimes get all those 70s disco bands mixed up. Except for Wild Cherry - 'Play that funky music, white boy'. I always remember them. LOL.

I've actually found I have a heavy lung feeling as a reaction to VG any amount of VG in a liquid makes my lungs feel like their on fire again. this doesn't happen for me with PG pure juice tho.

Thanks for all your replies. I'm pretty sure it's not the atty, I cleaned it before I used it and it doesn't taste bad or anything. Drawing it into my mouth for a second first helps a bit, but still makes me choke. It seems to be either the PG or maybe the mint flavor that's not working for me, so I'm going to order some 100% VG juice and see if that helps. Can anyone recommend any good ones?

Just a thought, but maybe get something a little "milder" than mint....I love the coffee flavors....cappuccino or cafe mocha.....

or something like French Vanilla or Banana.....something with a little less TH.

I think it might be the mint. I mixed some juice last night with mint and it tasted a bit odd - harsh and slightly metallic is the only description I can think of. I diluted it a bit more and it was fine.

The first few days i vaped i coughed quite a bit. I was trying to 'smoke' them like an analog.
I now draw some in my mouth slowly then inhale....problem sorted
